When I look at your photo I see your lovely skin and sensual lips, of course, but the primary thought I have is "Why is she not smiling? Is she unhappy?"
"How young she is!" or "Oh look, she has no lines" would not be in my head at all. Nor would "Oh look, she has lines when she smiles" if you were beaming.
Go for the smile -- (or the frown). The more expressive you are, the more full of connection and life. It is a signal to others that you are engaging.
I think a sky with scattered clouds is much more interesting and full of possibilites than a cloudless blue sky. Cloudless is nice. But not forever.
ps. The Peaberry coffee has (of course) been discontinued. Although there is a (limited edition) Peaberry from Kauai now. It's in a gorgeous bright blue can. I think Volcano or Breakfast Blend are still the best, though. |
Hahaha...Sidda, you made me laugh. Thanks! I smile for all my pictures, except for these so-called TEST pictures I take for certain studies. lol I was trying to show what my NL Lines look like without any expression at all on my face. I know I look scary without a smile. I do have pictures with a smile. Hang on, I post one, but then you can't tell if I have those lines or not.
Anyway, I am taking down the TEST pics now as I only wanted to post them for CMAYC to see that she can definitely conquer those NL lines. :P And she has now seen them, so the purpose of those two pics has been accomplished. I must say I really hate taking these TEST pics because I think I look scary not smiling. (Ooops I repeated myself, didn't I?) BOO!
ETA: Hmm...I deleted my TEST pics, but they're still showing up. Anyone else still sees them? Weird! |

41 for me. I started to see the NL lines coming out and some slackness. The eye area is not as firm as before, either. |

bkkgirl, it takes a while for the link to break from photobucket.com.
My pictures were still showing up after breaking the link, and I finally had to just cancel the account after several days. I have since opened a new one.
Give it another day or so. |

There is hope ladies. In my forties I felt worn down and looked it. My best years were the fifties. Children grown, joined a gym and more time to take care of myself. So I would have to say that I started showing the signs of aging in my forties.
I don't mind expression lines at all (crows feet, forehead lines, neck rings). After all I earned every one of them. Sagging is another issue and therefore I work on that. When I am tired and stressed sagging seems more pronounced. It is during these times I think I look sad (mouth corners down).
As of now I look much younger then my years. However, I know the day will come that I will look old. As long as I have my good health and a young spirit I will be OK with that. After a year of not being able to walk without a brace and a lengthy post op recuperation I would give up a youthful face for my physical well being any day. |

I already started noticing fine lines around my eyes and mouth on my 25th birthday. I looked in the mirror and all of a sudden saw them and got the shock of my life. Since then I have been taking care of my skin religiously. I realized that if I would continue to sit in the sun and not use creams or sunscreen, that I would end up looking like a hag at a young age. Thanks to my realization, that didn't happen. |

Winnie that is so true that beauty with out health means nothing! I also agree with you that sagging is alot worst of an issue than expression lines because I have never seen a young person with a sagging face! |

I actually started seeing lines around my nose and mouth in my early twenties. I started wearing sunscreen and those went away. I think I started seeing lines underneath my eyes around 25. They showed up when I smiled. I use a matrixyl serum and they have gotten better. At 32, I started seeing lines on the left side of my face. I changed my whole routine. I started using skincare focused on antiaging and a physical sunblock. I think the skincare has slowed down the aging process. The thing is I'm photosensitve to the sun so, I will be more prone to age quickly if I don't take care of myself. |

Thank you ladies for your responses and support. You are all great. I think the transition period is tough for anyone, and I don't judge anyone at all on how they feel, whether they worry about their lines or not, or whether they love all their lines. I think everyone has the right to feel however they feel, and I am most certainly not God to tell anyone whether they were right or wrong. And that is really all I ask from you all, and I think most of you are very accepting and non-judgmental, very lovely ladies. For that, I truly appreciate you guys. Like I said earlier in my post, turing 40 is just gonna be a bit tougher for me than turning 30, but I guess once that line is crossed, then I just have to deal with it. I know I will still face each and every day with a smile. There're reasons for my smile lines after all. Even if I try not to smile, I can't. I've been programmed to smile even to a complete stranger who walks by. There're people at work who won't smile when I smile at them, and I don't know why. hehe |

