I had a little disaster with Neutrogena self tanning lotion last weekend, and I had been hoping that it would fade before this weekend when I will absolutely have to leave the house with bare legs (going to the beach).
Of course, it hasn't and I still have some large blotches on my legs. I have tried using a scrub in the shower, and I have also scrubbed them with a combination of lemon juice and salt.
If anyone has a miracle solution, I would be so grateful. Thanks! |

I remember not so long ago a member who had worked in hairdressing recomended cigarette ash for getting hair dye out of skin, I don't know if this would work for fake tan??
The only thing that comes to mind is exfoliating which you are already doing, you could try shaving your legs, every time I shave my legs my tan colour goes down a notch and then try bicarbonate of soda and lemon??
Or the other alternative is to try and apply more fake tan to help blend the blotched areas.
Good luck and I hope you have a great weekend |

I think hydrogen peroxide will get rid of a fake tan. I once had a good one going on my legs, then cut my leg and rubbed peroxide on the cut. It left a big white spot. This was the stuff in the brown bottle. |

The best thing I've found for getting rid of fake tan is the Dermalogical Ultimate Buffing Cloth. It's an amazing exfoliator and takes off every trace. |

majorb - I just ordered the buffing cloth and can hardly wait to try it out! I've read good things about it. |

Witch Hazel helps, I know, when I get it on my hands. Might work on your legs also. |

Witch Hazel, thanks for the tip, why did I not think of that! |

Thank-you so much everyone! So far, I have tried the hyrdogen peroxide, which really helped, the splotches are so much fainter that by tomorrow evening I think they will barely be noticeable (except, of course, to myself). I think I may also try some sodium bicarbonate and lemon juice to see if I can make them completely disappear. You have saved me from a rather embarrassing weekend. |

Try exfoliating with a loofah, too. |

I know this sounds weird-but it really works! Just use it like you would on surfaces to clean, only it's your skin! I couldn't self-tan without it!

Update: I found an even better fake tan remover: it is a natural nail polish remover by Suncoat. It is a combination of soy ester and corn ester. The "tan" is coming completely off.
My legs are now so white, everyone else on the beach may go blind from the glare, and yet, I'm thrilled. Not to worry, I'm sure by Sunday I will be sporting lobster legs, which will lead to another week of long pants to try to hide the damage.
Once again, thank-you for all your advice. |

majorb - sounds great! I'll let you know what I think, but I have a sneaky suspicion I'm going to like this one! |
