I think reading the actual paper that lists the carcinogens would be more helpful than reading vendor's interpretation of it.
http://monographs.iarc.fr/ENG/Publications/techrep42/index.php
Last paragraph says clearly that this particular monograph does not pertain sunscreens. At least that's what I read.
Powder and spray sunscreens would be the exception in this case, but that those are no good is almost common knowledge. Even the ones with zinc in them, just because zinc particulates haven't been listed as carcinogenic or toxic yet doesn't mean they are harmless. I'm pretty sure I could find a boatload of incriminating evidence against zinc oxide, how it damages enteric walls, lung cells, disturbs cytokine balance and so on. Imagine using that as a sunscreen!
However, it's rather difficult to breathe in liquid sunscreen. I'm sure someone would manage, but I'm not concerned that if I'd use titanium dioxide sunscreen I'd grow lung or enteric tumors. Even if I was a tiny rodent. Or a fish.
The Gulston study doesn't seem as alarming to me either. It really was a small amount.

I'm not a huge fan of nano particles in sunscreens, but not because I worry about my internal organs would suffer. To damage those I'd need to inhale or swallow sunscreen, as the data referenced by MVO clearly states. My reason for steering clear of nanos is their lousy UVA protection.
To me, this MVO blog entry seems very biased. It screams, don't buy any other sunscreens, only ours is safe! |

rileygirl, how does MVO sunscreen compare to Devita Sunblock? Which one is more moisturizing and protects better? |

In my own opinion, the Devita is definitely more moisturizing. The MVO one is actually pretty drying to my skin. I only use it on the weekends when I don't have to see anyone. Otherwise, I am usually pretty flaky and dry looking with the MVO on. I think the MVO would be great for oily skin, but my dry skin can't handle it. |

I just received my travel kits from MVO - have tried the Everyday sunscreen for a few days in a row now. It feels much nicer if you have applied the MVO facial oil (or any other facial oil like Decleor, DIY etc.) underneath it. Otherwise it is quite 'dry'/very matte and doesn't leave the 'dewy glow' on the skin. I am partial to a dewy look myself.
I can see how someone with oily skin might not reuqire the facial oil underneath, but mine is normal and I quite like it with the oil underneath. Haven't tried a regular moisturizer under it yet.
I also recieved a sample of the Moisturizing sunscreen, will report again once I have had an opportunity to try it for a few days.
In regard to color, I recieved both the Extra Light and Light. I am very fair with a yellow undertone (porcelain in the Bobbi Brown make-up line or Bisque in Jane Iredale) and I do not wear bronzer or self tanner as I don't like color to my skin (except blush). The Light is too dark for my taste...it would be me with a tan basically! Hopefully that information helps in terms of color determination for those interested in purchasing. |

And what do you wear on other days, riley? Pratima? Is Pratima less or more moisturizing than Devita? |

I think her ss is more drying because its uncoated so it acts more as an astringent, correct me if Im wrong though. I dont feel I can win with sunscreens since they say it produces freeradicals if you dont coat it. I havent used devita but its next on my list.
personally mvo seems quite expensive for a small tub... |

Agree on both counts. I also don't feel like I can win with SS's, and it is very expensive for the size. However, I am willing to pay that for a HG sunscreen! |

Yes, the Pratima daily. I think the Pratima is definitely more moisturizing for my skin, but it also has a much heavier feel that the Devita if that makes sense.
I actually just ordered the Suntegrity BB cream, so I'll do an initial review of that once I receive it and give it a try! |

Sorry (old brain!!), I meant I have used devita (and still do) but next on my list is pratima.
are you worried about the uncoated issue? I dont really understand coated v.s. uncoated except they both have their negatives
Devita is good for me at the moment, although it does sting my eyes sometimes |

Since I don't want anything more or less moisturizing than Devita, I will stick with it for now!
I'll be glad to hear your review of the Suntegrity BB cream! I hope the essential oils will not elevate your redness though.

I've used MVO Moisturizing Face Screen, Pratima and Devita. My skin is normal, slightly dry, fair.
I found that I got color when using Devita on sunny days. Pratima has the nicest "feel" IMHO. I find myself reaching for this one more and more often.
I like the MVO Face Screen. Have not tried the Everyday version. It doubles as a foundation for me, so I wear it on work days. It is very matte, I think the "moisturizing" name is misleading. If you have any flakies (like from retin A) they will show. Good exfoliation or a light oil as suggested would help. Expensive.
If I had to narrow my choice down to one.....I'd pick the Pratima face version.
Suntegrity and Osmosis are my list to try, but need to use up what I have first. Riley - I'll look forward to hearing your opinion on the Suntegrity. |

I don't think there are any essential oils in the BB cream, RussianSunshine. At least I did not see any in the ingredient list! |

It's very informative to get into this topic. I did not know this before, but learn a lot from these generous sharing here. |
