Well, here I am sitting at home on a Friday night. Before you say it, I *do* actually have a life, it's just that it's so hot and humid at the moment that the air-conditioned comfort of one's own home is the best place to be :P
I've tried a few different products over the past few weeks and I was just wondering what other people have been testing out?
Here's what I've been up to on the cosmetics/skincare front:
Thalgo Marine Collagen Cream (sample) - a very nice moisturising cream, which my skin was quite grateful for since the air-con's been on all night the past week or so. It has a faint nice smell and is quite moisturising. Seeing as it is summer here, and very humid at the moment, I would not use this on my normal/combo skin during the day. However it might be a nice winter option for me.
Sothys Purifying Foaming Gel (sample) - a clear gel that you massage on dry skin with dry hands (to the best of my understanding) and then emusify with water. I think this it a good cleanser, though in the end I still prefer the YonKa Gel Nettoyant, mainly because of the smell (the Sothys has a nice faint smell though). The Sothys cleanser is also gentle, non drying, and fine to use around the eyes (no stinging). It also removed makeup well.
MD Formulations Facial Cleanser (with glycolic acid) - a fragrance-free whiteish cleansing gel/cream. I couldn't tell you if it's fine for use around the eye area 'coz I wasn't game to try it after I read "...glycolic acid" Because of that, I used eye makeup remover first (Phytomer Face Dew ) and then used the cleanser on the rest of my face. I actually found this a tad drying. However, I have a 30mL bottle of this so I will use this for a while and see what I think. I have actually heard really good things about this cleanser and preventing blackheads and pimples. I guess we'll see....
DDF Non-Drying Gentle Cleanser (sample) - this is a slightly blue/green tinted cleansing lotion. Again, it did well on the makeup removal front but this one actually stung a little when I got some in my eye. And before you say anything, no, poking myself in the eye with cleanser is not part of my 'cleanser testing' regime. I'm just trying to find out which cleanser will double as an eye makeup remover. When I use cleanser to remove eye makeup I almost always get some in my eye, if not the actual cleanser then water with some cleanser residue. Apart from the slight (and it was very slight!) stinging when it got in my eye, the cleaner is actually nice and gentle. Doesn't feel drying at all.
*****
The naughty things I bought this week (naughty 'coz I didn't really need them *blushes*):
CD Addict Ultra Gloss in "A Taste of Strawberry" - very happy with this. Nice glitter (of the classier kind, if such a kind of glitter exists). The lip gloss is not as sticky as some others I have but still has decent staying power. I'm currently using this over some Burt's Bees lipstick and the resulting colour is great!
Clinique Quickliner (for lips) in "Bamboo" - I've read reviews of this particular shade, and I have to agree with them. It trully is a great neutral shade. The lipliner itself is great (this was a repurchase but in a different shade). Thoughtcrime - this has SYNTHETIC beeswax. Does that mean you can use it or not? If so then I highly recommend it, it's soft and doesn't tug at skin at all. What on earth is synthetic beeswax???
MMU Body Souffle moisturiser - I stumbled onto MMU Cosmetiques (it's Canadian I think) by chance a few weeks ago. Since then I've got a little collection going of the Body Souffles (they scent them for you, there's *so* many scents to chose from plus you can make your own). I've got: Cinnamon Vanilla, Cinnamon Bun Bons, Brown Sugar & Spice (this one is not so good actually....), and Mexican Chocolate (yum!). These are lovely and I'm sure I'll get some more eventually. The only thing I'm not happy about are MMU's international shipping prices. Anyhoo, you can chose if you want your moisturiser (or lip balm, shower gel, hand cream, foot cream etc etc) scented lightly, medium, or strong. Of course, I went for strong. These are very nice to put on at night before going to bed. If you wanted to use them during the day then they would pretty much replace perfume.
Smith's Rosebud Salve - I'm a bit disappointed with this I *so* wanted to like it, it could have been so beautiful! I was expecting a ROSE smell. This smells more like baby powder (spot on Thoughtcrime!). I must say however that it is very good for burnt or otherwise 'tortured' skin. It heals it up quickly, but then again normal vaseline might do that too.
Ok, I've bored you enough with this stuff. Now it's YOUR turn to list what you have tried and what you thought of it!
Have a lovely weekend everybody!

