| Somehow I stumbled on to this site...and since I'm such a make-up/beauty/frou-frou type of girl I'm pretty happy to have found it! I've recently started using Retin-A, not for breakouts but for excess oiliness (I'm in my 40's and you'd think I was 16 again). I want to start using some of the peels and things that are out there but not sure how they will react with the Retin-A. Most people think I'm in my 30's (whoo-hoo!) and I want to make sure I do as much as I can to keep the aging experience in slow motion. Thanks in advance for any suggestions! |

Welcome to our forum StaceyA!
First a question, how well is the RetinA working at controlling your oily skin? How long have you been using the RetinA? You want to make sure your skin has become accustomed to the RetinA before you start doing peels or adding other actives. You certainly can do peels if you are using RetinA as long as you follow proper precautions. These would depend on the strenght of the peel you are using. Did you have any particular peels in mind? Also, what are you trying to accomplish with the peels? Better skin texture, collagen production, etc.? You are already using RetinA which is very good from an anti-aging standpoint. Depending on what you wish to achieve you may just want to add a C serum. There are so many options to chose from but retinoids and C serums are a very good starting point. |

| Hi Stacey, and welcome! I'm not on RetinA, however, I do use Tazorac and they are similar products. The most important thing is just to go slowly and see how your skin will react. For example, I have no problems using acids and peels while I'm on Tazorac--- I use Azelaic Acid gel, and I do a Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel twice a week. HOWEVER, I recently tried to do some facial waxing and I literally waxed the skin right off of my face, so please be especially cautious about waxing. HTH! |

Thanks for the feedback! The dose I'm on (for the past 3-4 months) is only 0.04% - so not very strong. I still use an oil control moisturizer during the day to help keep any shine under control. I guess I'm just wanting to make sure that I'm doing all I can do to keep my skin in shape and continue to look as young as I can - before it all heads south and my only options are the drastic ones (face lift!).  |

Yes be careful with the waxing, I did the same. I was on roaccutane and using glycolic products. My friend waxed my eyebrows before a romantic trip with the boyf, and waxed the skin right off!
I've also just received JB apple peel, i have only used it once, but I have high hopes! |

| StacyA with your skin type I don't think that peels would be out of the question. (Unless you have other skin issues that haven't been mentioned.) But based on what you said that you are looking for I think that a better option for you might be a Vitamin C serum. In terms of doing all you can to keep your skin in good shape the C serum would help a lot since it is an excellent antioxidant and will help protect your skin. It also helps boost collagen production. I would also strongly recommend using a good sunscreen if you aren't already. This is actually the most important step in preventing premature aging! |

| I found after my skin got used to Tazorac it was great, but I did have to wait for 30 mins before applying make up or I would have a very red and itch face. NO more adult acne however - at least for now! LOL |

Retin-A (retinoic acid, vitamin A acid) may sensitize your skin to the hydroxy acids used in peels and facials due to its inherent exfoliative mechanism. The risk of irritation increases with concomitant use of both products.
I use chemical peels and differin (adapalene) gel together with little discomfort, although I notice that I experience more stinging and redness during and after the peels. |
