There isn't much to be done to fix hereditary dark circles, but I have noticed being tan helps me. I have ivory to fair skin normally which makes the circles under my eyes really dark, but when ever I use tanner I notice the darkness of them is less noticeable from before. still on the search for the best organic tanner, I hate being fake but I hate my dark circles more.

While its true after reading all the pages on this post it does seem there is no "cure" for dark circles, seems everyones still trying creams and cover up make ups.

For a guy I guess this is more tricky but not impossible !

I think you have a good point alot, my doctor a long time ago said asian/indian people need to get more sun and only then my excema and skin would get the natural tone/complexion as well as the moisturizer that is needed.

I live in england so it rains and never is sunny not even in the july its still raining outside lol

I feel if I had a darker sun tan my complexion would match my dark circles Smile

I have a feeling Dark circles looks worser on Asian/Black people also, and perhaps the lack of sun getting on the skin is important.

Please continue with the Hylexin. I promise you it works. My daughter brought it for me from the US in 2009 and in 6 months I noticed a visible difference. I too had dark circles that are hereditary. Having an Indian background, this is pretty normal. But the Hylexin has proved that it CAN BE IMPROVED.

I don't use a concealer any more. I will be using Hylexin forever. Hail Hylexin!

Hes a consultant eye surgeon & specialises in filler around the eyes, he can even do upper eyelids! He teaches other doctors, & did mine which *sob* has worn off (& Im just about to go on hols so cant get in to see him for a while). I seriously recommend fillers for dark circles/hollow eyes it took 10 years off me, & a real 10 years not a 'face cream' 10 years (seen only in a close up mirror). Hes Asian so understands that market too.
One of the best things Ive EVER done..& hes so gentle it barely hurt. I bruised though! Although he told me that if I get it topped up when Ive got some filler left it wont. Next time I will NOT be allowing it to run out.

Maybe you need more sleep and maybe take more of natural omega oils??? Although, there is no such cure for dark circles, you can diminish the problem. There are a lot of special creams at EDS to buy to minimize the dark circles. Also, before you go out, to make sure that this is not showing too much, put some good concealer on the dark circles to improve it... Don't forget your diet which is an important factor for good skin.
Good luck! Smile

I have been dealing with dark circles under my eyes since I was 5. Sometimes they are worse than other times. Right now they are really bad. I do not have seasonal nasal congestion or anything like that. The skin in that area (under my eyes) is just very thin. I do not really have a problem with bags.

I feel like I have tried EVERYTHING topically... Vitamin K (Jason brand), peptides (multiple brands, Teamine (terrible product) and most recently a Stem Cell product (Reluma) that included special dk circle reducing ingredients. Nothing seems to be working, and I am starting to get depressed about the whole thing. People won't stop making comments to me: friends, random people, even my parents...."Wow, you look tired". The darn things are beginning to look like dark trenches.

I am just now starting some facial exercises (using Carolyns program) and I am hopeful that maybe that will do something, but I dont know... Has anyone out there had any success with their dark circles --- what worked? diet changes? accupressure? a certain topical treatment? facial exercise?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

At least women can put makeup on it and mask it.

Myself, as a man with the problem of deep under eye circles I think it's hopeless in eradicating. Especially as fillers cost so much Sad

Just a matter of having to accept myself looking constantly ill from now on...

I have dark under-eye circles. I find they are not as dark when I get enough sleep. Dr. Hauschka eye solace is especially good to use to feel refreshed if my eyes feel tired. I keep the ampules of solution in the fridge so when I wet the cotton pad with it, it is nice & cold. It is more expensive, but works better than cold tea bags. I pat a little of the Dr. Hauschka regenerating eye cream on during the day.

I have the same problem, since I was a kid. The eye area/eyelid AND sides of my nose/eye are purple blue. But no one else in my family has it! I have to apply tons of concealor, really caked on or fake n bake. Very depressing.

Hi! I've been through the same exact thing.. still going through it! I think once you get these dark circles, they probably do not go away. The people who get the type of dark circles that don't come from a lack of sleep or stress, are the ones that probably get it from sun damage and very thin skin under your eyes. I got my dark circles starting when i was probably six years old. I never wore sunglasses growing up to protect my eyes from the sun, and I noticed a lot of people who often wear sunglasses to protect their eyes from the sun, don't have dark circles. So I guess that's the trick. If you dont wear sunglasses, you should start wearing them. You may not see results right away but once I started doing that, my dark circles were fading.. also! If it isn't the sun, even if it is.. try using a orange/peachy colored concealer, or a green one, you can find these at any make up store or simply walmart, I got my green concealer at walmart and it lightens the skin under your eyes dramatically, I recommend buying a few different shades of concealers before sticking to one, because thats the thing with concealers, you never know which one is the best for your skin color unless you try a ton of them. If you reallyy want these dark circles to fade away, try the sunglasses tip AND the concealer tip. What also can help is not get a cream/concealer that is too much lighter than your skin and your face makeup/powder , because it makes it obvious that you have dark circles instead of hiding them and making them look normal.. Smile good luck!