One more thing I tried (and really liked too)...
Phytomer Moisturizing Body Cream - it says on it that it 'softens the skin' and that's exactly what it does. I used this on my legs and they are feeling super smooth and soft! The smell of this cream reminds me of Orlane products as well (which is a good thing by the way ). Something tells me that I'm going to have to look into the Phytomer body products in a little bit more detail I'd love to try the "Phytomer Hydra Delicat Satin-Like Body Care"! Sounds divine! Summertimegirl? Have you tried any of the body range? Anyone?

Hey Mabsy-- tell me about the HEAT!! It's midnight and it's 35* outside!! It's disgustingly sticky but air-con is beeewdiful !
It sounds like you have been really busy doing some roadtesting and pamering .... a word on the MD Formulations Facial Cleanser, it looks harmless enough but don't let it go anywhere near your eyes. Not good news. Btw, are you using this cleanser regularly or do you interchange with the other cleansers you have? I'm wondering how you find the cleanser with glyco acid works with vit-C products? The DDF Non-Drying Gentle Cleanser also sounds interesting... would it be safe to say milk and lotion are of the same consistency? I'm a sucker for creaming cleansers...
From your Naughty list, the gourmet MMU Body Souffle moisturisers sound like fun, especially the Cinnamon Vanilla one ! And I always had it in mind to get a couple of pots of Smith's Rosebud Salve but I'm not sure if I'm all that keen on the baby powder scent now :P It must be a good sealer for moisture for lips though for the winters.
No I haven't touched on any of the Phytomer body range, I was going to splurge on the Lyophilised Oligomer Bath sachets last order but didn't as I thought I'd be spending more time at the pool then in the bath but if this hot weather keeps up I may just get some ! Did you mean the Phytomer Hydrating Body Lotion....it sounds nice and light. Don't you just love the scent of Phytomer products !! I'm eyeing the Sea-tonic Body Firming cream in the huge 250ml jar and the Sea-tonic Bust Gel ...perhaps it's my turn to be naughty :P

Hey Mabsy, hope you're staying cool :P I'm sitting here freezing with a tempermental heater blowing cold air if it's any consolation! I have no idea what synthetic beeswax is, but I do use products that contain it. I'm guessing it's like a candillila wax... Somebody please correct me... I don't wear lip liner or lipstick though. Just lip balm with a hint of color occasionally, but usually just cocoa butter or shea butter. Ok now for products I've tried this week...
Well I reviewed the awesome Karin Herzog cleansing milk, so I won't be redundant :P
Tried a sample of the Clarins cleansing milk, and I can't even finish it. It's terrible, and smells perfumey. I want to like this line but so far have been unimpressed.
I bought the Pevonia youthful lip repair cream that I'm returning, because I just found out today in an e-mail from a very nice Dr. in the Pevonia company that the collagen in it is is from fish--YUCK!!! And I used it on my lips once cause I didn't know When I originally called the very RUDE Pevonia sales associates on the phone (who were very unhelpful, and didn't want to answer any q's because I wasn't a spa, I might add) they told me there wasn't any animal ingredients in the lip cream. Lies! Ok enough of my tirade! :P So I'm back on the search for a good lip cream, if anyone has suggestions...
I just about finished off my sample of Babor Advanced Biogen day cream that I got with my Karin Herzog order. It's a thick cream, that doesn't spread so easy. It does absorb nicely though, and contains some nice ingredients like sodium hyaluronate, macadamia nut oil, vitamin, B, C, E, evening primrose... But I don't think I'd repurchase cause I like other stuff more.
Finally, I already told you this Mabsy, but I'll reiterate... I gave Chanel Chance another try, after initially hating it. Now it's going to be my next perfume purchase! It's a beautiful warm, sexy scent.
Mabsy, I HAVE to try those cinnamon vanilla body souffles! If you request "strong," are they really really strong?
re: Smith's Rosebud salve
I really wanted to like this too. It's one of Sephora's best selling items and a total classic. Like you Mabsy, I love rose scented things. But to me, this is Pink colored vaseline that's greasy, and smells like baby powder. :P |

Summertimegirl - your weather sounds just like ours! Re: the DDF cleanser - I'd say it's a milky type cleanser. The Phytomer cream I tried was actually the 'body cream' not the 'body lotion', although I don't see it anywhere on the EDS website though.... It might have been replaced with something else perhaps.
Thoughtcrime - if you have a heater that blows cold air then I'll take it off your hands! I need anything that blows cold air at the moment.... We've got a storm coming through at the moment though so hopefully that will cool things down. Re: the MMU body souffles.... Yes, I would say that the ones I got are pretty strong. You can get little pots though (2oz I think) for $4 so you can test things out. I think I'd go for medium if I were you....

