How can my skin go from okay to overnight a nightmare. Everyday I wake up, I have new whiteheads, (the kind that are showing that you can pop). I mean everyday. I wake up in the morning and I have three-five. When I get home from work I have another 2-3. They are surface ones for the most part and I can get rid of them fairly quickly, but I have not changed ANYTHING. How can my skin just start breaking out in whiteheads daily? what causes this? Has anyone else had this happen?? HELP PLEASE |

Hi, bergquis. Yikes. You said nothing has changed so I'm assuming that means skincare products. My suggestion would be to examine what you're eating, changes in your environment, stress level, medication, and other factors that affect you. It may not be just one, but a combination of things causing your whiteheads. If you can't absolutely control it, try seeing a dermatologist. Hope it gets better soon. |

Berquis it could also be the change in seasons. My skin always reacts negatively to the change of seasons.
If you are living in Hawaii (perfect weather 365) or some place the seasons' are not an issue, I would consider compiling a complete list of all products, including things like shampoo, laundry soap etc, all food & drink that you use on a daily to weekly basis. See if something is new or different in the last couple of weeks. The other options are stress or hormones. |

That sounds odd, have you sought medical advice or seen a dermatologist? |

could it be clogged pores? or maybe bacteria building up in things like your pillow? |

First of all, thank you for your posts. I have been to the derm, who said, lets put you on minocycline, which I was on for over a month and it was making me sick. My pillow case, I change daily, and nothing including food have I changed. I am going to have my blood work done tomorrow, because I am experiencing other symptoms that I wonder if they are related. I have felt bad about myself, I look horrible (skin) so I don't want to get out of bed. I feel depressed and I am feeling like I am sick, like I have something, maybe viral? Can you have an internal bacteria? My joints are sore for no reason and I cry a lot. Do you think I am hormonal? No appetite either. None whatsoever. Someone suggested to have my thyroid checked. That my symptoms sound like a thyroid problem. Anyone hear have skin issues due to a "bad" thyroid? I heard that sometimes having sudden skin conditions might have something to due with something internal going on. I feel very sad and cry a lot too. I cry because I feel bad, and look bad I come hear because you gals always seem to offer words of encouragement. thank you |

Hi Bergquis, I am so sorry to hear you are going through this. It's always hard when we are not feeling well physically/emotionally but harder still when we perceive ourselves as looking bad too. I remember reading that Librarygirl was suffering some skin troubles due to an existing thyroid condition. I will post that thread here in case it's of help to you. Try not to despair too much--I am sure there is answer to what's happening to you and that with some patience and the help of your doctor that you will be able to find something to remedy it.

Your skin deterioration is due to your thyroid problem, not connected to Retin-A. Underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) causes changes in the skin. Your description of puffy skin is classical for the condition. Another name for it is "myxoedema". There is extra mucus-like substance accumulating in the deeper layers of the skin. Retin-A would not be able to rectify that. Once you have adequate thyroid hormone replacement and your body systems are stabilized again, you should be able to see improvement in the skin. In the meantime, check with your doctor or dermatologist whether there is any point in using Retin-A. I think your priority now is to get the thyroid condition under control. You must remember to regularly take the thyroid hormone replacement every day. The thyroid imbalance affects all of your body systems, not only the skin. You will find overall improvement in everything, including mood, energy level, etc. |

I am going through the same thing. My whiteheads started a few weeks ago. They are the tiny ones that can be easily popped. I hate them. I would wake up with a few and and as the day goes along, I get a few more etc etc. I have acne rosacea and when I went to the derm, she prescribed klaron. I am already on noritate and oral antibiotics. I didn't change anything in my routine as well.
I wonder if weather is the culprit I am still getting whiteheads but instead of 10-20, I get less than 5 a day. Still...
Hope your skin recovers soon. |

That's no fun!
I agree with the other girls, if you have not made any changes in your skincare routine, you should be checking other factors. I would first think about your diet (are you eating lots of fatty foods)? It may be stress, climate, etc. Think about any changes your body has been through lately and that will probably lead you to your answer. If you can't figure it out, I would go to a cosmetician and she can clean out your face and give you products to help prevent whiteheads. |

That is no fun to go through all of that. It may be possible that it is your thyroid and blood check is the only way to go to find out.
Let us know what the results are. |

Hi Berquis.... so sorry about your troubles! It's hard enough feeling lousy, but when one feels like they look bad...it makes everything worse. I have gotten a sudden outburst of whiteheads when I have used a moisturizer that was too rich or a cleanser that was too drying. I have also gotten them as a result of friction from rubbing my skin when putting on moisturizer. I don't know if this will help you or not, but I sure hope something will soon. Take care.

Hi Skincare, you might be on to something with the Thyroid and I am currently awaiting my blood work and (TSH) testing to come back. I say this because I have been feeling really bad lately as well. In the "looks" department but more so feeling sleepy, achy, dry skin, dry nails, no appetite and it has been going on for about three weeks. No other signs of a "bug" of any sort. I have not changed routine, food, (don't eat greasy) lots of veggies all the same, but I ask of you skincare, do you have information to lead you to believe thyroid ie. experience? I just ask why you think this? I am just hoping that their must be some direct relation to my skin (all of a sudden) and the way I am feeling. I am not hoping for thyroid, but I am hoping for a solution and not my derm to tell me, "sorry you have to live with it". Thanks |
