Well got a reply from Alyria, their serum has 0.2% retinol, the online web stores where I saw the 2% were not correct and that they will adress the issue.
Since I already bought the serum I will use it, but will probably look into something else with more retinol after.
Then, if I tolerate well a higher % of retinol I will try (again) Retin-A at its lower level, 3 times a week. |

I have not used this one yet; should I have not "retinized", I would use this product before moving up to tretinoin.

I was surprised to see they discontinued their Tri-Retinol Complexes as they consistently get great reviews but according to their CS, they've upgraded the products:
Our Tri-Retinol Complex and Tri-Retinol Complex ES have both been discontinued. We have had an update in the technology of this product and now carry three strengths of our new Retinol Complex. These strengths are .25, .5 and 1.0. If you were using Tri-Retinol ES comfortably, I recommend starting with Retinol Complex .5. Please be aware that the new retinols contain a more powerful form of Vitamin A than the previous line. The percentages may seem smaller than before, but this is because these are a more potent formulation more on par with prescription strength tretinoin.
Here's the ingredient list for the new product:
SkinMedica Retinol Complex 0.5
Ingredients: Water/Aqua/Eau, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Glycine Soja Oil, Niacinamide, Polyacrylate-13, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Squalane, Retinol, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-8, Dunaliella Salina Extract, Magnolia Grandiflora Bark Extract, Tocopherol, Tocotrienols, Ceramide 3, Bisabolol, Phytosterols, Squalene, Tocopheryl Acetate, Oryza Sativa Bran Cera, Glycerin, Polysorbate 20, Butylene Glycol, Cetyl Palmitate, Laureth-23, Trideceth-6 Phosphate, Sodium Hydroxide, Dicaprylyl Ether, Lauryl Alcohol, Polyisobutene, Dextran, Potassium Sorbate, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin |

I use Vichy liftactiv Retinol HA, nuit
Active ingredients: retinol, adenosine, hyaluronic acid. It is sold in an under pressure pump system. I like it as it is quite moisturizing. I asked Vichy about the concentration of retinol and as far as I remember their answer was 1%.
These are the ingredients:
WATER GLYCERIN DIMETHICONE PENTAERYTHRITYL TETRAETHYLHEXANOATE BUTYROSPERMUM PARKII BUTTER / SHEA BUTTER ELAEIS GUINEENSIS OIL / PALM OIL PROPANEDIOL BUTYLENE GLYCOL HYDROGENATED PALM KERNEL GLYCERIDES SUCROSE STEARATE DIMETHICONE/VINYL DIMETHICONE CROSSPOLYMER POLY C10-30 ALKYL ACRYLATE STEARIC ACID SORBIC ACID RIETHANOLAMINE DIMETHICONOL SODIUM POLYACRYLATE SODIUM HYALURONATE RETINOL PHENOXYETHANOL ADENOSINE DIPOTASSIUM GLYCYRRHIZATE HYDROGENATED PALM GLYCERIDES CAPRYLYL GLYCOL HYDROLYZED HYALURONIC ACID XANTHAN GUM CRYLATES/C10-30 ALKYL ACRYLATE CROSSPOLYMER FRAGRANCE |

I've tried retin A in the past but I would break out even when using the lowest strength once a week (I've tried both cream and gel versions).
So I switched to retinol products (SkinCeuticals and Green Cream 6) and sometimes Avene Ystheal (with Retinaldehyde). And they all work wonderfully, my hormonal acne have cleared out and my forehead is smooth. |
