Anyone ever heard of these? They may be an Atlanta thing, but I heard about them on the radio the other day & the ladies were talking about how they (the shoes) felt like they might actually work to tone/tighten butt & legs.

I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for people wearing those(I'm in Atlanta too..for the most part)! My husband will be so impressed/horrified when I explain to him what those things are. 
Very interesting.
ETA: Just showed my DH and he said there used to be similar shoes for men, particularly basketball players, that claimed to help increase jumping height. |

| They look like they're a take off on the Masai MBT shoes. I doubt thong sandals help you tone muscles. |

There was a thread about these things last year sometime, and about how they don't work at all.
Unfortunately, I don't remember what those shoes were called to find the thread for you.  |

angelina, I don't see why thong sandals wouldn't, especially with the weird sole to get over with each step. (iaimei, I bet the soles are somewhat spongy.)

Harmonster, maybe this^ is the brand that was discussed? I don't have these or MBTs either -- no idea if any of them work.
My own guess is that the MBTs would have a slight effect on the abs, and these sandlas would have a slight effect on the legs, but one probably benefits from simply wearing different styles of shoes often, and most importantly, walking a lot. |

| Woah! My first thought on seeing the shoes is that they're not shoes - they're clogs! I've a feeling they weight a lot Don't think it may be a good thing for those with weak ankles! |

They're obviously poor knock offs of the MBT Trainers that are sold in the Bliss catalogue and elsewhere (which btw do have their benefits).
The MBTs take a little getting used to. Looking at these, my guess would be that anybody who wears them for any length of time is in serious danger of breaking their neck. If they don't hurt themselves that way, they will most definitely suffer some pretty significant lower back pain.
Just proves that some people will buy anything.... |

Yep, I thought the same thing and I have 2 pair of the MBTs, which do have their benefits, I agree. These, I wouldn't wear for fear of breaking my neck among other body parts. |

| My first thought on seeing those? I'd break my twig-like ankles within 2 seconds flat! I have really narrow feet and there is no way these thongs would actually be tight enough on my foot to save me from a broken ankle or two. I have enough trouble walking in regular flip-flops and am guaranteed to step off the side of them frequently. These would snap my boney ankles in half! |

| I actually think I would do much better in these than in stilettos, but I think most women would feel really self-conscious about wearing these in public, especially if they made one's gait awkward. |

Exactly! Well said, Katee!
I suspect that MBT has the roly-poly sole patent locked up fairly tightly, and these folks could only knockoff thongs, boots, and clogs!
Darn it, if silly stuff like this is actually being produced and marketed, I need to get my lazy butt working on producing and marketing MY ideas for silly stuff!
BTW I have MBTs and love them! If you speedwalk in them, they really do help the butt. |
