Thanks, RussianSunshine. So, as long as the lotion says "hydrating" I should be fine? I was actually looking at the Pevonia R2 lotion.

Rileygirl,

I've tried different "thin" lotions like the Weil for Origins Plantidote and others but really prefer the Shiseido Hydro-Nourighing Softener Lotion. It seems the right consistency to "stick" and works well with the Webril cotton pads. I also have the Shiseido cotton pads but they are much smaller and a pain to cover the whole face. The webril have a nice stretch and separate easily for a thin mask.

How about trying Rosewater - you buy the concentrate from the pharmacist and just make it up, it's very inexpensive and Rosewater is supposed to have many benefits for the skin.

That definitely may be an option, but I would like to try an already made lotion for the masks to start with. Trying to follow Saeki's advice in her book for this!

Here's an authentic japanese 'lotion' but the writing is all in japanese so difficult to determine what the ingredients are.

Here in the US you can buy Rosewater and Glycerin premixed at the health food stores and it's very liquid, in other words a large percentage of Rosewater to a small percentage of glycerin. It's extreemly hydrating without being greasy or sticky! Might be a great option to try. Smile

Hi Zoftig. Which Shiseido lotion are you using? Hydro softener nourishing lotion? Do you know which line it is in and can you buy it in Canada? Also, where did you get the Webril cotton pads? (sorry if it is in an earlier post) I find the Shiseido softening lotions in the Benefiance line and the Future Perfect one to be very good. They are a bit pricey but they are very moisturizing and make the creams go further. TIA Harriet

Sorry but I´m confused now. What is exactly the best thing to use: lotion or a toner? And what do you mean by lotion?

Thanks Smile

From Saeki book:

"LOTIONS - NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH TONERS OR ASTRIGENTS - CONDITION YOUR SKIN SURFACE. THERE ARE BASICALLY TWO TYPES: HYDRATING LOTIONS AND BRIGHTENING LOTIONS. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND ONLY THOSE LOTIONS THAT CONTAIN LITTLE OR NO ALCOHOL."

I'm using l'oreal age perfect at the moment. I'm not usually a fan of l'oreal skincare but this was on offer for £2 for a 200 ml bottle so I thought I'd give it a go. 5 bottles later I'm still loving it.

I seem to go through a lot of lotion for the mask as I do it daily and this makes it more affordable, plus I love the smell of it.

I've also used Boots Original Tonic which is also reasonable in the UK at £4 per 150ml, and it's on offer at 50% off at the moment. Very Happy

Harriet,

I chose this lotion because she suggested it in her book and I find I like it better than others I have tried for use in a mask. It is listed by Sephora as a toner. This is where I bought it:
http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P173633&shouldPaginate=true&categoryId=5337
Here is the product in Canada and also a site where you can find a store.
http://www.ca-e.shiseido.com/sc/product/view.asp?S=53067
It isn’t inexpensive and there are others that I’m sure will work just as well but like rileygirl, I was simply tired of the hunt and had other skin issues to deal with. It works for me!
I bought my Webril pads from Amazon.
Here’s the website to help you find a distributor in your area:
http://www.misswebril.com/distributors.htm

The pads show 4x4 but they are double folded so actually are about 8x4. Just takes one to cover your whole face by the time you split it as she shows in the video! They have other cheaper pads but they are for industrial use, not 100% cotton, and I wouldn't use them on my skin. Be sure to get the skin care pads!

Thanks RussianSunshine Smile I wasn´t sure about what it meant, cleansing lotion or normal lotion but I got it now. I´m still thinking about using a tonic, since it´s less expensive
but is there any cheap lotion that works with this cotton pads? And is that ok to use one of those cotton masks that come already cut (with holes for the eyes, nose and mouth)

Thanks everyone Wink

lisocas, I've never seen cotton pads in a form of a mask ( with holes) Shock Where did u see them?

One relatively cheap toner to try is Nuxe toning lotion with 3 roses ($22):

Zoftig, I have 4-5 her books, but don't remember she has recommended Shiseido, you like it? I am using a non-famous Japanese brand lotion. Not sure if it is hydrated enough.

Well girls, reading you made me jealous and could not help it but to try it and bought my Shiseido facial cotton. Thx for the tip, I was using the one they sell at Costco and maybe that's why my face was so raw. I love the Shiseido cotton now and I had my Clarins Super Restorative Wake Up Lotion. My face has been feeling very, very dry lately. I did this lotion thing last night and this morning and OMG, I got compliments from friends for first time in a long time and I feel oh.. great!!!

Hi RussianSunshine! I meant plain full sheet masks (without any lotion on it) . You can buy them on ebay, dunno if they are good though. Never tried them.

I like the Shiseido lotion very much for this mask. Anything that can hydrate my winter dry skin is truly hydrating!

I just looked in the English version of her book and could only find the recommendation for the Nars product. hmmm I finally found it in a 53 page Word document I created on her and her treatments. (I might get confused but I am very thorough! Very Happy

Here tis:

“Also, please take note of the lotion Chizu Saeki used to make her lotion mask. It is not the normal lotion we would think of. This lotion is something like a toner but not quite. If you want to see how her "lotion" looks like, just go to Nars counter and ask to see their hydrating lotion(which is what Chizu Saeki mentioned in her book) or go to Shiseido counter and ask to see their softener (which might be referred to as toner sometimes). Shiseido The Skincare Hydro Nourishing Softener - A dual-action, hydrating, and exfoliating lotion that transforms the skin's texture in an instant".

Sorry for the confusion!

Do you have this software?

The software is called Chizu Saeki Style Yumemihada, translated as Dream Skincare. The skincare techniques are those of Japanese beauty advisor Chizu Saeki. The software will be on sale in Japan as of October 18, 2007; at this time there are no plans to introduce the system outside of Japan.

The shiseido lotion is available in sample sizes from ebay. Since my skin sometimes doesn't like products like that, I decided to go that route first.

Zoftig. thanks for the information. I will try the Webril cotton. I had a Shiseido facial and the person said that in Japan women use 6 steps when they wash and treat their face, if I remember correctly, and they use several applications of lotions and elixirs in addition to moisturizer because they really value moisturizing the skin. Maybe this is what Saeki believes. I read recently that well moisturized skin is healthier and the barrier is better.
