how does everyone clean up the mess of powder flying everywhere? I have my dressing area coated in a fine dust of MMU which looks so gross but i have a hard time cleaning up because it seems to bond to every surface. My white fabric lampshades are the worst because when i try to brush off the MMU, it grinds into the fabric and leaves unsightly blotches and streaks...
can anybody help me? can lampshades be shampooed and rinsed in the shower? |

What are you doing that is causing so much "overspray"? 
Perhaps you could try to put less on the brush and use a MMU cup or bowl to tap the excess and swirl. Working the MMU down instead of around your face should help it to not go everywhere.
If that doesnt work just use a old bed sheet to cover everything, and yes, lamp shades can (usually) be washed in the shower...just make sure its dry before putting it back on!   |

i'm not sure how i'm doing it wrong but obviously i am 
My current MMU is a pressed compact version so maybe just getting it onto the brush is the problem? I have to swirl the brush around to pick up any MMU so maybe it tosses it into the air when i do that?
I'm going to be trying a loose MMU in the next few weeks as soon as it arrives so i'll try your suggestion of a small bowl to swirl and tap into...what type of container does everyone use for this? Is it specifically for MMU?
I'm going to wash my lampshades this weekend now that i know i can shower them |

| UGloGirl has a Petal Bowl (for lighter coverage) and a Kabuki Kup (for heavier coverage) to do your "mineral swirling" in. It looks like they'd keep powder flyaways down. I'm thinking of getting something like this. I usually put my makeup on at my desk at work (I'm in a cubicle farm) and then I have to swab down my desk to clean off the mess ... I use unfragranced diaper wipes for this, they're very useful to have around! |

Boy, do I understand. I have it all around the sink in my bathroom. And, only last week did I accidentally drop an entire jar of Bare Escentuals Eye Shadow and it fell down the side of the bathroom wall and all over the floor and white bathroom rug. Ugh! There was Pink everywhere! |

i think i'll purchase a cheap glass ramekin at Wal-mart for swirling...it doesn't look all that different from thos nice bowls except for no design....i'll pick a nice green or blue one though so it'll be a little bit pretty  |

Does the Kabuki Kup look like a 3/$1.00 plastic dessert cup to anyone else?

| I always move my MMU and powders into a wide container so I can tap my brush to dust any excess back into the container.. I also dust excess into my hands and work from there.. But inevitably I still end up with light dusting of powder so I just huff-puff blow everything onto the floor and vacuum. |

| I remember reading a post recently about using a cute little glass for swirling and I thought it was such a great idea! I looked the other day at the Drug Store in their glasses section and couldn't find anything perfect, but tonight ... after reading this post I thought I'd take a look around the house ... and I found the perfect little glass! It's actually a voltive candle holder ... perfect size. So ladies, if you're out looking for a cute little swirl glass, check out the candle section too and you might find something perfect. |

I used to make a terrific mess with my loose MMU. I found some really nice refillable kabuki brushes on eBay and have 1 each for the MMU, the finishing powder and the cheek color with a spare. I just ordered 4 more for my sister-in-law. I had tried refillable brushes before but had a terrible time with them cracking, not locking shut, etc. These, though, are very nice and they happen to be a lot less expensive than the others. Plus it makes it much easier to take my MMU with me.

I use the tops of old jars - I have one for each type of powder. I just spoon a tiny bit of MMU with a spatula onto each lid and I rarely make any mess  |

| I use little dishes designed for soy-sauce dipping for my mineral makeup swirling. I have a couple of lovely elegant ones for home (and, since they're dishwasher safe, I press them into service at the table when I need dipping dishes.) For traveling, I have a little plastic version of the same thing (very light weight and unbreakable.) To save my vanity from excess powder, I use one of those flexible cutting mats. They wash up perfectly and can be used for their original purpose as kitchen cutting mats as well. Love that multi-tasking... |

yes, it looks like a plastic ice cream dish that i used to play in the sandbox with when i was a kid...
I may also check out the glassware section of my local dollar store...i'm positive they would have something really useful for a buck... |

| I keep a hand towel on my sink when I'm using my MMU brushes. It catches all the fall-out. |
