mlrox - below is a list of the sunscreens I have personally tried this year.
Marie Veronique Creme de Soleil SPF 30
|
I'm using the Pratima SPF right now but wondered how the Marie Veronique one compares? I also liked the Osmosis SPF. |
Havana8 - I was expecting great results from the Marie Veronique Creme de Soleil, but unfortunately, it did not work for me. I have what I consider a normal skin type - - not too dry and not too oily. Creme de Soleil does contain an impressive list of ingredients, but I found it to be too drying. I would expect it to work well for those with oily skin. It was also somewhat difficult to apply and it did leave a noticeable whiteness/dullness on my face. Also, I did not care for the natural herbal-like fragrance. Compared to Creme de Soleil, Pratima is much easier to apply, is better absorbed by the skin, feels lighter on the skin and does not leave any noticeable whiteness on the face. The Creme de Soleil is a good product, but it just did not work for me. |
Does anyone know the particle size of the Pratima Neem sunscreen? ie nano/microionized etc. Thanks. |

The Pratima website says "micronized Zinc Oxide (18.6%)". You may want to call or e-mail them for additional info. |

Okay, here's my notepad on MUA with the names, prices and ingredients of pretty much every single zinc-only sunscreen I can find:
http://makeupalley.com/user/notepad/zincsunscreens
If you don't have an MUA account, you can read it here:

This is one of the many, many, waterless zinc-only sunscreens. It's extremely thick and heavy because it consists of a variety of oils and butters. |

I thought it was horrible. It is very thick, like putting paste on your face and it does not sink in. One of the worst sunscreens I have tried! |

Instead of UV Naturals, you may wish to try the Natural Instinct sunblock. Although it is thick and pasty but it is not oily and gives a matte finish. It sinks into the skin nicely too. And there is hardly any white cast (I am fair skinned though). Many thanks to stellarfungi who recommended it on makeupalley.
I was also going to try the Burnout sunscreen at some stage as I'm interested to order the zinc oxide lip sunscreens. I have been informed that the lip sunscreens are also 18.6% zinc oxide (info from the company via email). |

Is it OK to ingest zinc oxide? |

Zinc oxide is used as a food additive. It is on the US FDA category of GRAS ("generally regarded as safe"). You can check it on wikipedia.org. If you find good evidence that it is unsafe for use in lip product, please post it here so that we can all learn.
I am not keen to ingest OCTINOXATE which is the ingredient most commonly used to provide SPF in lip sunscreens.
Is there any other alternative for a lip sunscreen?
Or do you think it might be safer not to use ANY SPF product on the lips? |

It's ok to digest a little zinc oxide, it's in some vitamins!
I think it's usually ok to just use whatever sunscreen you're using on your face on your lips too. But- the facial sunscreen that's totally awesome on the lips is NCN's zinclear sunscreen. It's her original formula that's super rich. It's too rich for my face but it's perfect for my lips. It also has 25% zinc oxide, so I'm confident that it's protecting me. |

Oh no, she's just working on making it less rich and more matte but she's definitely going to continue to provide the original rich version no matter what since so many people love it and this is what I'm referring to. So eventually she'll have more than 1 versions, and the original one will just be labelled the richest version or something like that. |

Hey, I've used this too and LOVED it. The Eco-Sensitive Zinc Oxide SPF 32, that is. They have a new sunscreen with 18.6% zinc oxide that has hemp oil in it that I haven't tried. The Zinc Oxide SPF 32 felt heavy but was fully matte, which is what I look for in a sunscreen. |

Hi how does the Burnout Eco-sensitive compare with Natural Instinct SPF30+? I really like the Natural Instinct (based on your recommendation in makeupalley - thanks). But on occasions I find it a bit drying on some parts of my skin (I have combination skin). |

Zinc Oxide in the PC are nanoparticles which are weak in UVA protection. |

It seems that Burnout ships to U.K.
Go to the webpage of Burnout; create and account and place an order there. |

The UK site also say's it's 12% zinc instead of 13%
If I was interested in using this sunscreen which I'm not (too pricey, too low zinc%) I'd contact PC personally and ask them if they use nano or not. I have a strong feeling they would say they do not. |
