I am particularly interested in what you all use for dark spots post breakouts. I find that many of the pigmentation lightening products out there don't work for me, my cousins, friends, etc. So am curious to learn your experiences.
Also, do any of you use ayurveda to any success?

I'm chinese so I guess I'm East Asian? Anyways I have fair skin I have a lot of trouble with these too and I use Clarins' Bright-Plus Serum which I wrote a review on. I recommended this to some of my relatives and friends and they all seem to like this line. For me it seems to speed up the healing process so that my marks fade quicker. Even mosquito bites for me take like a year to fade so. I'm going through my second container of the serum and am planning to try Skinceuticals Phyto Corrective Gel after I finish and see how that goes. I also only use it once a day at night time and I don't use moisturizer as this is more than enough for my combo/oily skin. I find the moisturizers in the Bright-Plus lines too oily, I only use the serum. You may also want to look into the corrective pen which my sales did an experiment on with one sun-spot and it really works. I stick to the serum because I have too many acne marks (I get them VERY easily) so more practical. It seems that many on EDS say that JB's Apple Peel helps, I've used it 2x so far and have yet to see improvement in this aspect.

I'm of South Asian descent, though I've never used any of the skin lighteners before (fair & lovely etc). But I've found regular use of the aspirin mask and acv as a toner has really helped to lighten brown marks left by acne. Also, a good broad spectrum sunscreen (UVA/UVB) keeps any present marks from darkening, and any new ones from forming (brown marks are hyperpigmentation after all).
I know some people swear tumeric (vicco?) helps to lighten their skin, but I've never tried that. |

Asian here, regular exfoliation with either DHCC or Dermalogica microfoliant seems to fade the post-acne marks faster. Sunspots and freckles are more resistant. |

Sorry, I'm not asian, but I do live in Southern Asia. Just wondering what SS you use especially on sweatier parts like the neck. I'm assuming it's humid where you are too.

asian here....
i use juice beauty green apple peel for acne scars post breakouts.
it works really well.... i dont think you want to use spot treatments, since there is a chance that the spots will be light and your whole face is not (this is according to my derm). you will look spotty. |

I am Chinese and have too found that acne marks are so difficult to get rid of.
At the moment I am using up the JB green apple peel, yoghurt+aspirin+manuka honey mask, BHA serum then Differin, sometimes spot treating with an acne cream, then followed by pearl powder. I really do think the pearl powder and the aspirin mask is very beneficial.
This combination has certainly helped with new post acne marks, as they dont seem to be as red/purple.
My skin is very smooth at the moment but then again, my acne is very mild but break out horribly at that TOTM. |

I am chinese, 40 and have a combination skin. I have a few pigmentation spots, especially after the kids. Since turning 40 I have been having a facial every 6 weeks - I was lucky enough to have been given several for my birthday. Anyway, I have tried Pevonia, Emergin C, Dermalogica and Aveda. The Emergin C facial is fabulous, it is probably because my therapist is the BEST. I have been using the Emergin C spot lightening gel, it seems to be working, but i actually think the 6 weekly facials are doing the trick.I also agree that the dermalogica daily microfoliant seems to help too. |

Hi PRS,
I'm from Vietnam so I'm southeast Asian too. I have very small visible pores and a few sunspots that have appeared over time. I agree with Stardust that apart from getting invasive procedures like microdermabrasions or laser therapy, regular exfoliation is the key.
I use the MD Formulations Face and Body scrub added to a cheap and simple pharmaceutical (or drug-store if you live in the US) soap-free cleanser like Dermaveen. (The cleanser adds like a buffer in taking out the harshness of the scrub.) I found the exfoliating effects Dermalogica Microfoliant gentle but drying for my normal/ dry skin. I use a very good sunscreen like Skinsceuticals Ultimate UV Defense SPF30 mixed with a moisturiser like Dermalogical Super Rich Repair.
In summer I'll incorporate a vitamin C serum into my daily repertoire.
But exfoliating everyday and blocking out the damage helps prevent those spots from darkening ... I don't think you can prevent them from coming altogether. I know you can REMOVE them but the laser thing is in the distant future for me...

Whatever treatments you use, I would strongly recommend using a sunscreen with photostable UVA protection everyday, otherwise the dark spots will never fade. |

I’m Asian and scar easily from acne. I have been alternating between Meladerm and Mario Badescu’s Corrective Complex Emulsion. My scars have faded, but it has not been a quick fix. I really like the texture of Meladerm. When I use it before my foundation, I’ll skip my primer because I feel that Meladerm smoothes my skin like a primer.
For Asians considering laser or IPL, please do your research and make sure that you go to someone who has specific experience in treating Asian skin. Because Asian skin tends to have a high epidermal melanin content, Asians tend to have a higher incidence in developing adverse reactions, especially post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), following treatment. I’ve also heard that while the results may look good immediately after treatment, any exposure to sun could result in the areas treated turning even darker than before they were treated. |
