Hi everyone - this forum is great! I am having major skin troubles and need advice! I am 37 with fair skin. I have rosacea - with the broken blood vessels, not really the pustulues/papules...but I also have blackheads, whiteheads, and wrinkles. How can I treat the blackheads/whiteheads and wrinkles without aggravating the rosacea?

I really wanted to get microdermasion but I'm told it's not good for rosacea people. I also wanted to get a facial steamer but same thing, bad for rosacea.

These blackheads are driving me crazy! But so is the rosacea! And so are the wrinkles!

Help me please!
Thanks!!
Linda

My skin is really flaky also. If I don't exfoliate every single day it is all flaky and then my makeup looks bad.

I don't know if there is a way to get rid of blackheads and whiteheads without making you irratated. Because rosacea usually means your skin doesn't have enough protection. while getting rid of blackheads and whiteheads usually means exfiolating, more specifically, acid treatment. This is very stimulating.

My suggestion is that you had better treat your rosacea issue first, after that, you can start to treat blackheads and whiteheads. But i guess it will take you quite a bit of time to solve the rosacea issue...

However, I think rosacea is kinda health issue while blackheads and whiteheads are beauty issue. So health issue goes first.

If you haven't done already I think you should definitely think about going to a dermatologist first. The blackheads and whiteheads may also be connected to the Rosacea.
Pevonia do a line for people with Rosacea, but considering you have broken blood vessels then make sure you wear a good sunscreen. Like januarui said, it would probably be best to sort out your rosacea first before tackling any of the other problems and then you can go about finding some good products for your skin.

Try a microfiber/microdermabrasion cloth or sponge. You can get the PSF cloth here at EDS or do a search the forum and you'll find info on many sources. I like the "microdermabrasion" sponges sold on Ebay by Stan or his wife YummySweetz:

http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZyummysweetz

Also look into the Clarisonic skin brush. It's an expensive initial investment but well worth the money. They offer 3 brush head types - regular, sensitive, and delicate. Delicate might be best for you. You'll see lots of feedback on Clarisonic here on EDS and many people consider it one of the best skincare investments they've made. I know I do!

If you can't afford the Clarisonic, you might want to consider what looks like a Clarisonic knockoff:

I hope that you are able to find a good derm (not always easy) in your area who can give you a Rx to target the different problems.

SKIP THE DERM! They are useless. Sorry if anyone here is a derm. I have had three and NOT one diagnosed my skin correctly. The first one, stood back about a foot and said..."oh wow, that is a nasty rash". Here is an RX to some cream. That did not clear it up. So off to the next in my insurance plan. He took lots of pictures, I told him what the last derm said and showed him the RX, he said "oh god, NO you should never put that on your face" (why geez, I am the patient, how would I know??). He then said I have Rosacea. He gave me an RX to a cream. That did nothing. Off to my next derm. Who said, "you don't have Rosacea", you have adult acne!! Why thank you..what should I do. He then gave me some RX and off I went! NOPE, no luck...UNTIL UNTIL UNTIL...I went to a med spa. I had a deep cleansing facial and told the girl what I was experiencing. She took the time to listen. She then said, you need a good cleansing method. You are not treating the cause, you are treating the symptom. Guess what. Last Thursday, I started a new regime, and I have not had one, NOT ONE breakout since. (fingers crossed) My skin feels amazing...now I am cleaning up the old breakouts and scars. I am so excited I could go scream from the mountain tops. NO RX's!!! Just plain old good cleansing!!! (sorry so long, I am just not agreeing with the derms, who they have a motto I understand. "Don't kill 'em, don't cure 'em)! Good Luck

Bergquis, maybe you can share your new regime with linda88.

I think good cleansing is the answer to her issues as well.

Well, I explained to my gal what I was doing, and I know some of you ladies will disagree with what my gal said, I know things are different for everyone, so I am merely adding what worked/changed for me. I was using a cleansing facial brush or a wash cloth to put my cleanser on and clean. She said that I was actually aggravating my skin and causing more oils and breakouts. (even know I thought I was being very gentle) She said your hands are the BEST way to clean your face hands down (no pun intended) on TOP of the fact that even know I have used every product under the sun, both expensive and cheap, I was not using the "right" products. So after examining my skin for 30 minutes, and listening to me on what my biggest grief about my skin was, she offered me some products. She told me that I am not treating my skin well either. I have been using Clenziderm MD by Obagi since last Thursday night, I have not had ONE clogged pore or one breakout since. How is that possible. I am telling you, my skin could have clogged pores in a matter of hours. Now nothing. She said that many people feel their skin is oily because they have breakouts. I thought mine was, because it was...but she said that my breakouts and clogged pores are caused from my skin not breathing. It was dehydrated under the top layer of oil. But my products were not penetrating the top layer, so my pores were clogging. Along with Clenziderm MD, I am using Skinceuticals B5 Hydrating gel. At first I thought, NO it is oily. But my skin just sucks it up. I am now understanding that I could not get to the next layer of my skin to clear it up. NOW I am. I could not be happier!!!

Thanks for the tips everyone. Bergquis, if you don't mind me asking, how much were these products? Don't get me wrong, I'm willing to spend if it'll help me! You're not in Ohio, are you? I would love to go to your gal.

Hi Linda88
I live in CA. I wish you could go see her, I think you would love what she can do for you.

The products were not cheap, however I am finding, only using them a few days now, that you don't need a lot of the products. So I am guessing that the Cleanser and Pore Therapy will last me about 4 months they were $52.00 total. So $13.00 a month. The BP that comes with the kit will last at least six months so roughly $8.00 a month and the B5 was $58.00 and will last me at least 8 months. (so $7.25 month) that is a steal, and I would pay twice that. And HAVE when I buy all the other stuff that NEVER works. I believe EDS sells all of these products here. You should check them out. Very Happy
