Do you have this software?

The software is called Chizu Saeki Style Yumemihada, translated as Dream Skincare. The skincare techniques are those of Japanese beauty advisor Chizu Saeki. The software will be on sale in Japan as of October 18, 2007; at this time there are no plans to introduce the system outside of Japan.

Never heard of it, I can ask my Japanese friend to help me search. It is a skincare IT system?

In the video I saw she uses NARs hydrating lotion, but as the others have said I think its a bit pricey and so you can opt for cheaper alternatives. The cloths she uses are her own, but she does mention there are others you can purchase in the USA.

Has anyone ever tried a lotion mask as described in the book "Japanese Skincare Revolution" by Chizu Saeki? I haven't purchased this book but am seriously considering doing so. So, I'd love some feedback on the book, too, if you've read it. I've become interested in the lotion mask after watching the author demonstrate it and reading some blogs talking about it:

http://www.vivawoman.net/2009/08/15/diy-lotion-mask-demo-by-chizu-saeki/

The only problem perhaps is finding the right cotton to use and the right lotion/toner.

Starting Wednesday, Beauty.com is having a 20% off friends & family sale. If you want to buy the tablet masks, I bought some of the Awake Pop-up masks from beauty.com. Regular price is 24 for $15.

On and off this entire thread I have seen several have been unclear about the differences between a "toner" and a "lotion" for this mask.

I did grasp early on that this wasn't a traditional lotion that you use for the mask. But I was confused by the toner comparison.

I originally used an alcohol free toner by Neutrogena for the mask. It did brighten my skin, but I couldn't see it was moisturized.

I found 1 ounce samples of the Shiseido hydro nourishing lotion on ebay and bought one to try.

The consistency of this is like OIL, but the texture reminded me of a serum. It is nothing like a toner. Those who are using a toner probably aren't getting the full benefits of the mask.

I have been using an old cotton t-shirt with holes cut out for eyes, nose, and lips. I used it last night with the shiseido following using my microdermabrasion cloth which always dries my skin out. I first soak the t-shirt mask in hot water. Then I put the shiseido directly on my face and instantly covered with the warm cloth. I laid down for five minutes with the mask on, then rinsed with cool water and let my face mostly air dry. All I can say is WOW. This is the perfect hydrating mask to follow the exfoliating cloth, and what I will use afterward from now on.

Thanks!

Hi gossamerwings, do you mean the Shisheido hydro nourishing softener? Some people call it a softener lotion.

Just want to add that I have the Chinese version of all her books, lotion is definitely not toner. I am using a few lotion (bought them when I was in Hong Kong), have more choices from Japanese brands.

I also use the Olay Regenerist serum for lotion mask, it works wonderful!!

In her new book, she suggests to cover the lotion mask with hotel's shower cap (cut some holes).

Thanks for that description, gossamerwings (love your pen name!!) because just looking at it on the web, it looks like a toner. I'll check the texture etc out in a store before I buy it. Cheers Very Happy

Anna, I suppose it could be like a toner (I wouldn't be able to tell by ingredients as you ladies can), but I usually use witch hazel or the alcohol free toners, and they feel cool on my skin and make my skin a bit red. They sometimes sting a bit. I don't know how the shiseido is different, but it is... In fact, I followed it right after the micro dermabrasion cloth. I am sure witch hazel would have stung, but this didn't. I did like it. If there is something cheaper thats similar, I'd love to know! I bought a one ounce sample for 6 something on ebay.

I got the book, I am going to read and write later what I found about what she says about what kind of lotion(s)she recommends. I was confused and wanted to know if the one I'm using is the correct one and the proper way to do it.

Later!

The Beauty, com 20% discount also works through Amazon. I bought the masks there and was pleasantly surprised to see the discount was automatically applied.

LOL. I read the book but I'm still confused as to what kind of "lotion" would be the best to use. Anyway, I will continue to use my Clarins one, I'm going for the second bottle, it's expensive though, but my skin loves it.

Very good tips in the book; one that put me to think was that when looking at our faces if we have one side more wrinkly than the other one to chew more on that side and to sleep on that side, which makes sense because I sleep on my not so wrinkly side and I chew on that side also.

