This is a vitamin C derivative and is oil soluable. Have any of you used it or made your own Vitamin C serum with it? I would think it would be better and easier to work with since it doesn't need any water to disolve it is a lot more stable and won't deteriate as fast as L-Ascorbate. It also seems like it would take care of the problem of sticky and heavy mixes for DIY serum like glycerine etc. cause you can just mix it with a favorite face oil moisturizer or other cream moisturizer.
I saw that Elizabeth started adding it to one of her oils. http://rosayfruta.com/pages/3277/Sol_'C'_(Vitamin_C_Elixir).htm
However it would be much more economical to buy it in bulk and mix your own. Like from: http://www.lotioncrafter.com/store/BV-OSC-trade;-Tetrahexyldecyl-Ascorbate-pr-16382.html |

Hi BRYG,
Wow ... this ingredient looks interesting ... but it's very expensive.
$28 for .25 ounces seems to be rather excessive when compared to the price of l-ascorbic acid!
I'd be interested in trying it, however, if I were sure that it would be as effective as l-ascorbic acid ... and I can see so many benefits of it being oil soluable. Hopefully someone else has tried it and can report on this aspect of it.
I wonder what the percentages would be necessary to make a 10% solution? [Math was never my strong suit! ]

According to my math (which is also not my strong suit) you would use about the whole .25 oz container of the TA-C.
Though, reading the technical data sheet on this makes it seem there are definite benefits v/s l-ascorbic. Lotioncrafter is a great place to buy raw ingredients - but I'm sure if you shopped around you could find it for less.
Ah ha! Not the wealth of information that Lotioncrafter is but here is 1 source that has twice the amount for the same price.

Wow. I'm glad I asked about it here. I wasn't able to find a cheaper source on my own, and was going to buy it from Lotioncrafter.
It is more expensive then L-Ascorbic yes, and I have a whole bottle of L-Ascorbic that will last me a long long long long time probably. However, I always had problems making my own serum with it because of the carriers. I tried aloe vera and it was too sticky and weird, I tried it with the glycerine and that was very sticky and heavy too and clogged my pores. If I just used it with water I would have to make a fresh new batch every day. If I use something like this it's great cause I use pure carrier oils for moisturizers anyways. So I could just add it to that, and it's supposed to last much longer and be a lot more stable. L-Ascorbic start deteroriating immedietly when mixed with water.
Also, it is effective at much lower % then L-Ascorbic, so it wouldn't be the same amount used. It says it is typically used at .5-2% and at the most up to 7%
Here is more information about it:
