I've decided it's time to review it. I'm something of a (physical) sunscreen connoisseur. I've been looking for the best zinc oxide based sunscreen for a couple of years now and I have to say my favorite is Burnout. I've already repurchased it and my sister loves it as well- for the first time she's willing to wear sunscreen every day. She says that it "heals" her skin. (It did- her skin got better!)
It was 18.6% zinc oxide and the other ingredients are good too. There is no white cast, there is no flaking, it's easy to spread on dry skin, it does not feel heavy. It's reasonably priced- it's 18$ for 3.4 oz. The packaging is perfect- it's an easy to squeeze tube.
They offer 3 formulas- ocean tested, kid, and clean and clear. That's in order from more moisturizing to less. My favorite is the kid version.
Active Ingredients: Zinc Oxide 18.6%
Other Ingredients: Aqua (Deionized Water), Capric/Capryllic Triglycerides, Vegetable Glycerin, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Sorbitol, Imperata Cylindrical (Root) Extract, Caprylyl Glycol, Sorbitan Stearate, Arabidopsis Extract, Plantago Lanceolata (Plantain) Leaf Extract, Carica Papaya (Papaya) Fruit Extract, Plankton Extract, Xanthan Gum, Ascorbyl Palmitate (Vitamin C). |

| The Ocean Tested is the most moisturizing and I think that would be the most suitable one for dry skin. However, the Kid's version is also moisturizing. It depends on how dry your skin is. I think the Ocean Tested might get a tad oily in the current hot summer weather. So it would be sensible to have a back up in case of changing weather or skin condition. My skin can vary from day to day. |

| I have tried NIA24 sunscreen as part of their trial pack. I don't find it to be moisturising. And for a sunscreen, it's rather expensive. |

I agree - I find the NIA24 sunscreen to be rather drying on my skin. I won't repurchase it.
The trial pack is a good way to sample 4 of their products for ~$35 (cleanser, scrub, sunscreen, and skin strengthening complex). They sell it at drugstore.com

I haven't tried Nia24 sunscreen but I don't even consider it an option. It has only 3.6% zinc oxide compared to Burnout's 18.6%. No contest! In addition to that, it's more three times expensive (per ounce) than burnout. |
Plus it leaves a ghosty look on my skin (even though I'm fair!) and it feels VERY slimy on my tzone. I'll be using mine up on my arms and chest. |

I have dry skin, except for my tzone...the Kids version is really the best of both worlds, and worked for both the dry and oily parts of my face. I am really liking it! |

I use a "powder" mineral MMU and I do use a serum and moisturizer first, I am just sure to be light handed with application. I find the Orb applies like silk and almost acts like a primer prior to MMU application. |

The guy at wholefoods was trying to help me locate it, but i forgot to name of the SS. I told him it must have the word sun in it. LOL But if I had seen it, I'd have recognized it. I read through the labels several times, and I didn't see Burnout on the shelf for sure, but he said I could call the store and ask them to carry it. If other wholefoods has it, they could get it at this one, so I think i'll try that. It can't hurt. |

What state are you in? I called 2 different whole foods and none of them heard of burnout ss! |
There is an earlier post that it's only in California Whole Foods right now.
My guess is they are test marketing? I wonder if we ask out local WF if they might be able to get it in stock for us? |

The Kids version contains: Plantago Lanceolata (Plantain) Leaf Extract, Carica Papaya (Papaya) Fruit Extract, Plankton Extract.
I am not sure if the other formulas contain these ingredients or not, but one of these could be a culprit for those of us who have had issues with it? |

I think it is the papaya extract that caused the reaction for me. Like DarkMoon I am also not sure why it is in a kids' sunscreen. I really bought into the *kids* label, although I know I should have looked more carefully.
I tested the Kids on (my) normal skin. I think the high % of zinc helped buffer somewhat, so the reaction wasn't as immediate/pronounced. I just itched like mad. (It is NOT the same kind of itch that I get with zinc sunscreens that are too drying.) I suppose it would have burned if I had tested it on flared-up skin.
Hope that helps some for those trying to figure things out! |

Just wanted to f/u since this thread popped up again.
I purchased Burnout last summer. Used it every time we went to the lake. At least 1-2 days a week out on the water for 4-6 hours. And ZERO burning, and very little color. This product WILL stay in my beach bag for sure! |

I want to chime in with a mini-review. My husband and I have been using Burnout sunscreen for the past couple of weeks (based on the wonderful reviews on EDS--thanks all!) and it is very good. It sinks in well without leaving a white cast and it protects well against the sun. We would definitely buy it again. Only problem is that it's not cheap. I'd rate it a 4.7 out of 5 stars.

I have become a bit of a sunscreen junkie the last couple years and Burnout CC is one of the ones a like a lot because it doesn't feel too heavy on my skin and I don't tan when I'm out in the sun for long periods of time.
Here are some of the other sunscreens I've tired and what I thought of them.
Best feel on skin
1.Zo Oclipse sunscreen & primer- but at $65 a
ounce it is highway robbery.
2. Clarins day screen high protection- has only
TD no Zinc but really nice feel on skin
3.Devita- I like the feel but can only use on
days I won't be in the sun long. I still tan
very easily with this on.
4.Pratima- I like the feel but since I don't wear
makeup it seems like to get the correct dosage
(amount) I have too much color/tint on my face
but this might just be because I'm not used to
wearing foundation. I don't really like the
smell either but it has grow on me.
5.PCA skin weightless protection SPF 45- I love
the feel of this but it does have 9% zinc &
7.5% octinoxate. So that will be a knockout
for some people. Plus I did tan with this also
so not good for all day sun.
Ok choices
1. Nia 24- I like that it has niacin in it and it
feels ok on my face.
2.Blue lizard- ok but leaves my face shiny.
3.Goddess garden face or body SPF 30-I didn't see
much difference between the two they are both
some of my favorites for the body but not for
the face. They do have a Baby SPF 30 with 20%
zinc but the texture of it on the face is bad.
These were greasy and I couldn't even keep them for use on my body
1.Vanicream SPF60
2.Eco logical SPF30- wouldn't even come out of
the bottle and if it did it was like pure oil.
May have just been a bad bottle but don't want
to try it again.
3.Badger
Keep in mind I have oily skin and the last thing I am looking for is a moisturizing SS. |

Hi DM,
I like Burnout for the coverage, but I use the blue top one, and the finish is a bit sticky for me.
I got some Purple Prairie, too, but that one has been relegated to the non-face areas. It works but it is a white mess for me. |
