Hi all,
I went to a beauty salon recently and the beautician told me that i have combination/oily skin. My T-zone is oily but my cheek is dry. I also have pimples/blemishes/acne on my forehead, chin and cheek occasionally. My pores are big and visible especially on my cheek and nose even i put lots of foundation to cover it. My skin is bumpy and rough too due to skincare products that i use i think.
What is the best product for me to use in order to clear my skin from acne and oily skin ? Can i have a clear and smooth skin again like when i'm in my younger age ? I suffer from acne since my university days and it just dont stop till now although its not so bad like before ? Can anybody reccomend any good product from this website for my skin ?
Thank you. |

Why don't you try ordering an acne kit - either MD Formulations or Dermalogica (they are the ones I know of - but I am sure other brands do them too). They are great value and have small sizes of things specifically for your type of skin - so you know you are using the right combinations of products. Also if they don't suit your skin or you don't think they are working for you at least you haven't spent loads of money on the larger sizes.
Also as a treat I would recommend having regular facials or Glycolic Acid peels and use the homecare products such as MDF or Dermalogica to keep up the good results, but as we all know this depends upon how much cash we want to spend on pampering ourselves - anyway just a suggestion.
I had skin like you have described and the Glycolic peels together with MDF products have worked for me. |

I wouldn't advise using anything too astringesnt for the blemishes in your t-zone. Skincare that has been formulated particularly for acneic or oily skin would prove to be too harsh for your combo. skin. I agree with the previous posting: it is a great idea to try the travel sets frm either Dermalogica or MD Formulations. However, I would use the sets for combination skin, and spot-treat the actual blemishes with a salicylic-acid based acne product. Otherwise, you risk completely dehydrating your whole face. This will actually acerbate the problems you've had with your skin! |

Hi Lady Jane and Caspers Mom,
Thank you for your reply. I have checked the MD Forte and Dermalogica products from this site and I'm confused which set should i use ? Should i use Dermalogica Oily-Normal Skincare kit or Acne prone kit ?
For MD Forte, which one is better for my skin, Combintion Skin Regimen, Problem prone Skin or Sensitive Skin regimen kit?
Between Dermalogica and MD Forte, which is better and suitable for my skin ? I'm Asian.
Appreciate your advice.
Thank you.

I was once told that i have combo skin too, i changed my beauty routine about 6 months ago to the lunatips plan, although i didnt change my products and have the best results ever, infact my skin has never looked so good. I changed from using my moisturising products everyday and exfoliating products twice a week to moisturising for 2 weeks and exfoliating for 2 weeks based around the waning and waxing moon, i was caution at first but wouldnt dream of going back to my old routine, whod have thought that changing the times of when you do things could produce such good results.

I use to have the same problem like yours. And my pimples started in my college days.
I agree with Caspers Mum to spot treat the pimple and avoid using harsh acne medicated cleansers. I keep them undercontrol with a very simple routine.
Try gentle Cleanser and spf lightweight moisturizer for daytime and gentle cleanser and Decleor's Ylang Ylang oil at night. Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel once an week.
My skin is much better since I started using these products. |

I have combination skin & I quite like Dr Hauschka's products, I definitely recommend their products for oily/combination skin, but I also like Decleor's products as well. These are the 2 brands that seem to work wonders on my skin. |

I have combo skin yet I don't have much breakouts. Having said that, I always have this sticky feeling when I'm off work (as I work in intensive care unit and have to wear face mask on from day till night. i've just started to use DHCC hopefully it'll improve my skin, I hate that yucky feeling!
Do you recommend Dr. Hauschka's moisturizers, and which one? I'm about to place a new order soon. |

Calla lily- I recommend Dr Hauschka's cleansing cream. It is very effective for the conditions you are describing. I love it because it doesn't strip my skin and dehydrate it like other cleansers can. I have loved the results from using it. There are many of the forum members that really like what it does as well. I find that I have to use a "pre-cleanser" like Cetaphil first to remove makeup. In the morning I just start with the DHCC. Try searching this forum for Dr Hauschka cleansing cream to read about all kinds of results for all types of skin.
I also have found great success with using an aspirin mask 3-4 times per week. It's very inexpensive and very effective. I suggest checking out the DIY thread or, again, perform a search for aspirin mask. There are many, many variations. For instance, I add a bit of sugar (to provide glycolic acid) to mine.
These are just a few suggestions...
Good luck! |

I hope you find good results with the DHCC! You are lucky that you don't breakout a lot from having your skin in contact with a mask all day. That's what happens to me (if something is in constant contact with my skin). As for mosturizers I would suggest using something as simple as jojoba oil or try Dr. H's Normalizing oil. For me, I've gone back to using jojoba oil with a few drops or geranium and ylang ylang essential oils. It helps regulate my oiliness and yet moisturizes my skin. |

I have a similar skin type to you and can recomend the Dr Hauschka regime, it really does make a difference, it calmed my skin and gave it the chance to heal, also the day Oil regulated my oily skin.
I have had good results with all of the following:
*Dr Hauschka Cleansing Cream
*Homemade Dr Hauschka Cleansing Cream - See DIY thread, this I use when I have been wearing heavy make-up.
*Witch Hazel for Toning - A toner really makes the difference for oily, acne skin as it treats the acne whilst not being harsh.
*Dr Hauschka Normalising Day Oil
*Jojoba Oil - Just as good as the Dr Hauschka, I also like to mix in my own essential Oils, Tea Tree Oil and Lavender are especially good for acne.
*Decleor Essential Balme - I loved this for night time
*Dr Hauschka Clay Mask - Very gentle yet effective, does not suck pores tight and dry like a lot of clay masks do.
*Dr Hauschka Rejuvenating Face Mask - Good for clearing acne scars, conditions skin.
I do like what I have tried of Dermalogica. |

I have combo skin too. Recently started using the PSF line, my skin is looking good, and i'm happy .
Cleanse: Clarisonic brush + PSF Green Tea Cleanser
Then PSF 02 serum - calms down redness and tiny blemishes, and pimples i've just popped (i love it and will be re-ordering forever)
PSF Emergen-C 12%- i have yet to find a moisturizer that won't break me out, so i'm going without. I find this (with vegetable glycerin) moisturizing enough. Good for fading scars and improving overall texture and tone. A major plus- doesn't break me out.
Prescription topical antibiotic- lately i've been noticing it's decreasing effectiveness. I don't know if my skin is building tolerance against it or what, but with the addition of the PSF 02 serum, it works wonders again. |
