i got a 5 gallon pail of tropical traditions organic coconut oil only to find out i'm sensitive to it. you can cook with it and use it for skin care, if anyone is in phx area and wants a gallon, i hate to just toss it as it was expensive! (my friends don't seem to care about coconut oil!) |

personally, i don't think it smells that good. i got it because it is a really healthy fat with a ton of health benefits which you can find just by googling coconut oil. a lot of people just take it by the spoonful to support the thyroid and metabolism. so i was cooking in it and making salad dressing and what not. it also is raw and organic and i wanted to use it as a nourishing skin oil and base for skin products (add essentials oils and then it will smell good!) however i seem to be sensitive to it. |

Copychick, have you considered selling the oil in units? Meaning you could put some in, say, an 8 oz. jar and sell it for what the oil is worth, plus the cost of the jar and shipping. Five gallons sounds like A LOT of oil! |

I really wouldn't say it's a healthy oil considering it's actually the most Highly saturated fat in the world. So, you might want to skip the idea of making it a salad dressing. |

purpleturtle, it is a myth that saturated fat is bad for you. because of a near fatal health concern i had in 1992, i have done over a decade of serious research on diet. i've eaten a diet of mostly sat. fat and meat since then. i healed myself, and my cardiac risk factor have remained in the lowest possible category. you can find out more on this topic at mercola.com or proteinpower.com/drmike or any number of sources. now, i hope you all feel better about all that turky yesterday! |

saturated fat is high in cholesterol, particularly LDL's ..if you eat nothing but saturated fat, you have a high risk of building up cholesterol plaque in your arteries and have a heart attack..doesn't seem like something that's a myth..moreso common sense with proven science. |

i actually messed that whole comment up earlier...saturated fats contain LDLs which essentially are bad because they leave lots of cholesterol in the body, hence the buildup. Monounsaturated fats aren't bad though. |
