In the spirit of the recent reviews from manslayerliz about little gems from Burt's Bees, I thought I would toss in a couple of reviews for some Weleda products that my beauty/medicine cabinet would not be without.
First up is the Calendula Wind & Weather Balsam (in German it is "Weleda Baby & Kinde, Calendula Wind und Wetterbalsam") - In English I think it is called "Calendula Protection Cream" (but it is not a cream.. go figure) - well at least the two products have the same ingredients list, so I presume they are the same product.
This balsam has been a godsend in our house and I will never be without a tube. Some websites refer to it as a gel-like-cream, but it is more of a light-weight gel-like balm/ointment. It smooths on the skin without any pull and does not leave a greasy or uncomfortable residue.
It is SUPERB for any of the following and it soothed the area almost immediately and by morning it would be 90% (or sometimes 100%) cured.
- around the nose (when I had a cold and it was rubbed raw from tissues)
- chaffing (welts from evil underwires or underwear leg elastic, etc.)
- heat rash (I always get this in summer on my inner elbow and around my neck)
- irritation from jewelery (again, neclaces and summer heat are not a good combination for me)
I have not yet tried this on my lips, but I am sure it would be great - same goes for wind-ravaged cheeks. I used to use Lucas Papaw ointment for chaffing etc., but found the ointment was a bit thick and pulled a little when applied to the skin. Not so with this Weleda balsam though! I think this is what one of its biggest benefits - when your skin is raw and/or irritated you want something that you can apply gently and without have to rub/tug at the skin. (I still love the Papaw ointment, just prefer the texture of the Weleda one).
OFFICIAL SPIEL:
The water free rich Calendula wind and wetter balsam protects the sensitive skin on the face from the effects for harsh weather. Pure Beeswax and gentle Lanolin provide a natural protective layer without impairing the skin's natural functions. Sweet Almond Oil cares for dry skin, leaving it visibly smooth and supple. Calendula helps soothe the skin. Also good for children.
INGREDIENTS (notice it is water-free):
Ingredients (INCI): Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Lanolin, Beeswax (Cera Flava), Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Fragrance (Parfum)*, Limonene*, Linalool*, Benzyl Benzoate*, Benzyl Salicylate*, Geraniol*. * from natural essential oils |

My nose is going through just that right now. I should be getting shares in Kleenex. |
