Hi jasminerosey,
this marshmallow herb sound very interesting, - how do you purchase yours ? is it as a dried herb ? only I have had a quick look on the web, and alot are in a tincture which contain alcohol,
thanks
Jackie xx |
For the dried herb I would check mountian rose herbs or iherb, for an extract without alcohol just google "marshmallow root extract alcohol free" and there are many sellers listed.

thanks DM
I wonder if just opening a capsule of marshmallow extract and putting in a smoothie would suffice ?

Jackie,
If you have them on hand you might as well try that out. I just think in the long run the extract in liquid would be easiest.

Sister Sweets,
the herb i use is the cut and shifted marshmallow root from Mountain Rose herbs. The 'intense' part is the way i make the infusion. about 3/4 cup of root in a mason jar with 1 quart of boiling water, seal the lid tightly and wait 4-8 hours. it's also possible to bring a qrt of water to boil in a pot, add your marshmallow root and cover the pot..the heavier the pot the better..but anuy with a tight fitting lid will do.
it's gelantinous (but so are chia seeds!)...so i usually add mine to other herbal infusions..or to my chia seed/rosehip/nutmilk/spirulina 'pudding'...but it can also be added to fruit or veggie juices or smoothies...the cooler it is the more gelantinous..it's this quality that makes it also soothing for the digestive system..so it's usually recommended to drink at room temp or slightly cool rather than warm
it is one of the few moisturizing herbs (many of them are diuretic and therefore drying to the skin) and is also cooling to the body. i really notice a dif in my skin when i drink it. please let me know, if you decide to try it, how it effects your skin. (you may not need the hydrating quality as much as i do)
(it's also high in calcium, magnesium and other nutrients..in avery highly assimilatable form) |

You might try a simple skin test with your liquid on the inside of your wrist or elbow and see if it causes redness and itching. I know when my kids were small and took liquid antibiotics which were at times spit back out on my hands I would have that reaction until I washed it off, any that I am allergic to which are quite a few!

Tash,
getchia.com has great chia inexpensively. Their 3 lb bag of black chia seed(they call it 'conventional' because it's not certified 'organic' but state that it is actually grown organically nontheless...they also have more expensive and certified organic chia seeds ) costs something like $27 and i believe it ships for free in the USA. |

Jasmine- Yes, you inspired me to try chia seeds and next time i will look into the website.
now i have the chia seed soaking in almond milk to make pudding do you let it soak overnight or hours?...how do you prepare marshmallows tea to receive the *gelatin* benefits?
and with the chia seeds have you noticed any benefits with hair ? i read that chia seeds can help regulate thyroid in a good way |

Tasha, i usually soak the chia seeds in H2O first and then add the gel (which includes the seeds) to the almond milk. Personally I like to soak them at least 12 hours..but i think that is a personal taste.
Please let me know how the pudding works out adding the dry seeds directly to the almond milk. |

ok oops..lol. i will let it sit overnight and see how it comes out with the seeds already in the almond milk. so the tea doesnt need too much prep? i remember on one of your post about letting the tea create gelatin first? |

i use the cut and shifted marshmallow root, rather than the marsmallow root powder. The way i make the infusion is to put about 3/4 cup of the root in a mason jar with 1 quart of boiling water, seal the lid tightly and wait 4-8 hours. it's also possible to bring a qrt of water to boil in a pot, add your marshmallow root and cover the pot..the heavier the pot the better..but any pot with a tight fitting lid will do.
usually i get one more batch from the marshmallow 'dregs'
so..after using the gelatinous liquid tea from the first batch..i boil 4 cups of water (or less..just do this intuitively since the tea will be less gelantinous, flavorful and mineral-rich in the second batch so you may to add less water to get a richer tea)
add the dregs and simmer very very low until it appears to be a viabley rich enough tea (30 minures to an hour) |

just to what feels right..it is actually very sweet..it has an very high mineral content...but because it is so concentrated (which adds to its mineral richness) its also sweet..i have no idea what the 'sugar' content is...but i am sensitive to sugary substances in general SO not really attracted to them 'straight'..so i usually add the marshmallow root tea to other teas or use it in the chia/almond milk pudding or just add it to a nut or seed milk with some vanilla (and maybe some whole leaf stevia extract)... it still is one of my favorite substances for hydration/ facial plumpness ..and digestive soothingness.
back to chia there are a lot of dif recipes for soaking chia seeds..i like 1 part chia seed to 11 parts H2O |

I'm glad to see this info resurrected. Due to JR I am a spirulina fan and also use chlorella. I love health force products - use their green powders and a few others. (Not all of these on the same day and I rotate). I also love PP barley. I use either barley or wheat grasses in the morning - first thing with my alkalinized, ionized, magnetized ( ) water.
I never did get the marshmallow though; I'm back to being inspired to try it. I love chia seeds - they are yummy to me.
I wonder what happened to Hermosa's spirulina experiment. I have used several different brands but I think I'd go back to Pure Planet (or try the health force brand). Right now I have nutrex. |

Jasmine- so I let it sit for 12 + hours and I can taste the chia seeds "gelatin" the overall combination isn't hard like as pudding but I can taste the difference in the chia seeds. |

Very interesting topic, I am already including spirulina and chia seeds in my green smoothies but I do need to try and do them every day or as much as possible.
I am currently trying to lose rather a lot of weight and at 36 I am worried about the impact it will have on my face and my skin as a whole.
I do recall reading here about Wakame being one of the reasons japanese women age so well because it supports the collagen and elastin in the skin.
Also I believe white tea is especially great for your skin in terms of keeping it smooth and plump because it protects it from the breakdown of collagen and elastin.
There is a lot about foods and processes to induce fresh collagen production but how is it possible to to induce elastin via nutrition or treatments?
Also I recently say my aunt who is 62 and apart from some lines round her eyes her skin was incredibly tight and plump, remarkable considering she is a very fair redhead who used only basic creams. She is a little over weight but mainly is is just her tummy sticking out after 5 children.
Like a lot of women who I notice age really well she loves to cook and always cooked with fresh ingrediants from scratch most days for her family. She never smoked but her she was exposed to smoke daily (her husband) and she drank a little red wine. I really think that diet, what you eat and eating home cooked whole foods are such a huge part to having a plumped up face. |

marshmallow has gelatin and also supports our hyaluronic acid levels, which boosts moisture levels in the skin. and keep it plump ..a win-win....and chia seeds also has gelatin |

Yes marshmallow root sounds great, I also have read about grass fed gelatin from cows or fish having good skin benefits as well. There are powders in hydrolyzed gelatin form and they are very popular in Japan for skin. |

I like Krill Oil (low mercury), green juices and matcha green tea.
Do you gals consume raw cacao tea too? It has numerous health benefits for the whole body and especially the skin. |
