My last Julie Hewett order had two samples of Julie Hewett cream eyeliners, Lily in the Snow and Rue Burgundy. I tried them as eyeliner, but didn't care for them. They don't seem to stay in place, and I wasn't wild about the colors anyhow. (My preferred eyelining look, when I bother, is to tightline with a dark brown liner right at the lashline.)
But then I noticed that the consistency of them was a lot like the taupe cream eyeshadow in the Ombre package (which, incidentally, is my 'desert island' eyeshadow). So I tried patting a tiny amount on my lids with my fingers as a sheer wash of eyeshadow. Really a nice look--you can sheer them out as much as you like. The Rue Burgundy is a brownish, brickish color that sheers out to a warm, slightly shimmered coppery brown wash. Lilies in the snow sheers out to a cool, white shimmery wash. Together you can approximate a champagne wash. Not sparkly but shimmery--a bit like MAC's satin consistency, but not powdery at all.
Use too much and they crease like mad, at least on my hooded eyelids, so they aren't suitable for more dramatic looks. (Unless you prime first and maybe use a powder shadow base. That might work.) Now I'm thinking about ordering the Newsprint Bleu with my next order to try that as a shadow too... |
