Whenever I buy a new product I tend to buy the whole line. I have noticed here that many people use a mixture of product lines. I had always thought this was a no no because the ingredients could clash with one another.
What is the consensus out there on this?
The problem I came across was with the MD Formulations kit I bought for sensitive skin here in Australia. It had an Australian sun protection cream (not an MD one) in it and when I didn't use the moisturiser (critical care sheilding cream) and used the sun cream instead, it kind of rubbed in but then rubbed off in little balls off my skin and I got a strong smell of ammonia . That made me really scared to use it. When I use it alone it isn't as bad. Just seems to be after I use the MD facial cream.

julliams, I believe in some instances, it is preferable to use products from the same line when layering. This tends to apply to products which contain actives and the advice of the company making that product should be taken note of. IMO you can use whichever cleanser, exfoliator, toner and moisturiser which appeals to you and use with actives.
I have found that many sunscreens can ball up when applied over products from a different brand. Some other members may have opinions here, but I tend to use a sunscreen made by the same company as the products I layer before it of a daytime. |

i'm kind of mix and match girl in term of products. At this moment, i'm using dr. brandt, henry tianus, skinceuticals for skin care. For make up I use many different brands since I choose them based on the color to suit my skin.
the problem with sticking to one line is i like to try new product. also sometimes i hard not to try when i read magazines or online article, recommending products. Perhaps this is not a wise thing to do, but just can't help it! |

I'm with Bushy! I chop and change brands a lot out of boredom ( even if they are working well) but stick to the same line at the same time as much as possible. That balling of foundation is a consideration ..... gel and oil based products sometimes "clash"...obviously not always. Lots of people don't though and unless they are combining hugely active ingredients and maybe overdosing on something drying for example, it seems to be just fine!
For me I also ( superficially!) like to see the consistent line up of bottles on my bathroom vanity! |
