I would say sunblock, although I have been using it winter and summer for over 15 years.
But since you are 20, please read the article I posted 'Old Before Your Time', which warns against young people using products like Retin-a and other acids. |

| What a brilliant question this is. Aside from the obvious suscreen (which I started using at age 32, and then only in the sun), I would say a good exfoliator. This would likely have helped build collagen up without the risks of using a chemical such as retinoic acid. |

| SUNSCREEN for sure! It's so important to protect your skin from UV damage. I also wished I had just used bp instead of the irritating products my facialist gave me when I had acne. |

I remember as a undergraduate looking out my dorm window and watching girls in groups slapping baby oil and sun bathing for hours until red and raw. I have dark skin and I wished so much that I was light complected so I also could slap that baby oil on and talk about my sunburn! |

my skin is just plain weird, for foundation I end up buying fair and medium and mixing one too light the other too dark.
Yet that said I have baked winter white all day long even in Hawaii Jamaca and NEVER NEVER had a sunburn.
As Winnie said it was considered the healthy "look" back in the day. I can remember my mother seeing me inside reading a book and admonishing me " go outside and get some sun "
even though I did not burn I can just imagine what all that "health" has done to my skin as far as damage!
Ohhhhh if we only knew then.....

Well it's what I wouldn't have used. I wouldn't have used Crisco oil slathered all over my body while baking in the sun for hours on end. THEN, I wouldn't have used tanning beds for the past 20 years. Wow, you live and learn and sometimes you pay dearly. Now, trying to reverse everything I was trying to gain all those years ago. Boy, we humans can make some pretty stupid choices in this life.  |

by the way I dearly love my kids, but at 29,25,24,20 they are all still driving me nuts at times. So I hope no one is offended by my little snide post about tubal ligation! |

I agree but after all the pregnancies my skin went from "peaches and cream" to having uneven skin tone, I know all the cooking in the sun sans sunscreen did a number too, but I noticed the change with first child I was 26.
I need more coverage so it is MMU for me. So much better for skin! I love the effect I get from it.

I would have started using Retin-A and Vit C serum a few years ago if I had known about them. I have never been a sun worshiper only because I got so bored laying in the sun so I don't have too much damage - just aging.  |

Humor is my Saving Grace!
Believe it or not when my mom chased me out into the sun or dragged me off to the country club, I read my books while baking in the sun. I know it drove my mom batty! I on the other hand heartily encouraged all four of my kids to read, and like their mom to this day they are all avid readers!
I agree with the Vitamin C starting earlier I never saw much results from Retin A but I am the odd one there.

Reading this thread I am very proud to myself of taking care to stay out of sun last ten years. I didn't pay so much attention on the sunscreens, but I think that all my moisturisers and make up foundation had good SPF. I live on the island, but very rarely go to beach - on the weekends and than with a lot of sunscreen and not before 5 p.m. .
But I really wish that I knew before :
- about C serum (I heard but I didn't pay attention),
- Retin A
- avocado oil and
- my Tuo Viso gadget. |

I met one of my girlfriend in drugstore few days ago - she was looking for daily moisturiser and have very sensitive dry skin. I just came when salesgirl suggested her to buy nice Avene moisturiser and than I add my comment to choose same one - but with SPF factor (this cream have both version) and salesgirl (young and very attractive woman with nice skin but totally covered with very dark make up) look at me and ask - :"Why?" And add very wisely : "my mother never used any moisturiser of SPF and she looked just fine!" She really seems pissed of!
I said just "OK, I wish you to look as nice as your mother when you come to her age. And now give this woman moisturiser with SPF and than go home and take look to your mother very carefully." My friend wanted to sink in to the earth because of discomfort 
Saleswoman in drugstore which don't know basics of skin care is not very rare ... and than I recollect something what I want to share with you.

....describing life in one Caribbean town in 19th century he said: "...Inside, in fresh, with incense saturated bedrooms, woman are kept themselves from the sun as from some awful infection, and even on the early morning holly mass they covered their faces with black veil....
19th century and those women knew what this smart one in 21st century name with "nonsense".