Now, that one confused me, as I always sleep on my wrinkly side, and it certainly is not helping my situation!

My wrinkly side is very different from the side I sleep and chew on that's why it make sense to me, not sagging, but I have more cheek and less larger pores.

I quote for you, rilegirl:

p. 34
Quote:

" First, scan your face in the mirror for sagging and distortion. If you notice that corner of your right eye is lower than that of your left, the right side of your face is sagging. Tone the muscles on the right by making a conscious effort to chew on that side. By "correcting" imperfections in your face, you can bring it closer to symmetry, one of the basic requisites for beauty."

I don't think you can always tell what side is going to be more wrinkled from the dominant chewing side, or sleeping side.

I sleep on my left side and chew on my left side because I am left eye dominant (I am "cross dominant"- left eye, but right handed). Well, the right side of my face is definitely my better side- the skins much better, more tone, etc. The only thing missing is that my masseter (sp) is more developed on my left side (which reflects chewing).

Now here is MY theory. I wear my hair parted over my left eye (you can usually tell a persons dominant eye by the side they naturally part their hair on). The hair on my right has *always* fell just slightly over my right side of face because I have a widows peak hairline. I personally think the skin on my right looks better because its been protected more from sun damage because of the tendency to let my hair fall over that side (think Veronica Lake).

This is me, too, but I feel that my right side has been more protected due to more sun getting on my left side when driving. I also think my left side is worse Due to the sleeping on that side all the time!! I know what she says in the book, but that one doesn't work for me. Confused

Yeah rileygirl. Here I am trying to train myself to sleep on my back to prevent sleep lines from sleeping on my side, right?

LOL.. my right side is better too (the one I sleep on) and for what you are saying girls, reason is because the sun does not hit it while driving...hehehe and not for sleeping on it!

I am nearly always a passenger in the car- not the driver. For me its that hair part protecting the right side of my face- but I agree that for most its probably uv exposure from driving!

Here's specifically what she says about the lotion:

Quote:
A key part of my skincare program is the lotion mask. Though involving only lotion, water, and cotton, it works miracles. Lotions-not to be confused with toners or astringents-condition your skin surface. There are basically two types: hydrating lotions and brightening lotions. The ingredients are typically 80% water and 10% alcohol, along with an assortment of moisturizing agents and therapeutic ingredients. I strongly recommend only those lotions that contain little or no alcohol.

The NARSskin Hydrating Freshening Lotion is the only one she lists as an example. I looked at Japanese skincare lines to see if I could find a hydrating lotion and settled on the Shiseido lotion for now. But I'm sure there are other lotions that can be used, probably some that are cheaper. Kassy has a DIY recipe that I'll probably incorporate as soon as I get the ingredients.

She also suggests using the lotion mask while taking a bath. She says to cut holes in a shower cap and put over your face & lotion mask. I tried this last night but had trouble because of the pieces of cotton. I think this would definitely work better with a one piece mask, such as the Kose tablets o r the other tablets mentioned above.

Sry for replying so late...

I know sheseido sells those face cotton pads and they are made in Japan.
Even the drugstores here have themand they are $8 a package.

DHC skincare also sells Japanese made skincare, and it sounds like something they would carry.

I have not looked at the DHC site in ages, but theyjust sent me a catalog.

I had been tried this method for a while. It works for me but I am too lazy to continue it. Now, I live in Japan. This kind of cotton mask is not quite expensive around 600 yen/box.

I've used Kose for lotion mask. Also using the 'special cotten pads' which I bought in Japan during a holiday.
The Kose Sekkeshi (or something) bottle I'm using helps to soften the skin and gives a bit of hydration. So using it as a lotion mask basically is just a more intense use of the lotion for me.
But for sure it did help to brighten up the skin.

Also to share this tip, which a facial therapist told me. For sheet masks (and lotion masks), it is not good to place it till it dries up. Cos when the liquid dries up, the moisture from our skin surface is being 'evaporated' too. Hence it may do more harm than good when we put our sheet masks on for too long.
