I've only just got back home after being away for a year, so I haven't caught up with her yet. I will be interested to see if they went with the technology - I'll let you know when I find out.

Are you off the boat and on an even keel? I sooooooooo enjoyed your stories.

I am, I'm a land-lubber again. I don't know about being on an even keel though - one look in my bathroom mirror was enough to send shock waves through me. The bathroom on the boat was tiny and the mirror had a bulkhead running through it so I couldn't get a proper look at my reflection - bliss! Sadly, it's back to reality for me.

The picture on the home page is ridiculous, but there's another B&A section with some pics of ordinary people - they look more realistic.

That's prolotherapy in its latest incarnation. Regular prolotherapy involves injecting the joint with a dextrose and lidocaine solution, creating an inflammation response so the body can heal itself. Dr. Marc Darrow, who I believe is mentioned in one of Suzanne Somers' antiaging books, has a radio show I listen to every Saturday and he talks about it and takes calls from people. I'm planning to have this done in my knees and shoulder but you have to pay cash and it's somewhat expensive. The PRP, which he also does, is even more expensive and more painful because it gives a faster result. Prolotherapy can eliminate the need for most joint operations, so if you are ever told you need joint surgery, try prolotherapy first and save yourself a lot of pain.

You can watch videos of the procedure

Wow indeed!! those before and afters are amazing, do we believe them?

So they recommend twice a year, looks painful..lol, but then that's never stopped me before.. Wink

how much would a full face cost, I would imagine this would be expensive. If those B & A are genuine it would be worth it.

Patient 17's results look impressive - subtle, but you can see that the skin is revitalised. One would only imagine that the more treatments you have, the better the results would be.

Kate, have you heard any buzz about this at all? They're doing it at the Ashmore Clinic and at Dr. Flyn's clinic at Southport

There are a couple of clinics in Melbourne doing it too. It seems to vary in price? Seems to be about $880 a vial. Most places say two vials for a full face. Some I saw said $2400 to $1350 for a full face?

It seems abit strange most of the sites say the outcome is not immediate and not gauranteed (nothing ever is..lol!) yet the B & A are pretty amazing. Love to hear from someone who actually had this done.

I was wondering about that Bermie as in the video on the Miami clinic video the description of how this works leads you to believe it would have to take time. I recall mention of encouraging new blood vessels that carry oxygen to the skin, can't imagine that would happen overnight.
I would also love to hear some real life experience on this. Smile

In the interest of avoiding duplication and keeping things tidy, we are adding these related posts from http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=40369…

If you are considering getting a filler, you may want to check out PRP or Selphyl. They are a natural filler (derived from you own blood) which means you won't have an adverse reaction. I've had it twice in my face and once in my lips. I love the way it filled in my lips, especially. Smile

I'm going to get PRP next month! I am so excited! Did it hurt very much? How long did it take for the swelling to go down?

Anne19 wrote:
It didn't hurt much at all. She spread a lidocaine solution all over my face about half an hour prior to injecting. I've had it done twice, the first time I was pretty swollen for about four days, the next time, for some reason I didn't swell as much. Prior to doing my lips, she did several numbing injections. You want to make sure you choose a very experienced injector.

I think PRP and Selphyl are the future. People are wanting safer and more natural ways to fight aging.

Let us know how it goes Whirleegig!

I'm going to the doctor on Friday for a consultation on this - I'll let you know how it goes.

I don't think PRP can really be classified as a filler though. It is allot different and the results aren't instantaneous.

I wondered how long it would be before you bit the bullet on this Keliu, let us know what you find out about it, and if you decide to go for the treatment? Not that I can plunk down the cash right now, ahhhhhh a girl can dream though! Laughing

I want to mention that I had PRP as a means of helping my skin to heal from a laser procedure that went bad.. So for me, it was for healing as well as for filling. You're right Keliu, the filling aspect isn't dramatic, however, if you're looking for subtle, this might be the ticket Smile

Anne19 - could you tell us exactly how many units you had. Also, how long did it take to see the results? Did you have your treatments about 4 weeks apart? Did you have the injections in the actual body of the lips?

I don't know how many units of PRP I had injected. My first treatment I was treated all over my face. The second treament, six weeks later, I was injected all over my face including the actual body of my lips. I noticed the results about four week post procedure.

What exact improvements did you see to your face? You say you had a bad experience with a laser - could you elaborate on this please?

Sorry for all the questions, but I've been dying to hear from someone who has actually had this done! I'd like to know what realistic expectations I should have.

I've actually booked in for a consultation at Australian Skin Clinic at Ashmore next Thursday. So I'll let you know what they say - I'd like to get it done around my mouth. They quoted $1,200 per area but the process needs to be repeated within 4-6 weeks.

Wow! how does that compare in U.S. dollars? That seems high!

I'm getting it done next month at a Stem Cell center in Arizona and it's not nearly that much! But I'm a fractional laser damage victim so I feel it will really help me.

It's about $AUD880.00 per vial here - cosmetic procedures are very expensive here compared to the US - we get totally ripped off.

I didn't end up keeping the appointment because I ran into a friend of mine who is a nurse at another clinic on the coast. She said that she and another nurse had had the PRP injections six weeks ago and that she felt that her skin had improved slightly. However, she wasn't sure whether the improvement was due to the PRP or the fact that she had taken up her exercise programme again. She also said that the other nurse who had had her neck injected saw no improvement whatsoever. She said that the clinic where she works is waiting to see the end results before they fork out for a centrifuge machine.

There's also an article on PRP in this month's Australian Vogue magazine. It says, "Theoretically, there is good science behind it but the documented effects of platelet-rich plasma are very subtle - and most patients want visible effects". I know that if I'm going to pay thousands of dollars for this treatment - I definitely want visible results!

Six weeks is not enough time to tell if it has worked. I've heard that you should wait at least twice that long for results.

Thank you for the price comparison, Keliu! I think the prices here fluctuate a great deal.
