I did a search and didn't see anything, so I hope this is okay.
I've got a couple of tiny (less than 1mm across) skin tags on my neck that are just annoying. Does anyone know of the best method to get them removed? Do I go to a dermatologist, or can my esthetician do this? Is it painful, and generally, how much do they cost to get removed? |

Tightly tie a piece of thin sewing thread around it and within a few days it will fall off. My physician suggested this and it works. |

If the sewing thread does not work for you, you may want to go to a doctor. I generally go to a derm. They use liquid nitregon (sp) Can't tell you the cost because my insurance pays for it. The pain is minimal. |

I have friends who have done what Penelope states and had success with it.
I had a few very small ones on my side years ago and I just grabbed them between a tweezer and pulled them off. It hurt! I don't recommend this. But I treated the spots with neo for a couple of days, they healed fine and have not returned. |

I have had mine removed by a dermatologist. She snipped them. It was simple, safe, and practically painless. They can be numbed, depending on their size, it's worth it or not. |

The sewing thread sounds like a good cost effective idea.
I had one on my body that had been annoying me for decades and about 2 yrs back I had it lasered off by a derm. Zap and it was gone! |

I had a couple of very small ones on my neck. SuperCop 2X takes longer than threads or a derm but one of the tags fell off after a couple of weeks. I've been too lazy to spot treat the other. |

Rjez, oh, I never thought of that! I use CP's too, but I don't have any supercop2x on hand, just some super CP serum... I wonder if it will work. |

I was plagued by these when I was preggers, all over my neck, it was so horrible! I went to my derm and had them zapped off. I wont lie, it hurt but, it was bearable. My insurance covered it. Ive know people that used a thread too but Im all about instant gratification. |

It might but it may take months. I think SuperCOP 2x is a LOT stronger. |

I don't know if it was coincidence or not but I used to have one on my neck when I was using Rose Hip Oil on my neck twice a day and after a week, it fell off. I have never had one since so can't retest to see if it was the Rose Hip Oil or whether it was getting ready to fall off of its own accord. |

My mum had heaps of skin tags on her neck, she went to GP a few times to get them removed, all the GP used liquid nitrogen, they get frozen then die (turns black) then it just falls off like a scab. I've had 2 flat ones near my eye, and i got an eye surgent to cut it off then he used laser to zap the area, it healed without scars, that costed me around AU$250. |

Unfortunately, I don't think my extended medical would cover removal of skin tags since it's such a crappy plan! lol. I'll look into it more closely though. I have about 2 more prominent ones on my neck and about 3-4 smaller ones that are hard to see.
I'll look into the Super Cop 2x for now, if it doesn't work, I'll look into asking a derm to remove them.
Thanks for all the replies everyone! I appreciate the input! |

Years ago I snipped one off with nail scissors but found it left a permanent red spot. Go to the doctor and have it burnt off with liquid nitrogen or tied off with surgical thread. I have had both of these methods and I much prefer the surgical thread. The liquid nitrogen didn't hurt much, but unfortunately in my case it didn't make the damned things fall off. Instead they got swollen and quite sore, and as they were just under my bust and rubbing against my bra this was rather painful. I had to go back and have them tied off, which worked very well. Later on I developed two on my neck which I had tied off. It took four days for them to fall off, no pain, no mark left behind. |

There is a lot of imformation on the Skin Biology about skin tags. They mentioned using glyolic acid. I had a couple of tags on the inside of my arm joint and tried this. No problems it turned a litle red and fell off in a short while.
While shopping in a Merle Norman the subject came up and it was mentioned that one of the girls there actually puts hot wax on hers and pulls them off, she says they bleed but it didn't seem to bother her. A little extreme for me, I'm afraid the sight of blood makes me squirm! My son had he wisdom teeth extracted and just talking with the nurse about changing the gauze pads drained the color from my face.
What's on the inside should stay on the inside! |

I have a skin tag under my left eye. It's not that small and I'm quite conscious of it. Do you think that the DIY thread technique would work and would it be painful? I've had it forever and it's one of those things I'd love to get rid of but have never got around to.

Tess, I've never tried the tying off thing- although it makes sense--it cut's off the blood supply, which is what keeps any tissue alive. I have used liquid nitrogen (in home wart remover) to remove an flat mole on my chest- it worked great, but took a couple weeks to totally heal. I clipped off a skin tag on my upper arm with nail clippers (cleansed with alcohol first). It took me a few minutes to get the guts, but it really didn't hurt. However, having said that--close to your eye------please have a Doctor take care of that tag. You don't want a scar there, or an infection, and if, God forbid, it's something more serious, you want to take care of it. I'm not trying to be an alarmist; well maybe a little. But, when it comes to our faces- let's be careful! |

Thanks for the reply kyplantjunkie. I know I should see my GP about this one as it's so close to my eye - one slip with the nail clippers and the tag could be the least of my problems!

I have some skin tags on the front of my neck that I'd like to get rid of. Also a mole on the inside of my leg that irritates me. I've seen some ointment/ oils being sold online to remove skin tags and moles. Some names are Dermatend, Pristine Herbal Touch Wart & Mole Vanish, Dermasil, Bloodroot Salve, etc. I'm going away for a week or so but may order one when I get back. Any experience with these type of products? |

I have heard that Bloodroot Salve is quite effective for the removal of skin tags and moles. I need to have two moles biopsied and intend to use Black Salve to remove them should the results comes back as cancerous. The success rate using Black Salve is something like 97% and it eliminates the need to under-go skin grafts, etc. BTW - Black Salve is not to be confused with Bloodroot Salve - both will remove moles, however, one detects cancer and the other does not. This is the company I will likely use to buy both products from once I'm ready to order - http://bestonearthproducts.com/products1.htm - HTH's. |

This is interesting, ScotsLass! Any information on how the Black Salve detects the cancer? I know you are having them tested (wisely) but was just curious, if you'd heard anything about the details. I'm going to save that website so thanks! |
