my brother is going to be 22 this month and has not awful acne, but pretty bad and persisting acne [he's had this since he was about 16] on mainly his cheeks and forehead, a small bit around his nose and chin. He's starting to get scarring and discoloration. The problem is, he's a diesel mechanic, so he's always sweating/getting in close spaces/getting oil on his face, which helps to clog his pores.
He's not one for a systematic routine, as in something like proactive that has a bunch of steps to follow.
Can anyone reccommend something? Maybe a one time facewash with 1 or more steps after max?
Thanks dudettes! |

Has he ever tried using an BHA? Paula Begoun had a toner that had the salicylic in it. |

well, he's got to do some sort of routine (I doubt one step will do it, or even two)
Cleanser (of some sort)
Exfoliation (I use I Feel Pretty BHA/AHA which has worked WONDERS on my acne)
Acne treatment (Again, I Feel Pretty healing serum, or Best Bath store acne treatment gel)
I know that if I sweat (I live in AZ...115 here in the summer!) and DON'T wash my face, I break out more.
Perhaps he should wash his face every once in awhile? I don't know, everyone is different.
Boys are silly...my husband does NOTHING to his face and his face is pristine...I hate him for it
Not that he'd follow a routine if I helped him anyway...lazy butt! |

I think boys do better with going to the doctor (don't say dermatologist, it sounds girly) and getting something like benzaclin (antibiotic + benzoyl peroxide) -- their skin is better suited to the harsher ingredients like BP, and just that one step would make a huge difference. I think caling it medicine and having it be a prescription might make him more inclined to follow through. |

If he usually gets oil on his face I think an oil based celanser will be the best (OCM), and then another cleanser if he wants. My brothers (who works alot with cars) use oil (I've even seen them use butter at need...) to remove oil/grease after work, it's the only thing that works. |

As far as skincare goes:
*An exfoliating cleanser: all in one
*Toner
*Treatment Moisturiser
Diet is the best way of treating acne....healthy eating, lots of water.
Also supplements:
*Zinc
*Fish Oils/Vitamin A
*Vitamin C
*Good Multi Vitamin. |

I've used some of the Ice Elements products and like the acne serum very much. But before I could use the Ice Elements the only thing that helped me start healing was the B. Kamins acne gel with BP5%. Kamins also has a nice cleanser and toner. For some people the only thing that helps is Benzol Peroxide. I started with the gel and was eventually able to switch to the Ice Elements acne serum. I haven't tried the I Feel Pretty line so I can't comment on it. |

Go for proactive. If it doesn't work out, return them. But, I have heard lots of good thing about it and both my sister and brother are using it. |