G'day Mabsy !:P
I don't see the Moisturizing Body Cream anywhere on the EDS site either, only the Phytomer Firming Body Cream-- maybe there has been an update. Also, I noticed EDS lists the products in their original packaging. I'll send an email and ask Re: the Moisturising Body Cream as I won't mind having a nice large 250ml of this in my room, either this or a 250ml jar of the Seatonic Body Firming Cream. :P
Hello Thoughtcrime !
I'm pissed that the company lied about not having fish in their product especially when you went out of your way to inquire ! A good product for eye and lips is the Phytomer Contour Lift Eye Cream-- I actually use this product in three areas at night, on my eyes in the "C' winging it past the tips of my eyebrows, on my lips and on the corners of my nose for those mouth laugh lines. :P
Phytomer is totally natural, does not have animal products in it and is not tested on animals-- another reason I love this line !

Hello Everybody,
I am recovering from a bout of eczema attack. It started the Friday before last just right after all the talks we had about Decleor Harmonie Soothing Cream . I'm all right now. All the red and itchy patches disappeared from my face but my skin is still very "nervous" and around my neck, there is still a hot pink necklace, very ugly. So, sorry Mabsy, I would love to contribute to this lovely post but I should wait 'til next week, may be. Please wait for me! |

Sorry to hear that Babyfish (Nemo :P)! That would have been a perfect opportunity to test out the Decleor Harmonie Essentielle, although I hope you won't get more opportunites like this I hope your skin's well on its way to recovery.
My skin has been acting up the last week as well. I'm getting all sorts of little bumps. They're not visible but I can feel them when I wash my face I'm pretty sure it's just stress, because I've been drinking plenty of water, eating healthy stuff (well... mostly anyway) and I'm back to my usual skin care routine after trying some new cleansers etc. When in doubt - BLAME WORK!
All the best,
Mabsy. |

Hello Girls,
Babyfish-- I was wondering how you were lately, I've been missing you on the forum ! I'm sorry to hear about your eczema attack, I remember the talks about the Decleor Harmonie Soothing Cream aka Decleor Harmonie Essentielle when you mentioned the "ocular rosacea" coming up around your eyes.. that must have just been the start of it you poor thing I'm glad your skin is now recovering and I hope you're soothed and feeling a lot better.
I agree with Mabsy that stress can really play up on your skin, especially long periods of it. It upsets our body's fluid balance and skin is the first to reflect it, mine flares up and gets angry too, it's fight or flight, but usually it shrugs, resigns and gives up on me as it's had enough ....girls, solution is Yoga. I'm serious. I read in another post somewhere else where I think Zazu and Myrna do it and I can honestly say it's the best thing for skin, not just skin of course but your whole body !! The difference between a good week and a bad one for me is when I've incorporated a few days of yoga.

Mabsy, you have the greatest sixth sense. Decleor Harmonie Essentielle Balm and Soothing Emulsion really were my skin savers. I've been using them on my hurt skin since the eczema attack. Thanks to Thoughtcrime's post and my generous EDS supply of Decleor samples ( thank you, Magda). As for my eye areas on those "itching days", I've used Decleor Soothing Eye Contour Gel (am) and Cellcosmet Eye Contour Creme (pm). These wonderful ptds really shorten my suffering to only one third of the usual time I used to do (only 4 days ). And you are right again, this should be considered my "list of first time tried and true ptds in one week". Oh! I should also add that during these "red eye" days, I still use my JI Eye Concealer with no irritation. And for the itchy patches around my neck, thinking that I couldn't wait for Aloha's Boudreaux's Butt Paste, I just used Penatene Diaper Rash Cream. Well, my neck smelled just like a baby's bottom but it was healed really quick.:P:P:P |

Babyfish (Mabsy how CUTE--Nemo! Love that movie :P) So glad that you're back, and sorry to hear about your sensitive skin
What do you normally use for eczema that is effective? I suffer from irritations too
Mabsy, my skin is acting up too! I think I'm trying too many products and my skin is confused and unbalanced. I would like to stick to one skin care regimen, but like a product junkie, I am always on the search for the best miracle cream out there! I agree, let's blame it on work! :P
Summertimegirl,
How long have you been doing yoga? What kind do you do? I've been meaning to try a class for the past month but keep putting it off... I think I will try next week. There's a place downtown around the corner from me, that I think is on the 16th (?) floor with a great view of the downtown. I think I need to incorporate yoga, so I learn to relax more. |

