There has been some going on at EDs just these past few days.
I thought I'd just share a Group Dynamic formula which is reassuring for those that feel uncomfortable when the surface gets ruffled -
"Forming – Storming – Norming – Performing"
to quote wikipedia - this
" model of team development was first proposed by Bruce Tuckman in 1965, who maintained that these phases are all necessary and inevitable - in order for the team to grow, to face up to challenges, to tackle problems, to find solutions, to plan work, and to deliver results."
So a bit of storming is useful - "Every group will enter the storming stage in which different ideas compete for consideration. The team addresses issues such as what problems they are really supposed to solve, how they will function independently and together and what leadership model they will accept. Team members open out to each other and confront each other's ideas and perspectives."
I guess a lot of you know this stuff already.
And I just wanted to point out that I think that the storming is done in an ultimately creative mode, and is about clarifying the standards here, keeping them high.
Ok I'll get off my soap box now... |

I have also noticed some conflict going on and think some of it has been helpful and healthy, so your post "sits right" with me. |

I like this idea.
I think differences of opinion are fine on a forum if they are done in a constructive and polite way.
We must remember to "attack" the post and not the poster. |

Well said, Catski. It cannot be emphasized enough that we need to disagree respectfully and review our posts before submitting to make sure we don't sound condescending. |
