What has been posted by Lacy is what I find troubling there is much more information pertaining to use as an internal vaginal cream. I don't see much at all anywhere about how that translates to use on the face, if the amount of absorption is the same or not?
I know some woman on conventional HRT use a trans-dermal patch, is this made to act in a similar manner? I am just not sure and until I speak with my doctor I personally won't risk using it.

Here's another contradiction:
my df whose a naturpath tells me that her experience is that her patients who use hormonal creams when they come to her have hormone levels way above the norm (we were specifically speaking about progesterone creams\..but i believe she was indicating this is tru for hormoinal cream in general)......she believes that the way the bdy uses the creams are unreliable..even though the cream itself contains a certain amount of hormone per dosage.

the contradiction is that i thought that creams were supposed to be more reliable than oral dosage since they by pass the liver/etc involved in assimilating the hormone.

I am currently receiving treatment from my OB-GYN for perimenopausal symptoms, so I am already getting consistently tested for hormone levels, because I think that is an important part of this.

Page 33 of Dr. Baummann's Cosmetic Dermatology book lists a whole bunch of studies on hormones and hormones related to skin aging. Her book is searchable through Google - so you can just go there via your browser and read her chapter on hormones & skin and look at the studies and it may help you decide what, if anything to do and usually with guidance from your own doctor.

At my request, my gyn (who specializes in menopause) prescribed estradiol cream for me to use topically on my face and hands. She was quite clear that is is off-label use but is by no means unusual. She uses it herself for this purpose. According to her, the cream is too strong to use without dilution and should ideally be diluted at a ratio of 10:1 and never less than 5:1. I am currently on hrt and the addition of the cream at this dilution has not changed my schedule for hormonal blood testing.

So what percentage of estradiol is in the cream - is it 0.3%? Isn't there a difference between estradiol and estriol?

Here is what I found, quick search! Smile

http://www.aeron.com/estradiol.htm

Estradiol
Estradiol is the most potent estrogen of a group of endogenous estrogen steroids which includes estrone and estriol. In women estradiol is responsible for growth of the breast and reproductive epithelia, maturation of long bones and development of the secondary sexual characteristics. Estradiol is produced mainly by the ovaries with secondary production by the adrenal glands and conversion of steroid precursors into estrogens in fat tissue.

yes there is a big dif between estradiol and estriol..

but it's really interesting to me Cuddles, that even with using estradiol (at the 10:1 ratio) your hormone levels haven't been effected.

i'm also interested in what % of the estradiol is...do you add it to a cream or oil to dilute it?

There is quite a bit of information here.

I don't think Cuddles said her hormone levels haven't been affected by using estradiol cream on her face. She said her schedule for hormonal blood testing hasn't changed.

As far as I can tell, there are 2 different Estradiol creams used/prescribed for vaginal use. There may also be generics available also (I am not sure about patent protection).

The first is Estrace (estradiol vaginal cream, USP, 0.01%); each gram of cream contains 0.1 mg estradiol in a nonliquefying base. The usual dosage range is 2 to 4 g (marked on the applicator) daily for one or two weeks, then gradually reduced to one half initial dosage for a similar period. A maintenance dosage of 1 g, one to three times a week, may be used after restoration of the vaginal mucosa has been achieved.

The second cream containing estradiol is Premarin Vaginal Cream (actually it contains conjugated estrogens). Each gram of Premarin Vaginal Cream contains 0.625 mg of conjugated estrogens, USP in a nonliquefying base. Dosage varies depending on symptom being treated (both in terms of application schedule and amount used).

You can read more here:

http://www.rxlist.com/estrace-vaginal-cream-drug.htm

http://www.rxlist.com/premarin-vaginal-cream-drug.htm

Both creams come with a long list of health warnings. As previously mentioned, Estradiol is not the same as Estriol. The use of Estradiol for the face is considered off-label usage, but some women do have approval from their doctors to use it in this way. I am not sure where you are getting the 0.3% from Keliu?

I believe earlier Keliu posted that while searching the web for sellers she came across both 1% and 3% Estriol for sale.

The cream is .1%. BTW, I have my hormone levels checked quarterly. Personally, I mix the cream into my face cream Using this at a 10:1 concentration (I use a lower concentration) and using this as a face cream I am spreading the equivalent of 1 day's dose (as presribed for vaginal use) over a 2+ week period. It is not the same as using a full dose daily which would obviously have a greater effect on hormone levels. I made the decision to use the cream at a diluted concentration after consulting with my gyn who specialized in menopause medicine--both BHRT and conventional HRT. I would recommend consulting with a menopause specialist before using this or any hormone cream. I hope this clears up any misunderstandings about my prior post.

The proof is in the pudding http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=363691&l=d74acf897a&id=100000749601819 I have no foundation or face makeup other than sunscreen and eye makeup. I only had the lower half of my face done with an eye peel nothing done to my skin. I completely believe in the Retin a, esteriol cream, cp's and dermarolling. Nice skin for a 60 year old! Very Happy Laughing

I am stalking you! Kidding. Laughing Ok, what do you mean you had your lower face done with an eye peel? And, again, your skin is gorgeous! How long have you been on the Estriol cream with the other things you use? Very Happy

We are playing tag!! I had a lower face lift with a deep eye peel for bags and to promote collegen in June. But I have never done anything cosmetically to my skin. I have used the Ra for about a year or so but the esteriol was maybe a 6mo. at best addition. the Dermarolling and Cp's are only about 2 months old. I am really amazed at the results of the addition of the cp's , or maybe it is the dermarolling or combo of both, but I have Rosacia, and my skin has never looked this good.I have always worn foundation to cover it, now I have naked skin!!!

I know for me I am not doubting it's effective as an anti-aging agent (can't get your pic?) I have known women who used an estrogen cream with great results.
It's about risk factors for each individual and I will discuss this with my doctor. Blood clots are a personal worry for me. Smile

Thanks, rmc7. I appreciate the info. You really have gorgeous skin. I would never have thought you had rosacea from your photo, so that is equally impressive!

I need more info.

You are applying Retin-A and then using a Dermaroller? I thought this was a no no. What size Dermaroller are you using?

"Spread wet hands over face" - what's this about?

What moisturiser are you using?

Thanks!

After I clean my face I use the CP serum then my RA .25 roller. When I'm done I wet my hands slightly and rub the water over my face to thin and drive in any remaining product into the channels (I actually got all this info on how to do this on this site)My moisturizer is really basic it is Elta Md. Then once every 4 weeks I use the the Dermaroller that I think is 1.5 with no products on my skin. That lower face lift is Known by several names. QuickLift, minilift, it is not the thread lift it is a real cut an pull but the technique is different. I think you can access the info from the site where my picture is posted. That is The Skin Center where I had it done. But to caution everyone about my routine. As DARKMOON wisely states,If you have ANY health issues check with your DR. my esteriol cream came from a doctor be careful with what you use.

rmc7,

I get to speak with my doctor tomorrow, so we shall see? It's funny in a way that being the opposite of anemic in this case is a negative health issue! Shock
I agree it is something anyone considering should consult with their MD. Smile
