I have to look into the tea extracts! (on top of the continued view into the soy extracts!)
For deeper rolls, my post-roll serum is oil based, so anything I add needs to be oil soluble.
For my penetration rolls, I use all sorts of topicals - hormone cream, mild glycolic acid, lot.

Once you get past it, like a lot of things...you get used to it - especially with the shortest needles.
With the longer (1 - 1.5) - I still struggle with the concept of actually *pushing* the needles into my skin...it goes against human nature to inflict pain on oneself, lol - that's why I am currently looking at the personal use DermaPen or similar device from Bellaire. I like the fact that the motor would do it for me - helping to get over that hurdle...also faster and covering more skin areas.

I get your point exactly BFG,
I have an incredible pain threshold birth with no drugs at all, but it is the inflicting pain on yourself that seems difficult!
I think the Dermapen looks intriguing I just wonder what is the best way to get one's feet wet if you will? |

The tea extracts are all water soluble unfortunately, at least all I have come across! |

I've been using the Lyapko Roller am and pm and have noticed something interesting. When I did my last Dermaroll, I barely felt it!! And I didn't use any anesthetic cream. Now the Lyapko Roller does not pierce the skin like a Dermaroller, it only massages. But it does have spikes and when I started using it, it was a bit unpleasant. Now it doesn't bother me at all. But I was shocked when the Dermaroller didn't hurt. Could it be that the Lyapko Roller is thickening the skin??
For those who are too scared to use a Dermaroller straight off, this could be a good introduction to get your skin primed! Note: I'm not recommending the Lyapko for product penetration - just massage. |

Interesting, it sounds like you may be correct about thickening of the skin?
Where does one find the Lyapko Roller?
All suggestions on brand and size of a regular roller to start of with welcome...please?
Something tells me I may be jumping on the rolling train soon! |

I have both Vaculift & Lyapko Roller and prefer the former for blood circulation.
I feel hurt when using the roller on the forehead but feel nothing on my face. |

Hi, I started out with 1.5 roller. I have acne scars. If you don't have scarring, why not start out with a .5? Get used to the sensation of rolling your face. You do get used to it.
I'm very interested in Dermapen. |

WOW! Mars you went straight to the big guns!
That seems like great advice, start small and work up. Thanks.
Lucky on the scars, I do not have any. |

Here's the Lyapko Roller. THIS IS NOT A DERMAROLLER so will not induce the wound healing cascade or be useful for product penetration. But it's great for massage. Think all the other claims made about it are bunkum though.
I'm definitely interested in hearing any reports on the Dermapen. I thought it was only available to professional clinics. |

I was thinking of getting both a real roller and the Lyapko Roller? I know I am slow but think it is time.
I would love to hear about the Dermapen, a member did post a link to another similar device on the Dermapen thread that BFG started. |

I would love to have one of these. It's not inexpensive though. |

Hi, I am new - and I just bought my 1st dermaroller (0.5mm). I uses Skinceuticals Phloretin CF after rolling and I get this burning sensation and really does sting, has anyone experienced this? Is this normal?
Also, I found this youtube clip (sorry new members can't post external links) that suggest we to use a Oxygen cream after rolling, they recommended Chiroxy. I found a similar product in Ebay called "Strictly Professional Oxygenating Hi Frequency Cream". I am thinking of using Oxygen cream after rolling then maybe apply my serum after.
I would really appreciate your feedback, thanks. |

How much is it?
I really like the look of this, but I'm a sucker for any gadget. However, for us home users, I'm sure a standard Dermaroller is just as effective. |

I have always believed the primary purpose of cosmetic needling has been to increase product penetration and while there's no doubt that it accomplishes that, I was interested to read the following in Dr. Setterfield's book:
"Cosmetic needling achieves results through increased quantities and access of cell nutrients to the skin, thus optimizing cell function. In addition, injury to the keratinocytes (essential encrypted messaging system) promotes epidermal growth factor and increases cell turnover."
Similar statements are made elsewhere in the book. He promotes the use of cosmetic rolling on a daily basis.

So are you saying that you've never been completely confident of needling stimulating collagen growth through injury?
I wonder what cell nutrients are - are they formed from the skin being damaged?
Is he advocating a .25mm roller for daily rolling? |

First, we need to make the distinction between cosmetic needling and medical needling - all needle length dependent. This thread was started as a thread for the short needles, hence my post this morning.
Cell nutrients refer to the orals and topicals taken/used to enhance results.
For daily use, he recommends needles between .2 and .3 in length.

Ok, gotcha!!
Personally, I like a 0.5mm roller. Apparently it's long enough for collagen stimulation and short enough not to be too much drama. I use this about once a week. |

I have just done my second small roll .25mm for product penetration.
In my arrogance I thought as I am fairly used to
1mm (8wkks apart) rolls I wouldn't really feel these ones.
HA HA still did, not half as sore, but still was red and stingy, with products both rolling in and after was pretty tingly
It does feel good though I don't think I could really go up to every day as the book says.
I want to leave the W/e with nothing to give my face a rest.
Hope Im not overkilling it
This could become quite addictive maybe Im a tad masochistic |

Interesting - I think i read on the owndoc website that you should only dermaroll for product penetration a few times a week.
I have a short roller I use for product penetration and I have to still psych myself up for it. My skin is red and irritated for hours.
I am either "rolling in" GHK serum or GOW Chock Full of Vitamins (with A and C).
Thanks for the info BFG!

Didn't we have a discussion some time ago about 0.5 mm rollers and whether or not they could induce collagen?
Somehow I feel that any kind of handling that tricks the skin into feeling 'under attack' can have such effects (some stronger, some weaker). After all, people also report skin thickening and tightening from dry skin brushing and intensive massage! |

With all these threads lately on dermarolling, I've dragged my 0.5 out of retirement and have started using it again. I'm planning to do weekly rolls with the AnteAGE products.
I did the first one 5 days ago. I used both the AnteAGE serum and the accelerator after rolling. No issues with it, both sunk in smoothly with no itching or stinging.
I loved Keliu's comment about the 0.5 not being too much "drama"! I totally agree, I'm still trying to decide if I want to "up the ante" and go with a longer roller - either 1.0 or 1.5mm. I'm just not convinced the 0.5 generates much collagen - at least I didn't notice much a year ago when I did about 6-8 weekly treatments. Maybe with this serum I'll get more out of it??? |

Shasta,
My thoughts: Less is more, but make it count.
My 0.5 mm and the spare set...are in retirement. Too much hassle and prep and the pain is not much different than the 1.5 mm. To myself at any rate. I turn bright cherry red for hours with 0.5 or 1.5 mm [ the 1.5 obviously quite a bit worse as I tend to really give it a thorough roll. ]
Once every 6 weeks, I can take it.
Every week to 2 x /wk?
Pass.
Ultrasound for the bi/ weekly maintenance is my penetration enhancer of choice with the same added benefits of collagen up regulation and cytokine kick start. Skin laxity , exfoliator all rolled into one painless under 10 minute treatment. Mind you, I load the gel like no body's business.

Same. And the healing/ irritation redness / stinging that comes with the post roll fun and games, resolved far more quickly for me. |
