I also love the book and the lotion mask. The few times I tried it my skin was so fresh and supple, like when I was much younger.

I just wish there were more hours in a day...

Skippie, what material are you using with the lotion mask? I bought the plan full sheet masks, but they are not sticking to my face and are falling off, so I am looking for something that would hold the product in!

Has anyone tried high quality paper towels?

That's a great idea, but I wonder if they would be stretchy enough to pull tight and have them stick?

Years ago I was told not to use paper towels on the face in any capacity - the reason was that it contains some particles which may be too abrasive and can damage the skin.

I bought the cottons recommended in the book from amazon, and they seem to be fine. Before that I used plain cheese cloth, that was also fine. I know it is being used in professional spas (medical grade I would guess), but I used what I had at home.

Thanks sigma. I do remember being told not to use a paper towel to wipe ones skin due to the abrasiveness, but I don't know if the particles could cause damage just sitting on the skin? Nevertheless, I will avoid them just in case. I'll dig through the thread to see what product from the book was recommended.

Riley,

She recommends Webril cotton pads in the book. I'm actually using cotton mats that I bought at Sally's Beauty Supply. They're used by manicurists. I cut them into pieces. Sally's also sells some of the Webril products, I think.

Thanks so much, Skippie. You saved me digging back through the thread. Do they "stick" on your face well? I bought 30 of the plain sheet masks but like I said they don't stay on my face! Laughing

According to what I was taught in school paper towels, tissues and even toilet paper are harsh on the skin because like all paper products they are made from wood pulp which would cause micro tears on the skin! I agree Riley I doubt that would be an issue just sitting on the face, but also don't see how they would stretch as you said!

I want to order the book, as it seems to be quite interesting!

Thanks Skippie for letting us know what is actually recommended!

I did buy this book, havana, and love it. I faithfully use the lotion mask which is one of her big recommendations. She spends a lot of time talking about massage and facial exercise and how to correctly remove makeup. She also helps you find your skintype and then gives routines for your skintype depending on the seasons. I definitely think the book is worth the money. I need to buy a water bottle to try her water massage, now that you've brought the book back to mind.

Re 'lotions', I remember when Shisheido was first released, they used cleanser, lotion, moisturiser and toner in that order. (Yes I'm that old!!) The toner was supposed to 'set' the moisturiser in the skin. I always found it a bit strange. They still have a softener prior to moisturiser, but no longer have the toner afterwards (I think).

So I guess (as many have said)the lotion or softener is used with a cloth of sorts. I'm still not sure which is the best cloth or paper to sue though. What about a muslin cloth?

luckylouie recommended a cotton men's handkerchief which I think is a wonderful idea. I'm going to try that when I run out of the cotton pads I'm currently using.

It's a bit hard to find cotton handkerchiefs these days although I guess men's ones are easier to find. I guess you could also buy some soft cotton fabric and cut it up into shapes to fit your face and neck (don't forget the neck!!). It would probably be cheaper.

I was thinking of 100% cotton napkins as an alternative if the hankies turn out to be hard to find??

Muslin is a good idea. It is extremely inexpensive and all cotton.

From what I've noted of the procedure, I think it's important for the fabric to have some give - not stretchy fabric, but I think you have to be able to stretch the fabric over the skin. Of course, I haven't tried it yet, but from looking at the videos that's the conclusion I've come too. Maybe, those old fashioned bandages would do.

I'm not sure if this would be an option, but the Liz Earle pure muslin cloths have very slight give without being stretchy. They are also fairly inexpensive at 2 for $6 and 6 for $15. I like them a lot.

I just remembered that Kassy had suggested to me sometime ago that medical cotton gauze - the stretchy kind - might be a good option and gave me this link: http://www.exmed.net/product.asp?dept_id=1486%26pf_id=AMRA05X

I just clicked the link and got the message "the product you requested is not available"? I know there are a lot of online medical suppliers if you google, and I have medical specialty pharmacies all around, I am sure most would carry it!
Thanks Skippie!
