Hi- Im new here and have a question regarding what order to use my skin care products. My dermatologist isnt much help, so I have decided to get advice from people who know what it's like. First off, Im going to list the products and then if anyone could give me a detailed outline of a routine, that would be great. By the way- I have acne prone skin. Nothing serious, but a little irritable.
Tazorac-prescription medication, Avon topical vitamin c serum (thick and sticky) Olay anti-aging antiwrinkle cream, Mint julep mask..and of course a salicylic face wash. If anyone who is fighting blemishes AND age prevention has any advice, it would be really appreciated. Also- does anyone know if Wet-n-Wild foundations aggravate acne? I have tried to research the products online and I have had no luck. Thanks; |

If it were MY routine, this is what I would do:
A.M.
sa face wash
C serum
anti-wrinkle cream
sunscreen (Taz will make you more sensitive to sun exposure and the damage it can cause)
P.M.
sa face wash
Taz
Mint mask-a couple times per week
You may get irritation from the Taz, so you may want to ease into it slowly by using it every other night or by leaving it on for only a few minutes and then rinsing it off for the first few weeks. If these are all new products that you haven't been using, then you may want to introduce each one slowly instead of all at once to avoid irritation or possible breakouts. You may find that you cannot use some of the products with Taz. I use Retin A and I cannot use strong cleansers because it irritates my skin. I am also battling wrinkles and acne, and I believe that a retinoid like Taz, responsible sun exposure habits, and a Vitamin C products are all good choices for tackling both.
Hth.

I would do it that way, but the vitamin c is real thick and sticky, there is no way to get moisturizer over it, then makeup. What I dont understand is why does oily skin need moisturizer? Does it help to prevent the skin from overproducing oil? I think the best thing is to put the vitamin c on before bed, over the Tazorac, but im not sure if it will be super drying? irritating? or if it would be okay? Does the vitamin C dry out the skin at all? |

Maybe you could alternate the C serum with the Taz (go every other night). I personally wouldn't layer a retinoid with another treatment product. I wouldn't want the possibility of anything interfering with its action.
I don't know if every oily skin needs moisturizer; I know that mine does or else I do breakout more. The Taz may make you feel drier anyway, so you could find that you actually need the moisturizer.
I have used C serums that have felt like they dried out my skin, but I have used others that have had no drying effect. I think that it depends on the C serum's strength and formulation. I may be wrong though

Your probably right. I have pretty painful cracking and peeling at the corners of my mouth...thats probably why. I imagine moisturizer would help! Thanks- now what about eye cream? The skin around my eyes is drying and making me look older...but I noticed most lotions burn there. I want the Taz to reduce blemishes and wrinkles, but Im paying for it with red, peely skin- that hurts like h**ll! Aargghh! Why is this my problem at 28? ......I had better skin during puberty!!! |

If you are using Taz around your eyes, then the skin there will most likely get irritated and peely. Try using your eye cream first and then the Taz over it to kind of buffer it. It can be tricky using a retinoid around the eye since the skin seems thinner and more sensitive there. Also, you could try to ease into using Taz there by using it every third night to start. From what I have read, when using retinoids around the eyes, it often looks worse before it looks better. Taz is also very strong treatment, so proceed slowly Good Luck!