Nia 24 skin strengthening complex helps to strengthen and thicken skin. I don't think the difference is astronomical for very dark circles, but it has helped me.

I just finished reading through all of the posts in this thread..
I have very fair skin and have had dark circles since elementary school. Never have puffiness or bags, just the bluish/purple circles under my eyes all the time. Doesn't seem to matter how much sleep I get, how much stress I'm under, or what I eat...they're always there!!
The second part of this scenario that is so frustrating is that I used to purchase a product that worked really well, although it only treated them temporarily (for about 24 hours) it helped a great deal. Then the product was discontinued!! Here's the link from Amazon
http://www.amazon.com/Andrea-EyeQs-Eye-Renewal-Patch/dp/B000086JZZ?SubscriptionId=0GP2KDYJTN54P34QJTG2&tag=good041-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B000086JZZ

Hope that works, I'm just getting started with the posting links.. May have to cut and paste? I'll do some research for next time.
The product was called Andrea's Eye Q's 2 in 1 Renewal Eye Patch.
Nothing, nothing that I have tried since has helped. I have tried to look for any products that had similar ingredients but no luck.
I have not tried copper peptides, that may be next.

At least you have something which DID work for you, however temporary! You've got a leg up on a lot of poor people here.

Here's the ingredients list, in case someone knowledgeable about ingredients can help isolate what had worked:

Ingredients
Polyvinyl Alcohol|Propylene Glycol|Oleamidopropyl PG-Dimonium Chloride|L-Ascorbic Acid (vitamin C)|Citric Acid|Linoleamidopropyl PG-Dimonium Chloride Phosphate|Kojic Acid|Phytonadione (vitamin K)|Honey|Sodium PCA|Extracts of Cranesbill|Comfrey|Elder Flower|Calendula|Tormentil|Plantain|Horsetail|Burdock|Cucumber|Tocopheryl Acetate (vitamin E)|Retinyl Palmitate (vitamin A)|FD&C Yellow No. 5|FD&C Blue No. 2

Directions
Use twice a week for the first week, then once a week thereafter.
Remove backing. Wet patch. Apply to eye area. Leave on for 30 minutes. For best results, use Undereye Circle Complex and/or Daily Intensive Eye Cream daily in between treatments.

==========

Have you tried other patches that ask you to apply for 30 min and then remove when they're dry?

What other methods & products have you tried? Its possible that the amount of whatever particular ingredient was more in this product than the others. You can tell how much is in the product by the order they list them (more to less).

Someone told me once that it could have been the coloring in the patch. When you put it on, the patch itself was yellow on the part you put directly under your eye and then blue on the part that went over the outer corner of your eye. I still have no idea exactly why it was effective but it's still the only thing that ever made a difference for me. Wondering if it was some kind of dye used in the patch since nothing else is effective. Scary thought.

Other things I have tried were -
Teamine
PTR Power K eye rescue
Hylexin
Right now using StriVectin-SD eye cream. Tube is almost gone and haven't noticed any real change.

I know there's been so many more over the years, some of them escape me right now.

One other trick I have found recently..
Because I'm so pale, if I use self-tanner under my eyes this masks the blue a little. Wonder if anyone else has ever done that?

Has anyone here tried taking fermented cod liver oil? An online friend at another board I frequent said it "cured" her dark circles. But it has to be the fermented kind, like what Green Pasture sells (greenpasture.org).

Just offering that info in case it can help someone!

Dark circles under your eyes from thin skin are hard to get rid of, and annoying because everyone seems to enjoy pointing out that you need more sleep!

It's often genetic to have thin skin in this area, so the veins underneath your eyes are more obvious. The skin is about 10 times thinner... so you can see why a lot of people have problems with it.

Dark circles are different to puffiness, which is usually from too much salt and dehydration.

They have a lot to do with a really sluggish complexion, which causes a build up of toxins which in turn causes the tissue to darken and become stagnated. This can also be genetic, as you often see people with the same eye condition as their parents.

You might want to approach it from a few different angles as you mentioned.

- Building up the skin's strength to keep the area healthy
- Massaging to increase circulation and release toxins
- Vitamins A and C will also help in this area to detox skin and rebuild collagen.

Eventually as the skin becomes healthier it will be less transparent.

