DH and I are going to start taking ballroom dance lessons. I've danced some before and I already know that I prefer to dance in heels, so I'd like to just go ahead and get some ballroom shoes. Does anyone have any recs for comfortable brands or good, reliable websites? TIA!

Sorry, no recs, but that'll be a blast ExclamationI keep asking my DH to take dancing lessons w/ me. When I watch DWTS, my legs actually make small movements (subconsciously) Laughing I think we'll have to wait a bit. I was also half-seriously looking for a dance class for just ME Laughing My DD takes dance, and I did for 7 yrs when I was younger. I still have the fever Laughing

Thanks for the moral support, TJSmom! I'm totally excited! I actually used to take swing classes back in high school, and I remember it being really exhilarating, especially when you do fun tricks like lifts, etc. I can't wait to give it a shot with DH!

I bought my first and only pair of ballroom dancing shoes through ebay simply because there was no place close to where I live to try them on before buying. The pair I got was flexible and comfortable enough but not very sturdily made and a little too big for me. They weren't very expensive but next time I'll just pay more and get shoes that are a better fit and of better quality. I dance in regular heels in my beginners' class and though they're cute my feet usually ache by the time class is over. Good luck with taking a class with DH; that sounds fun!

manslayerliz,

I don't know where you live, but if you're in vancouver, I can't say ENOUGH about http://www.rinosshoesforthestars.com/ rino's shoes. That's where my swing shoes are from.

I've heard good things about http://www.dancediscount.com/index.asp this place from several people, but I've never gone there myself. They also have a webstore component.

Also online there's http://www.dancestore.com/dancestore.com. Every single person I know who has a pair of Aris Allens would rather lose than arm than part with the shoes.

So, I'm not sure what kind of ballroom you'll be doing, I've danced various types of swing for about 10 years (mostly casually and socially, though way back when I taught some beginner stuff and did a few demos) But swing is a little different, for instance, usually i do not wear heels, I prefer an oxford style shoe. or a tennis shoe with suede over the sole.

However, Even though you prefer heels, and many ballroom dances require heels I WILL recommend that you stick to about a 2 inch heel for starters. thats what a lot of the Latin dancers I know use for practices and learning new routines (these are women who dance in 4 inch heels o.O )

Have an awesome time dancing, I miss it and have just started getting back into it.
