I am just so tired of being overly sensitive. I work in customer service (and I have for YEARS) but today someone made me cry b/c they were being so rude to me. I was a very sensitive child and young adult and I always thought I would outgrow it - you know, sort of harden up over time. But I'm in my 30s now and I still crumble like a sheet of paper if anyone challenges me or is rude to me - how can I get over this? Are there any books, seminars, websites, support groups? Or should I just try to accept that this is my personality? It affects my career (I'm convinced it's why I'm not more successful) and my personal life - I can't take any punches. What's wrong w/ me? |

Hi Bunny. I hear you, I have been what I feel overly sensitive as well at one time in my life and it can hinder how well you do in your career and in life. One thing that really helped me was reading motivational books and listening to motivating speakers. A really good book I started out with was called "The Four Agreements", quick read, but boy it does wonders. It talks about people who are aggressive and how that it there problem and not yours. Work on thinking positively about yourself and remembering that people being rude is not a personal attack on YOU, these people are who they are and they are this way in everything they do. I think people that are this way to others have a self esteem issue and they like "beating up" on others, especially when others crumble (like I once did). I focused on remembering it is not me, and I am a good person and I would kill them with kindness. That got them everytime. It didn't change overnight, and I still have a time or two that I fail at it, having an overly sensitive day, and I break. But work on remembering that being sensitive is not a fault, it means you are concerned and care and don't believe that peole should act that way to others...then don't allow them too. Good Luck |