Approaching forty was hard for me also. Like I said in the above post my fifties were a breeze. Go figure? |

I started noticing in my mid 20's. I have a vertical worry line slightly off center between my eyebrows that I hate. I am getting more distinct laugh lines and the fine lines under my eyes have more pronounced. But I still get told daily that I don't look 35 so I must be doing an awesome job of applying my makeup. |

SusanSkin, I'm glad you realize the importance of sunscreen early on. Good for you! After reading so many posts from many women here on EDS, it just seems that people who use SS early on have better skin. I have never been a sun worshipper but was not afraid of it either. I also don't wear sunglasses enough which I think I need to try to do so more often. |

hehehe....makeup can really hide things. My co-worker told me I needed to apply some eyeliners, so my eyes wouldn't look tired. They look that way a lot b/c I don't always get a good sleep or long enough sleep. When my eyes look tired, my entire face looks old instantly. So I can disguise the tired eyes with eyeliners and shadows.
I don't know if this will work for you but for me, when I apply adequate moisturizer under my eyes, the fine lines nearly disappear. Right now, I use the L'Oreal Revitalift Eye Cream, and I actually like it. I finished half a jar already and feel like it's working well for me. It's also only $17 from CVS. |

SCF, which matrixyl serum do you use? I agree with you that good skincare routine is truly essential in slowing down the aging process, and I even feel like it can reverse SOME signs of aging. We just have to be diligent aboubt it. The other night I fell asleep with my makeup on (well, just the eyes). I woke up and noticed the hated NL lines deeper. They got better as the day went by and I reapplied the moisturizer after I cleansed my face. So yes, I do think all the creams, lotions, and potions are important. Now I try to remember to use SS daily and even sometimes twice a day. |

I feel like my forehead area is my most problematic one. The skin doesn't seem smooth, and I think it's because I love to raise my brows and when I concentrate, I frown a lot. The skin elasticity is definitely going to be something I have to fight every step of the way, esp for under the eyes. |

My first wrinkles were the 11's and that was it - my frown lines really annoyed me! I was around 45. Now I am 50 and in the last year I noticed some slight wrinkling around by lower face - I looked at myself and thought "What is That!"....
Now, it's all about tightening products for the lower face!!!! Oh dear. It's all downhill from here. |

Wow, that's awesome, Sis! First wrinkles at 45 I think is fabulous. Do you have a peek-a-boo skin like me? I sometimes feel that some days my skin looks great but some other days "????" |

What signs of aging bug you the most?
For me, it's got to be the eyelid droops or something to do with the eyes looking tired. I feel like if my eyes look bright, my entire face looks good. On days when I don't get a good sleep or enough sleep, my eyes are the first to go. Of course, I can cover that up with eyeliners and shadows, but no wonder an eyelift sounds tempting. I think if done well, a good eyelift can probably lift 10 years off one's face. I really need to start looking for a good doctor for this. Does anyone else consider surgery to correct problems you try to fix with topicals but don't see results? I think when done right, surgeries seem to help a lot. Look at Susan Lucci; she looks the same as 20 years ago. It's amazing. I don't even know how old she is, but she looks fabulous. Of course, you can go overboard, too, like Priscilla Presley. |

The sign of aging that bugs me the most is that dang frown line I have right in between my eyebrows. Other than that the rest I can live with. I mean, sure I'd like to have the skin I had in my teens without the terrible acne, but I'm not the kind of woman that wouldn't dare leave the house without any make up. I like to look good when I want or have to but it's not going to stop me from going to the grocery or Walmart if I don't have any time to apply make up...that's what baseball caps were invented for. |

What bugs me the most is the fatty pouches under my eyes, and the start of jowls. And in general, things just starting to sag everywhere.
I think I'll start spending some time standing on my head.......
And I wholeheartedly agree with 'echokitten', and have never been a slave to makeup. |

I don't worry about looking bad at WalMart either It's definitely happened and sometimes I hit the grocery store right after the gym - again: not my best look.
I saw Priscilla Presley on television recently and she looked bad - too much done to her face and so obvious it looked almost contorted.
LucyLuc said in another thread eyelid surgery did the most for her face in terms of giving it a youthful appearance. |
