I will be travelling to San Francisco mid-May. If anyone is familiar with this city, could you recommend a nice hotel? Thanks. |

I recommed you look some up at TripAdvisor. I used it to plan a three week trip to the US in January. We had an amazing trip. The recommedations on TA are so detailed and accurate.
I have been to SF several times and like to stay close to Union square.
We ended up staying at Hotel Chancellor this time. I loved the location, it is really close to shopping. I also loved the service we recieved. Sightseeing and resturant tips where really good it, made our stay in SF so much better.
Hubby would go back just for the food. We would stay there again. |

Price range would be $250-$300/night. I'll check out TripAdvisor as well. Thanks Liss and Yogi |

Hi Penelope,
I don't know if you've found a hotel yet but when you come to SF check out the Marriott. Even if you don't stay there, go up to the View Lounge on the top floor after dark. The drinks are a little pricey but the views are spectacular! It's got some of the best views of the bay bridge! Make sure you check out both sides. The Marriott is in a great location. It's walking distance from the Powell St. Cable Car (the end of the line that goes to Fisherman's Wharf), good shopping (Union Square and Westfield Center), and great restaurants. The address is 55 Fourth Street and since your trip is comming up soon, you might be able to find a good deal on a travel site (like hotwire or orbitz).
Other great hotels to look into are The Sir Francis Drake and Mark Hopkins (although I'm not sure of any of their rates). If you're looking for any fine dining recs- the Cliff House and the Beach Chalet are fantastic! I'm not sure what type of trip you're looking for but the Gold Spike is North Beach is a fun restaurant/bar too and I always have a great meal at The Stinking Rose (both on Columbus).
Hope you have a wonderful vacation! |

Thank you all so much for your suggestions. I contacted many of the hotels that were recommended and several others and finally found an available room at the Fairmont. The reservation clerk I spoke with today said something must be going on in the city that weekend since more than 70% of the hotels are sold out.
Again, thank you so much. |

Thank you all so much for your hotel recommendations - we stayed to the Fairmont Hotel which was absolutely gorgeous!!!! It's located on Nob Hill. Apparently the TV show 'Hotel' was filmed there several years ago. My legs have never been in better shape as the hills are incredibly steep. SF is certainly one of the most beautiful and friendly cities I have visited and look forward to returning one day. |
