im thinking of adding a vitamin c serum to my routine to help fade hyperpigmentation but wasn't sure where to start.. i'd been using kanebo freshel white c but wasnt seeing any difference so thought i'd ask here for recs!
my skin is combo and acneprone; unfortunately has a few cystic acne that sprang up after i tried IPF moisturising pearl cream for a few days so im looking for something that wont break me out (and will definitely help with acne, if possible)
any suggestions?? |

i've been using PSF 15% Vit C serum with satisfaction. i've heard a lot of rave on Vivier too... but it's pricey!
they are both on EDS!! |

If you are acne-prone, I would suggest you start with 10% concentration and without Vit. E in the serum. Higher concentrations and Vit. E may provoke outbreaks. You can try Skinceuticals as they are an established brand for Vit. C serums and not as pricey as Vivier. |

If you're first time user,I'd like to suggest that you should start off with (at least) 10% or 12% concentrate first to see your skin reaction to Vit
C.
I'm using Cellularskin RX 12% Vit C serum and very pleased with it. But my skin is dry. You might want to check out Vivier's which gets quite a lot of good reviews in EDS. |

I'm using Vitamin C for the first time and decided on PSF's. So far, so good. It's not too pricy and I see some results. |

I don't mean to highjack the thread onto another topic, but am just making a suggestion to address the skin issues you have.
Since you're concerned about acne & hyperpigmentation, have you considered MaMa Lotion in addition to a VitC serum? Your skin sounds like it's perfect for a high grade exfoliation cream to counteract the issues you've mentioned. The C will provide antioxidant properties but you may need something in addition to it as it takes a long time to see marked results for these issues with just a C serum.
I've recently added the MaMa lotion to my routine, using it every 3rd day, and am very pleased with it. Many sites selling it provide pictures so you can see for yourself what it does.
Just a thought.... |

I have always been a big fan of Janson Beckett's C&C. If someone is new to C's I highly recommend this product. JB C&C is a very unique product. Great for combo to dry skin type. It works outstandingly with JB's Mineral Prep and Alpha Derma CE.
Recently I have been using Vivier. Where I am a long time user of C I feel comfortable with 20%. Vivier is the best C I have ever used for my present needs. It is highly spreadable, gentle but potent. My skin has responded to Vivier after a few weeks.
I have been a member of EDS for over 3 years and read many rave reviews on Vivier. I am so happy I finally decided to try it. |

I'm using Cellular Skin Rx C+Firming serum and really like it. The price is resonable as well. |

My fav Vitamin C is Kate Somerville Total Vitamin, it is very spreadable and you don't have to use a lot so it goes a long way. |

The C E Ferulic is amazing. It's expensive, but I finally decided to give it a try. I don't regret it. My skin has changed for the better. |

thanks for your suggestions everyone!! im going to start out with a 10%
arya- im currently already DEFINITELY getting enough exfoliation- cycling epidermxII, dermalogica microfoliant, psf pumpkin peel, and jm bioglycolic cleanser & bioclear cream... if i add another exfoliant my face might start coming off! bummed that all of that did not prevent this latest outburst of cystic acne though... if it persists im just gonna throw in the towel and go see a derm. |

Winnie-I just started using Jansen Beckett's AlphaDerma CE Anti-Aging System which inludes their C&C Facial Serum. Do you know the % of vit C in this product? What type of results should I expect? I'm finding the area around my eyes is dry making fine lines more pronounced. Not sure if it's the vit c or OkuSil intensive eye treatment. |

I spoke with Jansen-Beckett's customer service and was told that the C&C serum only has 5% vit c. She said the % used to be listed on the website and has since been removed.
At 5%-is it worth even using this product? |

Actually C&C contain two different forms of stable Vit. C. You get 5% MAP and 5% SA (unless the formula has been changed). I am quite confident the C&C would not cause dryness around the eyes. Several forum member's had problems with Okusil causing dryness. I myself am not using Okusil.
I believe this is why C&C has a lower concentration of C's:
Quote: |
Magnesium ascorbyl phosphate is a water-soluble derivative of vitamin C rapidly gaining popularity in skin care. It is nonirritating and more stable than vitamin C. Most importantly, magnesium ascorbyl phosphate appears to have the same potential as vitamin C to boost skin collagen synthesis but is effective in significantly lower concentrations. Overall, magnesium ascorbyl phosphate appears to be a better choice than vitamin C for people with sensitive skin and those wishing to avoid any concomitant exfoliating effects. (Most vitamin C formulas are highly acidic and therefore produce exfoliation.)" - Smartskin.com |
I very much like C&C and have used it for years. C Serums are such a personal thing. Right now I am using Vivier 20 and love it! I can't use Cellex C as it dehydrates my mature skin.
Ingredients C&C:
Demineralized Spring Water, Mulberry Extract, Polysorbate 20, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Sodium Ascorbate, Hops Extract, Rosemary Extract, Hesperidin Methyl Chalcone, Bitter Orange Extract, Horsetail Extract, Pine Cone Extract, Lemon Extract, Hyaluronic Acid, Glycerine, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Propylene Glycol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben. |

I second the JB C&C serum recommendation.
If you check out their website (janson-beckett dot com), you get 5% of magnesium ascorbyl phosphate and sodium ascorbate. So yes, the percentage is a lot lower compared to other vit c serums.
But for the purpose that amami mentioned - fade hyperpigmentation, I think the C&C is the best for this because it does have mulberry extract (helps with hyperpigmentation) as a second ingredient on the list. I also felt it did the best at "brightening" my skin compared to the other brands I've tried
I've tried Viver's 10%, Vivier's C&E and PSF's 15% as well, but didn't like them. I think FOR MY SKIN the l'ascorbic type of vit c just doesn't work as well. So if you find that you've tried a lot of vit c brands and have not found your favourite, pay attention to the type/derivative of Vit C in the ingredients.
There's a special price going on right now for DDF's C3 serum that I've always wanted to try - it has 3 different derivates of vit c so one of them is bound to work! |

I have tried C serums by Skinceuticals, and Cellex C, and Janson Beckett.
I like the Janson Beckett C&C best, my skin seems to drink it in, my skin glows a bit from it, it doesn't start off any acne. I also like the extra antioxidants they have added apart from the C, extra protection from pollutants in the day.
The Cellex C I tried a while back, and I would probably say it was a bit more effective than the C&C. C&C still my favourite though! |

I have recently been using the Body Shop's Vitamin C Skin Boost. I think it has silicone in it and I am not sure about the % of Vit C but it does seem to be having some positive impact on my skin which is more than I can say for the John Masters Organic Vit C serum I was using before and it was double the price of the body shop product . |
