Hi everyone
I have been following this thread and have done the massasge twice and I suffer with painful sinuses now and again and the massasge seems to "release" some of the thick mucus and releave the bunged up feeling for me so i am glad i followed this thread.Thankyou!!!! Im very curious about eastern medicine and food as I think I read that asian people do not suffer as much from irritable bowel syndrome, perhaps due to the lack of wheat and diary.Loving the imput from critic and moonstone!!! |
Have you tried a Netti pot for the sinuses - it's a terrific natural way to help clear things out. |

Hi Thoughtful,
Can you please tell me which massage technique you're using? I too suffer from horrible sinus congestion, and any type of "release" no matter how temporary sounds GOOD. I even try to tickle my nose with a feather to induce sneezing!
Thanks! |

I've seen those links before but thought they were for the face?

| Thanks, I have seen that site moonstone but really wanted to know if the whole book is going to be translated, as this is only a segment from the book, and Critic has been telling us that Tanaka has lots of massages in the book which I'm curious over (such as hands, as mine look terrible not matter what I do). I suspect that even the translation might miss things out from the original text also, but have been using that and doing it alongside the link posted.[ |
Oh, you are talking about Tanaka's body massage. Actually there are two books from Tanaka. One is for the face massage while the other one is for the body.
Here are two links where you can learn more about Tanaka's body massage.

TheresaMary,
No idea if there is an English edition! I understand what you mean, when I bought my first bone facial book in Japan, I thought I can understand just by 'reading' the photos, but it is toally another story after I got the one which is translated in Chinese last week.
Although it is translated in Chinese, still can't fully understand even with pictures.
Example, the first exercise in bone facial exercise:
1. use your left hand to hold your forehead (with a pic next to it)
2. use your right hand to hold your chin (with a pic next to it)
3. Now, push and pull on anti-direction (no pic)
I have no cluse on anti-direction, my guess is left hand move to right? right hand move to left? Or left hand move upward, right hand move downward? So, it will be perfect to have a book and DVD! |

Hi everyone Fat Swan I have been doing the facial massage with the lady with the black hat the link is in this thread. It just seems to get things moving,a homeopath told me to do similiar exercises around the nose and between and over the eyebrows to encourage drainage.
To sister sweet Yes I have tried rinsing out my sinuses with a neti pot and salt water rinses and Ive been on steriod medication and i have steamed my sinuses, used differnet oils and reduced my dairy consumption all helped a little.I like the massage because its natural and feels good. |

Critic,
are there only 4 "exercises" in the bone massage? I only get the 4 when I follow the link.
Could you, please, briefly explain how you do them - do you just press or slap or hit or what? It is unclear from the rather awkward automatic translation.
TIA |

Glad to hear that Tanaka's massage brings you some extra health benefit! Accupressure practitioners often claim that pressure to certain points on the face and head can help to clear sinus congestion, by triggering the natural healing tendencies of the human body. I guess Tanaka's massage probably works on those pressure points to alleviate the sinus pain!
Have you ever tried yoga breathing for sinus relief? Breathing exercise of yoga like alternate nostril breathing can also help in the treatment of sinus to great extent. My mom's sinus infection improves a lot after doing the breathing exercise for a few weeks.

I just wanted to say, I was taking shortcuts with the Tanaka (Zogan) massage at first and not doing the 'final reception' down to the collarbones on any of the exercises. Within a week, I had spots along the sides of my face.
I've been doing the massage properly for the last 3 weeks and no spots!!
The massage must be doing something to have this sort of effect on the skin.
I'm taking a rest from all facial exercise and am concentrating on this to see how it goes from an anti-ageing point of view. |

Massage definitely does, and I like Tanaka's approach to demoing the massage as its very lymphatic by nature and so will clear blocks etc, so if you weren't taking it down to the collarbone, I can imagine the toxins etc weren't able to fully escape to the exit route. That said, its a great lesson to learn from.
RE taking the rest from facial exercises, thats fine you have to listen to your body, but I think this massage (as with any massage) will compliment them nicely and so it doesn't have to be a case of either/or in case others are wondering. They do work well together!

It mentions many times in the book that it is a MUST to do down to the collarbones at every step. That step is very important to removing the dirt. It also demonstrates how to do it correctly. |

More than 4, should be 10-12 in total. I try to post the steps when I have time. As they are in Japanese, so I also not 100% sure if I am doing them correctly. I press (focus the strength from my bone). |

Does the video link we have on this thread demonstrate the collarbone move well or is there more to the technique that's shown in the book? |

Can't remember if it demo in the video. I just open a file for my before/after photo, I looked so ugly before I started the massage, I showed the pic to my husband and blamed him not 'warn' me. You can PM me your email address and I can't send them to you. These pics will remind me never give-up massaging. BTW, I start Tanaka together with changing my diet with Chinese food therapy. |

Well, what can I say about Critics's photos I saw?
Let me be really loud: My God! That's some before and after photos I never saw until now. Transformation is so obvious from month to month...
I will definitely start with those massage.

All,
I have emailed the pic to those who PM me. There are total 6 photos.
1. Jan 2009 - looked horrible, with all aging signs, eyelids were dropping, no chin, no neck.
2. April 2009 - close-up, maybe started the program for few days.
3. June 2009 - getting much better
4. Sept 2009 - the shape of my face is changing
5. Oct 2009 - close-up, no make-up. Skin is almost perfect.
6. Nov 2009 - Thanks Giving Day, no make-up.
Besides starting massage in mid-April, I also do foot bath every night and follow Chinese food therapy, just to avoid the food which is no good to the body. If you just compare Photo 1 and 6, you will think I have lost weight, I am always within 48.5 kilo range for whole life, even having 2 kids.
Here is the Chinese food theraphy discussion:

Critic, you do not look horrible in pic 1, you look quite lovely and I'm flabbergasted that you absolutely improved on your beauty with this routine. I've added some of the exercises from the links you, Moonstone and Maggie(at Ageless) have provided, to my routine.
Thank you so much for forwarding your piccies! |

Thank you for the compliments from those got my pictures. Someone asked me in email about what I did with my hair, if you checked my thread about Chinese food, my hair was dry and always with split end, it was impossible to keep long hair. The only thing I am doing now (also recommended in Tanaka body massage book and recommended in Chinese therapy) is combing my hair, I comb until my scalp is hot and greasy - then clean them with shampoo, I don't do hair mask, even no conditioner.
I have been doing the above for 8 years. The result is obvious: healthy hair, no grey hair and don't have to spend anything on treatment. |
