Does anyone know why it has to be reformulated? Is it because of the separation problem happened before? |
That is my understanding. |
Thanks bethany, so we will not be able to have it for months? I also want to incorporate a Vit. C serum (Skinceuticals CE Ferulic indeed) in the ZO regime. Do you know if I should apply during the day before Daily Power Defense or at night before Radical Night Repair? |
I'm not sure how long it will be until we see RNR again...if you need another time-released 1% retinol in the interim, feel free to PM me.
As far as the Vit C is concerned....keep in mind that RNR already has Vit C in it, so you don't need to use it separately.. But if you do, you would want to apply in the AM for enhanced sun protection. You could apply in the PM, but I personally didn't have luck applying RNR over ANY other topical (and I tried several). |

Vanillapops, you do apply the Skinceuticals C, E, Ferulic in the morning before the Daily Power Defense. The SC should be the first thing on your skin, and then you can apply your other products on top of that. C is usually used in the morning for the added sun protection. |

Thanks bethany. I may try to use my 0.1% tretinoin more frequently when I run out of the RNR. Anyway I have just started and will see. I hope I don't like the RNR so I don't need to buy that again and save a lot of $$$
Regarding Vit. C, since I don't know the percentage of Vit. C in RNR, I want to add a separate Vit. C serum to my ZO regime. I have done laser facials and was told that using Vit. C serum afterwards will help enhancing the results. |

Thanks rileygirl, will use SC CE Ferulic in the am. Do you use a separate Vit. C serum? |

I was told that the Daily Power Defense contains Vitamin C but I don't see anything in the ingredient list that would indicate that. Can anyone tell me which ingredient in the DPD is vitamin C? Thanks |

That's what I thought, thanks. I'm a little disappointed, it was a rep. for ZO that told me it had Vit. C. Are you still using this product rileygirl and what do you think of it? |

I am still waiting for an answer to the application of the sunscreen. Is it smoothed on or is it rubbed in.
I am really interested in this because I would like to understand how a product with actives that need to penetrate the skin can co-exist with a sunscreen ingredient that needs to sit on top of the skin to work. |

Yes, but does it contain peptides? |

No, but that appears to be the only difference. Many of the other ZO products contain peptides and are supposed to be rubbed in, so I don't think rubbing will hurt the peptides in this instance. I now rub my sunscreen in...whether I am using the Oclipse or the alternate brand.
Bushy, if you hear that we should not be rubbing it in, please let me know! |

I wouldn't worry about it. The skin on your lips is more sensitive than that on your face. I think a slight sting can be expected with the RNR. |

I was at the SF event. Here is a summary of what he said:
Moisturizer is bad. It has a detrimental effect and should only be used occassionally, especially when you have a change in climate. Like if you go skiing and your skin gets dry and rough use moisturizer.
Vitamin A is the only ingredient that will help with anti-aging. Skin care should be based on function (as his products are)-vitamin A wakes up cells.
A blue peel every 4-5 years keeps skin young forever. He had his 46 year old wife with him (he is 65 - and looks great!) who had just had a blue peel a few weeks ago and her skin was flawless. He said he gets a blue peel every 4-5 years.
Sunscreen should be applied every hour.
Hot water accelerates aging.
As expected, he was heavily selling his products and his recommendation is to cleanse with one of his cleansers, scrub with his scrub, use Daily Power Defense and his sunscreen. He says his sunscreen is unique because it has melanin.
Exfoliation is very important it's important to use a scrub.
When you put products on, rub them vigorously into your skin, don't massage gently as we're taught. But, he does think facial massage is good. And slap your face to wake up cells.
Acids, like glycolic and salicyic are good occassionally as a peel. They help temporarily get rid of surface pigmentation.
Those are the main points I remember. |

Thanks for that recap, jom. Very interesting. Did he happen to say why he felt hot water accelerated aging? |

I don't remember specifically but I think it was because it robs skin of moisture and causes skin to become dry. Something like that. |

I am a big fan of Dr. Obagi, but if he said that his sunscreen is unique because it has melanin, then he's wrong. MelaShade is virtually identical, and widely sold under a bunch of private label names.
But if he said that his sunscreen is unique because it has melanin AND peptides, I would go for that. I haven't found one with both yet. |

I only remember him saying the melanin, he could have said peptides too, I just don't remember. Just curious, do you know which one came first ZO or Melashade? |

I asked that very question, and was told that ZO came first, but Dr. O had not wanted to pay to make the formula exclusive.
But whoever came up with the idea to combine a mattifying primer with a sunscreen is a genius in my book. I just wish they could come up with a lighter color formulation! |

The price of the Melashade, $45, is much more reasonable than what they were originally charging for the ZO. Maybe that's why ZO has their sunscreen on special now. All in all I think the ZO products are good, but they are definately overpriced. |

Does this mean that we have to "re"-apply sunscreen every single hour? I am using the ZO sunscreen and don't always reapply until the end of the day as I work in an office. Sometimes I do reapply before I go out for lunch if it is sunny that day. Am I doing something wrong? Should I reapply sunscreen more often even if I stay indoor most of the day? |

I would assume that you would reapply only if you were out in the sun. I certainly don't reapply sunscreen every hour in my normal office life. Just my opinion, but I don't think you are doing anything wrong, and I don't think you need to continually reapply if you are indoors most of the day. |
