Most asian whitening lines simply use arbutin as their potent ingredient for whitening.Kojic acid on the other hand is banned to use in cosmetics in Japan.

There's others but they only help to inhibit melanin production if used continuosly. So, whitening product + sunscreen = whiter skin!

Believe me ... it's all genetics.

I've lived my entire life in the sun and beach.
    I never wear sunscreen.
I was just out sunbathing (SPF 2) in Hawai'i in August.
I eat tons of fast food (including the beloved Hawaiian Spam, portuguese sausage and loco moco)

I am now in my mid-forties with no wrinkles and just a couple of sun freckles which are fading (CPs, etc.).
Here's our Christmas photo taken earlier this week.

Rjez,

I know it has to be like the story of Dorian Gray....the more you abuse your skin the more wrinkled your DOGS will get. But you will always stay looking as gorgeous as you are now. Laughing Laughing

Seriously...it's not fair. I have so many sun spots cropping up on my face (I'm 47)!

I am Chinese, and my mother has perfect skin especially for her age. It is because she is willing to spend money on skincare, but not on makeup. She is always telling me that i shouldn't concern with the makeup products i use, but i should invest in skincare.

Japanese and Korean women Dont go out and tan in the sun!! The women try to avoid the sun because they think having white skin is more beautiful than having dark skin, that is why skin whitening is very popular over there. Not tanning would be a major reason for them not to have wrinkles (along with their genes). When asians get older though, they are more prone to age spots (thats in their genes).
Their diet is a major part in why their skin looks flawless and why Japanese ppl have the longest lifespan than any other country. They eat lots of raw fish (sushi)(fish is good to keep skin hydrated) and veggies.
As far as japanese/korean people having perfect skin... it's not true. There are tons of asians here where I live (vancouver, canada) and I see japanese/korean people everyday and many of them suffer from mild-extreme acne.

I agree with whoever said genetics... People had been complimenting my skin forever, I had bad sunburns when I was young. My diet is not great either.

And, my dad look 15 years younger than his age too, and I am sure he never used a face cream in his entire life.

I was born with very fair skin but I prefer a tanned color myself. I am 50+ now and I do suffer from melasma, though not severe.

most reason is because their eating habits
japanese and korean women is richer than chinese so they have the conditions to go to salon for expensive facial
and i hear about that japanese skincare lines is absolutely different from the european and american types Cool

Yes, I agree that Asian and Japanese women have great skin - they spend less on makeup and more on skin care products, they eat healthy foods and a lot of them have eyelid surgery (to look more white as that is really in style in China right now). One of my friends looked really good after eyelid surgery .. it looks natural and she always gets so many complements. I'm thinking of having it done myself.

Nope, nope, nope .... people, I can't stress enough ... IT IS GENETICS!!!

I am Japanese and from Hawai'i - we LIVE in the sun. My Asian friends and I would go to the beach every day and use oil all over.

I'm sure good skincare is effective - but genetics has is the biggest factor.

I've NEVER used sunscreen and tan constantly - sorry, I know this isn't good but it's cultural for me and it drives me nuts when I hear people thinking that it's eating habits, or facials, or whatever.

NO facials - I've had maybe 5 facials my entire lifetime - the last was over 2 years ago.

I've never eaten anything like ginseng. It's Hawaiian kalua pig, spam, rice & gravy, portuguese sausage and Zippy's chili. Hubby calls me "Processed Meat Queen". Not exactly health food. Maybe my eating habit preserves my body? LOL.

The only other thing that I think helps is that Hawai'i is humid. I never needed body lotion or facial moisturizer until I came to the mainland.

I think all Asians are beautiful. I find some have very strong personality and can be very aggresive and others, whom turned out to be good friends, are beautiful on the inside and out.

As for "class" that upper class do not tan, etc. I think that was in the old days and does not happen in our society. I can think of a couple of people who try hard to get their skin more white or others who accept their olive skin tone. Both are beautiful and it is a bonus that these people that I know have great personalities. Very Happy

I am Chinese. My parents are in their 60s. But they both look like 35! I do think Asian tend to look younger than westerners, but we usually have less defined facial structure. So if you are a mix, you are damn lucky (given you received the good skin and good structure gene...)!

There have been many studies showing that it is the environment that causes stress and aging of the skin. Take acne for example: There was a study done on men and women ages 15~20 and 35~45 on two different continents. One group was from New York and the other from somewhere in the rainforests. They both used the same skin care products and in the end, the people living in the rainforests received the greatest effect. Also, 0%! of the rainforest group had acne from 15~20 and 10% had any signs of wrinkles from 35~45. The subjects were of different races as well.

I believe that the skin lets out toxins. The more toxins it lets out the weaker your skin becomes because its working all the time. That why when living in North America MUCH more people have acne and develope wrinkles earlier. Genetics play a part, as well as proper skin care, but enviromental factors are I believe the most important.

Reiz you look great at your age!!! i believe it is more of genetic issue, i am chinese, i am 32 and my sister is 35, neither of us has any wrinkles. even my mum looks very young. but i do think you should wear sunscreen just to protect yourself from skin cancer if you are exposed to sun all the year.

i do however, see a lot of asians who look a lot older than their parents did at the same age. and my little cousins who pranced around in the sun as kids are developing mad freckles as teens while i don't have any. of course aging has to do with genes and habits, and as pointed out, the environment. but some are just luckier than others.

honestly, i dont think it has much at all to do with their diets. i've seen some asians with very poor diets, and others with great diets, and i don't see any magnificant difference in their skin. they all have similar bone structures, which can effect how you'll age. really i think it mostly is genetics..but i also disagree that all asians look young for their age. i have an asian friend that looks her age if not older..but it has nothing to do with skin quality..who knows.