You could try using a galvanic facial treatment, which uses ultrasound currents to touch the deeper layers of tissue. This will stimulate the circulation, increase nourishment and strengthen the skin. Similar effects to a facial massage, but with added benefits.

Skin is built up from the dermis, so just applying topical creams and lotions doesn't reach this far or have any effect on collagen or elastin.

Look up the Fyola Lite Massager, this will tell you more about ultrasound and you can use it at home frequently - much better than paying a lot of money for regular spa treatments.

Also, you could talk with your doctor about having your cholesterol levels checked, as this can darken the under eye area. A lot of people aren't aware of this. Skin really does show what is going on inside.

Seeing a naturopath practitioner could also help you determine if there is any underlying issue causing them to become worse.

If you take the approach of building up the skin from the outside, and taking care of your health from the inside... You will get good results.

Hope this helps!

Hi! Pinot~ how long did it take your friend to cure her under eyes with cod liver oil? Coincidently I have been taking that the last month or so but haven't seen an improvement, but I do have a young baby.

Try this:

Dark Circles Massage

While hereditary dark circles are difficult to correct, very pronounced dark circles will fade with the help of particular oils and lymph massage. This massage also relaxes tired eyes.

1 teaspoon Tamanu Oil
3 teaspoons Sweet Almond Oil
2-4 drops Cedarwood Oil

Instructions

Mix the ingredients together in a small, clean bottle.
Apply a few drops of the mixture on your fingertips. Start massaging, from the inner corner of the eye, moving upward towards the temples and around the eye across the bone underneath and up again in a circular motion. Repeat this movement 4-5 times morning and evening.

This massage activates the microcirculation and drains the excess edema responsible for dark circles of fatigue. The lymphatic drainage also has a lifting effect.

Hi, this isn't really a remedy or cure but it sure does work on covering them!

Its by Kat Von D & its called "tattoo eraser" but ulta touts it as "dark circle eraser"

It comes in a pencil like an eyeliner & is soft & pink, you just go over your dark discolored area under your eye then use a sponge to blend it and within 2 min something happens where it adjusts according to your skin tone & blends right in (cuz it goes on pink but changes after a couple minutes)

Its the best thing i have found so far that actually works (as far as covering them goes.

I feel your pain. I have dark circle since college. And it has been more ten years, I still suffer from it. I feel eye creams are generally not useful, unless it is used to cover my eye bags. Good eye masks are a lot more useful, but you have to use it almost everyday. Otherwise, the effect fades quickly. Of course, a lot of sleep is also important. I feel sleep is even less affordable than cheap eye masks with reasonable quality.

I've tried everything and still trying. Currently researching estrogen dominance, which yes, can cause dark circles. If I do find anything, will post about it. I may see a nutritional therapist, I moved and this town has one.

I know this is a very old post, but I just wanted to send a huge THANK YOU.

I am 62 and am not into the tattoo thing most younger people are, so I had never heard of Kat or her makeup line. Holy Cow, I am impressed. I have the hereditary very thin skin/dark circles where I would describe them as almost the orbital holes in my skull visible under the skin. Have tried numerous concealers over the years, all were pretty average.

For the past few months I have been making a serious effort to attack this problem (as well as just the general loss of collagen/elastin and gravitational effects) from the inside and outside. Progress has been good, but when you're trying to fix things on a cellular level, it takes time.

After reading all the posts in this thread and doing some research on different products mentioned, I decided to visit Sephora and see what the Kat Von D line was really like (I've been the Bare Minerals route as well as some common others). I ended up purchasing 4 of her products (primer, concealer, compact foundation, finish spray), but had to order the pink tattoo eraser pencil online since it wasn't carried in the stores.

I absolutely love the coverage and concealing results using the pink pencil under her concealer and compact foundation. I never knew this product line existed, but will be a dedicated user from now on. Thank you so much for this great tip/info, and I would encourage anyone who hasn't checked out this line of makeup to do so. I have dry skin for the most part and have not had any negative effects using this. Also, have not had issues with settling or caking into lines/wrinkles.

I did feel a little silly asking the sales rep to show me this line since it was obviously geared/created for a much younger client base, but I'm glad I didn't allow the rep to steer me to something more age appropriate. I believe the store does makeovers, etc. for a trial for anyone interested.

I have been using [ spam ] under eye treatment serum every night before bed. I feel like it really moisturizes and reduces my dark circles. It is also helping a little with my crows feet and the little wrinkles that are at the bottom corner of my eye. It goes on smooth and feels great. I would definitely recommend [ spam ] for anyone that has a chronic problem with dark circles or under eye wrinkles.
