How long do you wait after dinner before you start your pm swishing? I'm not sure how much of an "empty stomach" you need to properly do this oil pulling method. Excited to give it a try.

30 minutes

ok. That's very manageable, I was thinking something more like 4 hrs.

Also, the article links say to use sunflower or sesame. Is there a reason you use EVOO? Is it just as or more effective?

Multi-tasking baby! Ie. in the am, I start washing my face, change a diaper, go back put serum on, make a bottle, go back put moisturizer/ss on,make sure other kids are up (I have three), make breakfast, get dressed, do makeup in the car (of course only at stoplights), etc. & I suppose I could do all of this while swishing oil in my mouth. Smile

I do my gadgets (dermawand/lightstim) while I'm in bed, right before I go to sleep, so it doesn't cut into my day.

I split taking vits into am, noon & pm. I take the am supplements at the office when I first get there so I don't forget, then at lunchtime, & in the pm, right after putting the kids to bed. I don't have any problems with the vits upsetting my stomach this way. I keep them in three 7 day a week containers to make sure I take all that I need for the day. They wouldn't all fit into one container anyway.

I realize the benefits of all of these things that I do for myself & that they will definitely pay off in the long run. So it really makes it all worth the extra effort.

It's funny how some forum communities overlap! I'm a member on CureZone as well and have been oil pulling for about a month now. The oils that you can use are not just limited to olive and sunflower. Actually, the two that were originally recommended on oilpulling.com are sesame and sunflower. Though the people over at CureZone have tried pretty much everything! I have been mostly using flaxseed, just because I like it and the Omega 3 seems to improve my mood. A lot of people like to use coconut oil, which I've tried, but it doesn't seem to make me feel any different. Of the ones that I've tried, I think (believe it or not) that castor oil is the most beneficial for me. It makes my mouth feel the most clean. And quite a few people over at CZ claims that this oil has the most teeth whitening effects. One of the most commonly experienced effects of oil pulling is actually healither teeth and gums.
For something that is so cheap and easy to do, it's pretty neat that it can do so many great things for our bodies (and our beauty!). Great to see it talked about here on EDS! Very Happy

Hey Everyone! Just thought I'd chime in here about the best types of oils you should be using to oil pull. If you want to achieve the best results your oil of choice really should be 'cold pressed' or 'refined' and not the regular kinds that you'd commonly use for cooking. So please do not bother to grab your EVOO from your kitchen cupboard unless it is also COLD PRESSED EVOO. This explains why the previous member here did not spit out a white oil after she pulled and instead found it to be yellow. My bet is she did not use a cold pressed or refined oil.

I am currently pulling with refined sesame oil and a drop of Wild Mediterranean Oil of Oregano and really liking it. Prior to this I was trying cold pressed olive oil and that was nice too. The effects of swishing on your teeth and gums are AMAZING!!! My mouth feels so incredibly clean and any problems I was having with my gums (which were bleeding slightly a few months ago) are completely resolved! Another interesting fact that some at curezone have reported is re-mineralization of teeth that have begun to decay. There are people who have been told they have a surface cavity and instead of having it drilled out they opted to oil pull for 20 minutes 2X a day for for at least one to two months (if not longer), and this apparently remineralize the bad tooth thus eliminating the decay. Decay is caused from a form of bacteria in the first place (that thrives on sugars!!), so it makes some sense that oil pulling is killing off the harmful bacteria that is causing the damage to your teeth. How the tooth is able to repopulate itself with healthy new bone is what I am most intrigued about. If this indeed works, your kids should be oil pulling too!!!

For the record, most beginners are advised to start with refined safflower oil as the process can be very detoxifying on your system when you first begin and this oil is reportedly less intensive (check outwww.oilpulling.com for more info). My expereince has been to experiment with a few oils until you find the one you like the most (just remember that any oil you buy should be cold pressed or refined).

Once I finish pulling I also spit the oil into the toilet instead of the sink because the oil you've just swished with now contains a lot of disturbing toxins that you do not want to accidentally land on a toothbrush or soap or nearby hand towel, etc. If you do spit into the sink please spray some bleach or ammonia around the basin afterwards to kill off anything that may be lingering. Again, I have read that what you are extracting from your body is actually quite toxic in nature.

Also remember to rinse your mouth with some salt water after you've pulled. This again clears out any remaining traces of toxic oil. HTH's and happy pulling! wave

I tend to use my Sonicare electric toothbrush before I pull, but I don't exactly use toothpaste. I simply want to remove anything residual on my teeth and stimulate my gums before I swish.

BTW - I forgot to mention the reason why swishing should be performed on an empty stomach. The main purpose is to avoid nausea that can ensue if you have food in your stomach and to prevent your body from working overtime as it draws out certain toxins that are contained in the gut. This is why people pull first thing in the AM before breakfast or last thing at night before bed. A good rule of thumb is to remember that it takes 3 hours for your stomach to empty of it's contents. So if you want to pull during the day just make sure your last meal was at least 3 hours earlier.