Summertimegirl, how can I forget your "Tell-tale SKIN issues" post. I read it over and over on those bad days trying to find some clues for my own skin tell-tales. You know, when your skin betrays you overnight, you feel so ...lost. And a thousand questions come up: What have I done? What am I doing? And what should I do? Will I look like this forever? Half of your confidence disappears and you feel twice miserable than you look:( . I'm always proud of my high level of energy and my positive outlook of almost everything. I choose to be happy. But after something like this happened ( eventhough to some people it doesn't sound like a big deal), I've gotta to sit down and taken a good look at my lifestyle. I think I've taken my youth, my health and my well being for granted. I think I'm too strong to get sick and too young to die! And that's how I start to neglect my body and ignore all the warning signs. My mom always reminds me, most of the skin allergic symtoms that I have is not only about skin and I should be always diligently taking good care of my body. That's all you have: your body. It's the temple of your soul and your spirit, what can you do without it? Thank you Summertimegirl, you never know how your wonderful ( although very epic:P) input posts improve my way of taking care of my skin ( not just with topical skin creams) in such a subtle yet convincing way. Thanks, Summertimegirl. You are a true angel. |

Dear Thoughtcrime,I used to blame my skin flare-ups on my junky style of non-stop choosing and changing skin regimen. But now I realize that it's not always the case. People who have sensitive and reactive skin are the most skeptical and cautious in picking a new skin routine. It's just that our skin keeps being reactive and rejects those new ptds and we have to keep on trying. That's why we need these forum so we can ask and share all wonderful and not so experience with people who care for their skin and others. Besides, asking me to stick with one routine to the rest of my life is like asking me to drink only milk 'til I die, tee hee hee !!!

babyfish,
I so agree. I love this forum because it's so nice to read a review before you spend mega bucks on a product and realize it broke you out in a rash, or it's just simply ineffective. Plus all the women here are so knowledgable! I'm really glad your skin is clearing up, try not to let it bring you down. It's only temporary, and you really are very positive! |

Ditto. Plus I'm grateful for EDS samples, otherwise I'd have an empty bank account and a trunk full of used-once products that my skin didn't like.
Okay, getting back to Mabsy's GREAT thread idea--What have I tried lately and what did I think?...
Epidermx Microdermabrasion:
To me, this seems like an ordinary scrub. I followed the directions exactly but didn't get amazing results like in the website's testimonials. It didn't break me out though, so there's something good to be said for it.
Decleor Nourishing Comfort Hand Cream:
I usually don't buy hand cream cuz I love using the kind that comes with William Sonoma's kitchen sets. (Dish soap, Hand soap and Hand lotion in an awesome Persian Lime scent and a metal rack to hold all three.) But this Decleor product came as a GWP and I find myself using it before bed and taking an obscene amount of time to rub it in. I just love the way it feels and smells!
Rachel Perry "Chocolate Bliss" lip balm:
There's only one word to describe this...YUMMY!
Rusk Deepshine anti-frizz serum:
This is great for smoothing hair. It's a cross between a liquid and a gel, has a pretty sea-green color and smells heavenly. It leaves hair shiny and soft but not weighted down.
DDF Ultra-Rich Moisturizing Cream:
I have a GWP size in a little pump bottle. I can't tell you what it's like because I can't get it out of
the #$%* bottle. It's too thick to go through the pump! If I could just find a pair of pliers...

LOL! If and when you get the DDF Ultra-Rich Moisturizing Cream out, it's actually quite nice! BTW, how do you like the Decleor hydrafloral cream? Have you reviewed it already? I am interested in it as it has UV protection. |

Oops, I thought I reviewed the Decleor Hydrafloral Cream already. Here's my opinion:
It's the most moisturizing cream I've ever used (or maybe I should say "hydrating"-- not sure what the difference is). It absorbs nicely and doesn't break me out, but I'm not using it anymore because the scent is way too strong for me. It doesn't have a wonderful natural scent like Decleor's other products. This one is like a strong floral perfume, which some people might like, but I sure don't. |

