I have been using the full Obagi Nu Derm system for 4 months now. My skin does look better but I still have acne breakouts on my chin area, redness all over my face and dryness when I wake up in the am. Is it time to stop using all the steps everyday? Do I need to start cutting out some of the steps (i.e. the bleach, exfoderm, retin-a micro, etc)? I feel like maybe my face is getting too much product everyday. I have yet to see the good, clear complection Obagi promises. Please help as my dermatologist isn't! |

I have no help for you, but wanted to say that I know where you are coming from. The same thing happened to me with Obagi and Retin-A micro, except maybe my dryness was worse, my skin actually cracked and bled in addition to peeling peeling peeling. Everyone said you have to work through the peeling so I stuck it out for a little over four months, just like you, before I gave up. I have not been able to use anything strong on my face ever since, it is too sensitive.
The only thing I can think of is maybe your derm could cut down your script for Retin-A to a lower percentage, use the regular not the micro? |

I used the Obagi system 3 years ago and quite after 6 months. Now that I have had Thermage treatment, my doctor said the Obagi would work much better and I have been on it for 3 months with excellent results. Retina A every other night. Your doctor should be watching you more closely. |

I think it's BS that you're spending all this money on this stuff and your doctor isn't helping you, and probably isn't even telling you what all those different products do.
What's causing your peeling and redness is the Retin-A Micro, which is supposed to help with the acne as well. So if you lessen up on that, it's not going to help your acne, but it doesn't seem to be helping anyway. My experience with Retin-A, after stopping Obagi, is that after you start sloughing off layers of skin, you need something else to clean out your pores. I use 10% SA twice a day and Retin-A at night. It's the only thing that's consistently helped my skin ever.
I doubt it's a good idea to mix other products with Obagi, and if after 4 months you're still breaking out, it's probably just not right for you. |
