do I need to wait several mins after each step? i mean between step 3, 4, and sunscreen. |
I find that waiting (for up to 20 mins) before I put on Clear (and then Tret or Exf.) makes a huge difference in how much I peel.
I'm not sure why but it seems like my skin starts to produce some moisture itself then.. |

Kerryshka, it really all depends on your skin, and everyone is so individual that you just can't say. Most people do adjust and if the peeling doesn't stop all the way, it should at least slow way down after 2 months. Unfortunately, there are some who peel all the way through. |

i have the same feeling like you, i am at my 7 week mark now,
but i do not really mind the peeling, what bothers me even more is the dryness and the redness
i guess for the redness, from what i learned, it will mostly last the whole time.
but, for the dryness!!!can anybody tell me will i ever get to a place where i dont feel dry and when i laugh I will not look like an old old lady with tons of dry lines?????
when will i be able to arrive the point that my skin does not need moisture and will not feel dry?????
hellllllppppppp!!!! |

I did peel most of the way through, but it did become manageable. I'm on maintenance now and will still peel sometimes on my chin and around my mouth area. It's like your skin definitely has a mind of its own! |

Hellenzqq,
I have oily skin to begin with and even in the beginning of using Nuderm, I don't think my skin ever got as dry as so many others have. Also, I've decided that it makes a difference as to what time of year it is and what type of climate you live in as to how your skin reacts.
For instance, I was doing Obagi full-force during the summer months when it's hot and humid (which makes my skin even oilier) as opposed to the colder, drier winter months.
That's what's so interesting about Obagi; everyone reacts so differently to it!
ETA: Sorry, I just realized my post isn't very helpful in regards to your situation! Did you purchase the Nudem for dry skin?
ETA: Sorry |

I think you are still pretty early on, and your skin "should" adjust to where you stop feeling so dry, but it really depends on your skin and how you tolerate the retin a. I also agree with kims, it is much easier to use the system in the summer months when it is nice and warm as opposed to the winter months that can be so drying. Not sure what part of the world you live in though! |

Kims comment about starting obagi during the summer months is really interesting and so true. I'm on my 9th week and it's summer where I live, so the weather is hot and humid. My skin isn't going through the terrible dryness. Initially in the the first few weeks it was a bit red but it never felt dry. However, when I travelled oversea recently to a winter climate, my skin immediately became dry, tight, and flaky. It felt like such a set back. Once back to the warmer climate, my skin adjusted again where it feels comfortable. My skin is constantly changing week to week, however I'm seeing such an improvement in my skin tone and clarity, that I can say obagi does work. I hope you get to a place where your skin doesn't feel so dry and adjust to the retin A, good luck, because the result I'm seeing so far are amazing. |

I agree with Rileygirl and Kims, the dryness is worst in the winter and here in Florida we have had colder than normal temps so I"ve had some flakes around the mouth and chin, not bad,and feel alittle dryer than normal.I'm going to do another round but am going to wait until the spring, its just easier on this old gal.I'm also doing the AALS since Dec 26,and want to get in 2 months before I do my nuderm.I'm seeing alot of improvement and don't want to go backwards. |

well...i guess i really pick a bad season to begin the obagi.
I live in the north of canada, and now it is like -20 degree everyday. it is sooo dry inside the house dur to the heat.....
i do not think it is the retin-a, because before obagi, i have already been using retin-a 0.1% for more than 2 years, and I was not peeling or red any more long time ago.and I also use aha during the day before too.
so it is definitely the obagi....
maybe i should stop using it now and begin again in the summer?? |

I'm new to this board, and I'm a Medical Esthetician working for a Dermatologist and have been working with Obagi for years. I haven't read all the posts here (since they date back to '06!) but it seems that many posters are purchasing this online and attempting to use it themselves without any real directions or knowledge of how the system works.
This is meant to be medically prescribed by a physician (4% Hydroquinone and Tretinoin are prescriptions). It is critical that you are under either a Dr.'s care when using this or having a Medical Esthetician who works for a Dr. guiding you through your treatment.
If nothing else, I hope to at least be able to give some advice here about Obagi if anyone is interested. |

hellenzqq, I answered you on another thread about your dryness. Have you tried the Obagi Action? You could try that and see if that helps. |

Hi Hellen,
I would hate for you to have to start the Obagi routine all over again. But, you sure are living in extremely cold temperatures! Brrrr...
Anyway, I also know how drying it can be indoors due to heating. Maybe a humidifier could help? Just a thought. |

thanks rileygirl and kims, you two gave me so much help in the past two weeks.
maybe i will go order obagi action and see if it can help. I did use a humidifier in the house, but seems still not enough....maybe I should buy like 10 humidifiers and put them everywhere, haha, ,creat my own rainforest, haha |

Hellenzqq, I live in the prairies and my face has been really really dry and I'm only going on my 3rd week. I've always had oily skin so this is new to me.
Skinsmything, do you think the obagi nuderm would work in the abdominal area too? After having 2 kids, my tummy has turned darker and hasn't gone back to pre baby color and my youngest is almost 4 yrs old now.
TIA! |

Hi Helen,
I know this whole Obagi thing is bothering you quite a bit. During the time I was doing the full regime, we took a couple of vacations and I chose to leave the Nuderm at home. I just didn't want to deal with being red and peely while on vacation! I think I used the Clear but that was it. Instead, I used some other products with my mmu as usual.
My point in all of this is, if you feel like you need to take a break from Obagi -- then just go ahead and do it. Or, cut your usage down to only 2-3 times per week.
Yes, you might need to continue a little longer than 18 weeks, but that's ok. You'll get there! |

I thought I'd post an update (and a question!).
I've been using Obagi for a little longer than a week. I'm still using 0.025% Tretinoin and plan to switch soon to 0.05%.
I haven't had any peeling really EXCEPT for my nasolabial folds and on the sides of my chin. The sides of my chin got pretty bad so I stopped using the exfoderm and the blender/tretinoin for... 4 days? Also I took a 24 hour break one day to give my poor face a rest (I went skiing one day and then my face felt like it was going to explode! Even though I wore ski mask, goggles, etc. the cold wind really affected my skin!).
Now I'm back on the horse and doing well so far.
My question is... has anyone used Renova instead of Retin-A?
All the best,
Jose |

Hellenzqq, I was just reading on the skincare-md website and they have an alternative to tretinoin which is the Retrinal cream, which would give lesser side effects than the tretinoin. It sounds good for us who have had some major redness, dryness and peeling from the tretinoin. I was wondering though if anyone has used it who can give us any feedback? Thanks. |

Hellenzqq, when I asked about the efficacy, she told me that it is the difference between a prescription and a non prescription tretinoin, so therefore it is milder. But for people with a lot of problems with the tretinoin, then the retrinal is a good alternative. |
