I am 39 years old and have had oily skin since I was a teenager. However, at 39 I would have to say that it is oilier now than it has ever been in my life. I can't help but think it's hormone-related but I don't know how to combat it. I've tried using prescription OC lotion, Proactiv Daily Oil Control and Freshface Primer non of which have helped control the oil from seeping through my makeup. I have used every oil-free foundation you can think of and am now trying mineral foundations. So far, no luck. Can anyone relate to this?? And does anyone have any suggestions?? Thanks so much!

Yeah! It took years to figure this one out I always thought I had oily skin but I don't! The more oil controlling products I used the more my skin overproduced oil to compensate.! I have since sworn off all products that control oil. Use a mild cleanser and the lightest moisturizer for around the eye and mouth area that you can find. Thats all you need. HTHs. |

Have you tried any products that contain silica in them?
Neutrogena has a silica based product that leaves a matte finish. I am not exactly sure about how long it lasts...I only used it a few times during humid summer days. |

Hi Robinp,
I have generally pretty oily skin (t-zone), and I also found that using TONS of oil-free products made the condition worse (if your face is deprived of oil, it will produce more to compensate).
The trick is not to revert to a whole bunch of regular products, of course. I use Proactiv Cleanser for my acne and I follow with Yonka Lotion (toner). I spot treat areas with either Yonka Juvenil or Tea Tree Oil, and then I follow with
1) Active Moist by Dermalogica OR
2) Pamplemousse by Yonka
Both of these aren't really greasy -- they're for oily-prone skin. I think the Active Moist is actually "oil free" but it's not as drying as other "matte" lotions, etc. I also use Bare Escentuals minerals as foundation. I'm not sure if there are a lot of "oils" in it, but maybe you can try switching to a non-oil-free foundation to test your skin out.