Thoughtcrime - Nemo's a great movie! I think it was Jenny that said that BabyFish made her think of Nemo and I thought "yeah, that's so true!". Like you I suspect that trying all these new things might have had some impact on my skin, but for now I'm just blaming it on work Meanwhile, I decided to do a 'test run' of MDF products. At the moment, I'm using the cleanser, the lotion, the hydrating gel, the clearing complex, clearing complex masque and the SPF30 sun protector... Well, not all at once of course! I just wanted to see what kind of an impact changing to a MDF "regime" would have. I don't particularily like the products themselves (you know me.... stuff has to smell good or be tingly ) but the results are pretty good! I'll give it another week and then I will write about it some more.
Alohagirl - LOL! You're too funny! And there you go with the Rachel Perry again! Just when I've managed to forget about it (and forget about the fact that I wanted to try it) you bring it up! I predict you and my credit card will be having words! :P
Hope you all have a lovely weekend. I've been quite sick the last few days so I'm gonna have some chicken soup (of the 2-minute variety unfortunately) and head off to bed.

Mabsy, I know you can't enjoy the medicinal smell of MDF but they are quite good to treat trouble skin. I'm glad you found it worked for you.
It's strange that I've never thought of trying the MDF masks. Usually, I start with a mask anytime I want to try a new line, but not with MDF. Maybe, I always think that MDF is more for treatments such as " skin medicine" than something I can enjoy having like those Decleor Aromatherapy Ptds. |

Mabsy, I can see why the MD formulation products are not as appealing,---they have more of a dermatologist rather than a spa quality feel. My mom really likes their products. I did not like one of the eye creams I tried, and the MDF non-glycolic cleanser has become my make-up brush cleanser. I can't use anything w/ glycolic acid, my sensitive skin is unaccepting. BTW, I hope your feeling better!
babyfish, the way you are with masks is the way I am with moisturizer. It's my favorite part of skin care, and something I never incorporated until late teens. Unfortunately I was under the impression that you didn't need moisturizer if you had oily skin. Now, I usually start with a moisturizer when trying a new line. :P |

Hi Girls, (Mabsy, hope you are feeling heaps better by now-- wish I could make chicken soup for you, my mum taught me to use real bones to make the stock).
I have to agree that this forum is the best to turn to for advice and share our experiences with our skin issues and what-nots (how C L ! to now have a 'Lounge' area where we can have discussions about other 'non-beauty' issues !!)
Babyfish-- the "Tell-tale" post was just my post-crises share of the worst downer period of my "skin life". I felt so bad that I dreaded going back to work and didn't feel like making the effort to pretty myself up to go out with friends, it was quite demoralising. I always try to look after myself and thought I was in the best of health so it totally struck me that my skin was suffering so badly. I think stress plays a major role in upsetting our balance-- I really need the time-out like you to devote time to doing excercise otherwise I feel like I'm really neglectful of my body.
Sometimes when we're so busy, we're not really on the pulse when it comes to health and we forget to eat, rest and excercise properly and that's when our immune system says "OK That's it, I'm fed up, I'm out of here!" our body gets those first fever chills warning us of the onset of a cold.....our throat dries up..... our hair becomes lank, our eyes shows signs of fatigue....we become lethargic and unmotivated in general .... our SKIN looks dull and lifeless and as if that wasn't enough of a revenge, rewards us with angry skin flare ups. I hope your eczema is getting better now and that it doesn't come back again.
Thankfully the process of getting it back to good health again is fun, by injecting more good food into our system and flushing out the bad, getting more oxygen with excercise and losing the fatigue with better and regular sleeping patterns...and who doesn't love their sleep ! and of course finding the right products for our skin. If I didn't have this forum and trust the integrity of the ladies here I don't know what I'd do-- it would be a wildcard choice every time I went for a product I guess.
I totally agree that our body is our only 'temple' for the next 40-50 years or so and we don't want it to be a Temple of Doom !! Like you said once before, our face is the thing we love to invest in and it's the thing that our confidence is built on so we got to look after it well, it's our only one!

That is also my case. And I totally agree with you stress is the villain. But where do these stresses come from? I realized many times they could come when you were the most happy or should I say excited about something. Is that weird? |

Thanks ladies, feeling much better. Yeah, MDF just seems mediciny and well... bland. But I have been really surprised by how well it works. I'm just trying to catch up on the posts on the forum (I was only away for a few days and it takes *SO* long to catch up - that's a good thing though - love reading all the posts! ), but I will post some MDF reviews this weekend. I think I've used them long enough to comment
Hope everybody is keeping well,