Yes, you can oil pull w/o juicing. Juicing is just an extra benefit!

Where do you buy cold pressed or refined oil? I started OP a few days ago using sunflower oil from the supermarket, but I couldnt' find any that said cold pressed or refined. It's does go white, although I agree with Snhnee that the oil only changes colour because you have emulsified it with moisture in your mouth.

Its not necessarily "Chewing" more like gargling.

Plus, that does increase facial muscles .

Hey lucyluc - I feel that you can definitely derive a lot of nutritional benefits from oil pulling, especially if you are using oils that are high in omega 3,6,9 (such as flaxseed oil to name one). However, the main purpose of swishing is to pull the nasty metals and toxins out of your body and this is why you spit it out. As for juicing, I do not partake in this practice at all and therefore do not connect it as being necessary to achieve given results. I do know many though who love juicing as a healthy way to quickly ingest a number of veggies and fruits. I think the benefits are achieved through the antioxidant effects of these foods.

Personally, I take 2 multi-vitamins daily (recommended dose on bottle) and supplement the rest of my nutritional needs with an excellent shake taken once daily that contains Greens+ powder & Proteins+ powder. I take my 2 vitamins (some drops of Oil of Oregano) and my shake in the morning as part of my breakfast and I'm done! I am not the type of person who enjoys taking lots of products or playing around with appliances because I have a low threshold for anything that feels like a chore! Wink So I've simplified my routine a lot and really like it, I also feel great! Cool

Oil pull before you do ANYTHING.

This implies that you are using toothpaste when brushing, which I do not. I simply take my Sonicare and move it over my teeth and gums before I oil pull. It's a matter of personal preference, I suppose.

However, the protocol does stipulate you not brush your teeth using conventional methods (toothpaste) before pulling, so thank-you for clarifying this point as I see I wasn't clear enough about this. Wink

DianaP - try your local health food stores. This is where I found a large selection of cold pressed and refined oils. I have also had luck finding cold pressed olive oil at the supermarket, but not much else.

Hi there! I do not chew or gargle at all because I don't want any toxins near the back of my throat (in case I accidentally ingest some Shock ). I tend to use my tongue and swish the oil around the front and sides of my mouth or pull the oil gently through my teeth. There is no way I over extend my facial muscles doing this, so I promise you that developing wrinkles is not a concern! Wink

I have lovely skin and no condition to speak of <she says with puffed up chest and lots of pride! Wink >. I initially began to oil pull because I had issues with my teeth and wanted to approach my dental concerns holistically. Once I discovered that oil pulling had been hailed as a very successful way to improve oral hygiene and whiten teeth naturally, I decided to research it further and see if there were other benefits. This lead to the discovery that people were overcoming chronic health issues as a result of swishing, so the effects of removing toxins and metals from your body are multi-faceted. Not only does the oil help to kill off bad bacteria in your mouth, it also kills off the bacteria that is causing other systemic issues (such as arthritis, fatigue, aching muscles and ECZEMA to name a few). There is actually a lot of research being done now that indicates that most chronic health problems are links to Candida and highly toxic bacteria that resides in your mouth and enters your bloodstream causing havoc slowly but surely in other areas of your body. This is another reason why I add a drop or two of Oil of Oregano to my refined sesame oil before I swish as this powerful herb has been officially studied and proven to kill off the worst types of bacteria & fungi that exist on the planet!!!

I could go on and on about OPing and herbs, but I don't want to hijack your thread! Of course if you want to know more ask away!!!

thank You

Well i oil pull b/c I have dark circles. The oil pulling reduced them alot! I tried many creams and nothing seemed to work.

I was told that dark circles and puffy eyes are from toxic and of course parasites as well as candida.

Im also doing a parasite cleanse taking HumaWorm herbs for 30-days.

Im 10 pds. underweight and I was told that parasites are eating my nutrients.

No doubt that toxins and parasites are affecting your dark circles. I've also heard that dark circles are caused by allergies that you may not be aware of (?). Oil pulling has helped many people overcome sinus and allergy problems, so you may be receiving additional benefits and not know it! Either way, I am happy to learn that OP'ing has really improved this problem for you!

It also sounds as if you need to try some Oil of Oregano and Black Cumin Seed oil to help you attack these parasite issues once and for all! I swear to you Tasha, these oils are totally amazing and if you follow a certain protocol you will definitely feel better within 30 days (if not sooner!). Though the products you're taking right now for detoxing are fine, they are not strong enough to really eradicate all of the bacteria/fungi/parasites from your system. You really need to take something much stronger (like the OoO & BCS oils) for 6 to 9 months if you really want to kill off these insidious beasts that are skilled at hiding in your body (or can build up an immunity to all of the standard anti-parasite products). I know there is a lot of material to wade through on the Candida thread in the Lounge, but please check it out as I think you'll find some very valuable info that will help you regain your weight and get your health back on track the way you'd like it! I'd also be happy to share any info I can with you about detoxing & fighting Candida, so please feel free to PM me if you'd like!
