I've recently noticed that I'm getting nose to mouth lines, I'm only 26! I drink plenty of water, moisturise and generally look after myself and my skin pretty well. What can I do to reduce these lines, they're not from laughing or talking, these ones are different. The lines I get from laughing or talking are not as deep and smooth themselves out after a while.
I must admit I'm considering fillers or botox! Is there anything I can do before I go down the cosmetic procedure route? Also, should I go with fillers, which are best for this area (I know I would need to see a specialist, I would just like some ideas)?
Thanks Laura |

I'm considering fillers too, but I am older than you. At 26 maybe it doesnt look as bad as you think? As friends for an honest opinion. |

Other ideas before you resort to the more radical ones:
Look into the facial exercise programs and see if there is anything you respond to regarding lifting of the face/cheekbone area or tightening that area in general, or pulling the face outwards or perhaps exercises that are mentioned specifically for the purpose of those lines that concern you.
A good concealer for that area. People here rave about Lauren Hutton's sheer concealer, but there maybe others.
A good tightening serum with C or matrixyl or copper peptides. (this will be a slow journey with research & trial and error)
A search on any of these here will yield multiple threads to read.
Hopefully other posters will chime in with specifics. |

Hi,
just wondering if anyone has found any remedy for this, like face exercises or creams or anything, I am about to go down the fillers route, but was hoping to avoid it.
Thank you

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll look into them.
Today I exfoliated my face and the lines seem less obvious so maybe I just needed a good scrub! |

The first thing is to use suncreen protector, and stay away from the Sun as much as possible.
UVA/UVB is the major cause for skin aging. |

Three items that have improved my nasolabial lines:
CP serum
MSM and Biosil supplements
daily sunscreen |

At age 26, you already consider Botox or filler? I hope you do realize that they can only provide temporary solution, last you maybe around 6 months to 1 year the most. Think about the up-keeping cost from this point on... I agree with others said, maybe it's not as bad as you think and you definitely can explore skincare with actives that stimulates collagen production. |

Since ive been using retin a and a serum with matrixyl in it Ive seen a softening of the lines there. They're not gone but seem less noticeable. |

I am 23 and i have noticed those lines!. On other days they are not there. I think they happen from dry skin in the area. Putting on lots of moisturizer wouldnt work if they are not effective. I think mine happend from getting electrolysis in the upper lip area which drys the skin from the moisture for that area On other days i dont see them guess when im not dehydrated |

You consider this at age of 26?I found this line after 35,this's a signal to show the loss of elasticity.
I'm looking for good solution now,and plan to try Valmont.I wish it can work! |

botox is not really for nasolabial folds. What works really well and lasts at least a year(at least for me) is radiesse. It can completely make those lines that run from the nose to mouth and also marionette lines disappear instantly. Lasts way longer than restylane and collagen. Artefill is a permanent filler but if injected improperly you could have a permanent problem. Yes skin products can soften lines(mostly surface wrinkles...crows feet etc, but for the deeper nasal folds a filler is the best solution. |

I have these too. I'm 30, but I've had them since my mid 20's at least. I think mostly due to the shape of my face and smile and really high cheekbones. I hate it. They are not all the way down to my lips, but more half way. Still, they are the #1 thing that makes me look older and that detracts from my looks. I don't really have any noticeable lines or wrinkles yet, so if I got rid of those and evened out my skin tone I would probably look 5-10yrs younger.
I couldn't imagine putting a filler under my skin though. For one thing, I heard that you can feel it under the skin and it's this hard lump like thing. That just creeps me out. Also, there are no real studies or information long term if it is safe, or if there are any side effects, like even more loss of elasticity or something. It's one of those things, that I wish I could, but I don't know if it's worth it. I have heard of people using retinol to increase the collagen in the area. What about using highlighters and illumination makeup as a temp. fix to decrease them? Since it's basically the shadow of the fold that stands out so much, I find even a concealer on the line helps to diminish the shadow. That's all I have for my dark under eye circles, no perm. fix there. |

Thanks. Has anyone here successfully reduced these lines with facial exercises? The funny thing is, I just can't stop myself from using those muscles there. When I completely relax my face, it more then half disappears. But I always seem to have those muscles tensed. |

Thanks everyone. Yes I am 26 and have considered fillers. I'm not going to use them now, although later on I may do so.
I'm thinking the lines are mainly from being dehydrated as I work in an air-conditioned room. I drink lots of water but the lines are still there. I hate them. I'm going to look into other options before I do anything drastic. |

I notice that some very young people are talking about lines from nose to mouth. Ladies, I do think most people have these lines. Notice a child's face if their face is not totally relaxed. Without fillers, Botox and thousands of dollars of cosmetic surgery your face will have and get expression lines.
What concerns me is if you start having cosmetic procedures in you twenties and thirties, what will you face look like at 50? I have seen woman with expressionless faces. Please be careful what you wish for.
Guess I should stop lecturing. AlphaDermaCE and Mineral Prep greatly helped my fine lines, wrinkles and skin firmness. Ferox by Veld is awesome to use as a makeup base to fill in those nose to mouth lines. I also use the Quasar SP. Until I got the SP I used the Quasar Baby Q. Both devices plump the skin nicely.
For facial exercise I have used the Facial Flex for years. As of late I have not been very faithful and it shows. |

Winnie, well said!
Fillers just hide problem areas, while the problem is still there; fillers do not restore face to the original state. There is nothing wrong in using fillers, but if it is possible to find ways not to use fillers and botox as long as possible this would be a way to go. |

Look at Taylor from Bold and the Beautiful. She just looks odd and expressionless now, and she used to be so beautiful!
I prefer a few expression lines to a blank expressionless face. You watch her talk, her upper lips barely move! |

About 2-3 years ago, I noticed I got these nasolabial lines that were deep. It seemed they came out of nowhere. I got really worried, and thought I might have needed to get braces since I thought the cause was that my teeth were sticking out. But since I joined EDS and learned to take care of my skin better, using gentle cleanser, DMAE serum, and some other skincare products, I barely have these lines now. The depth is minimal, and the actual lines are very light. I can't really pinpoint to a specific product that cured it, or at least I am unwilling to since I don't know for sure. (Sorry I can't be more helpful. I noticed that the first time these lines were minimized was when I was using a nighttime moisturizer I got at Vitacost.) But I know this is totally curable. It does take a while. Also, get plenty of sleep. These lines come back (but not as bad) if you don't get a good night sleep. |

I've never thought about these lines around my mouth, even after reading all the great information on EDS about anti-aging. I would use up my samples, and not be to impressed with the short-term outcome... But, after I fell in love with the great scent of Kate Somerville's Deep tissue repair... I continued to use this and found my nasolabial lines to decrease (not disappear)... even though I never really knew they had gotten so deep. I love this stuff. I don't think I could give it up no matter the cost. I'll just have to keep looking out for some great Internet discounts, although I know this jar will last me awhile. |

Why don't you see your cosmetic dermatologist? They can decide what is best for you, your skin and for your age. |
