I have heard of accupressure or massage being used, but don't know of anyone using accupuncture.

But there are a ton of articles out there!

I've heard that dogs are good candidates for acupuncture - cats tend to move around too much and won't sit or lie still for long enough.

Hope it goes well. Please report back as this is something I'm fascinated by, having had excellent results myself.

I have a wonderful vet that uses acupuncture and has dramatic results with her practice. I have seen dogs totally unable to walk be restored to to total mobility through the process. Many times dogs that are facing extensive surgery or possibly being put down can regain total mobility. I am a believer and would without any doubt seek that type of treatment. With that being said, realize it is not a one time procedure, it has to be on going.

she is a rescue dog and has already had torn crutia (?) surgery on her knee but her hips have damage so they think that a supr is hitting her spine so Iam hoping that this new vet will be able to do the trick

One of the vets I use does acupuncture. I have not used that service but will if the opportunity should arise. If your animal had an issue I think its worth checking out.

I'm learning Donna Eden's Energy Medicinewww.innersource.net - including doing EM on animals.

I've found some great sources online and I have Titanya (Donna's daughter) cat meridian chart (she has one for dogs and horses as well): www.titanyaspirit.com/energy_medicine_shopping.html

I know it's a little Off Topic but I'll post some links to online info that might be of interest to other animal lovers:

Here's a good how-to article on surrogate EFT tapping for animals by Silvia Hartmann:
http://silviahartmann.com/animal-animal-eft.php
A whole website devoted to animal EFT: www.animal-eft.org
I found this chart of a dog and EFT tapping points if you want to try tapping directly on a dog (I probably would stick with surrogate tapping myself): www.irishwolfhounds.org/eft.htm

Cool link page to animal energy info:
http://theamt.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=51

I also found a canine chart with some meridian points at: www.wbvc.bc.ca/canine1.htm
This site also has charts of horses, etc. (a great resource)

Also try Bach Flower Remedies. A good one to have in the house for everyone (humans and animals) is Rescue Remedy (a blend of 5 flower remedies good for emergencies) but also look at Mimulus (for known fear, like thunder). Aspen is for unknown fears, anxieties:
Flower Remedies for Animals www.rainbowcrystal.com/bach/floweran.html

Music created specifically for dogs and healing:
Through a Dog's Ear: Using Sound to Improve the Health & Behavior of Your Canine Companion - Joshua Leeds & Susan Wagner, DVM, MS
Hardcover book, 176 pages, 1 starter music CD, 45 minutes

Animals respond beautifully to acupuncture. Especially dogs and horses.

Be aware your pup will pick up any ambivalence, worry, or fear from YOU. Our pets sense our emotions, no matter what you say or do. Remain calm and optimistic and full of faith on the way to, from, and at the acupuncturist. This will help your dog tremendously with the treatments.

I totally believe in communicating with our animal friends - whether you do it out loud or internally. Tell the animal why you are going to the acupuncturist, etc.

Years ago, I met an animal communicator at a holistic fair and the price was right so I tried it out. I was amazed at the info she got from my cat Zowie (without a picture no less) and he told her something I could do to make him less nervous upon leaving my apartment (I didn't tell her about the anxiety - after she told me some things, I asked her if there was anything I could do to make my cat happier). She told me to tell Zowie how long I was going for because there were times I left for a short errand and other times I left for days and he didn't know what was what (what to expect) - so every time I left was anxiety-bringing to him. She told me that even when I use human words, my mind creates a visual that the animal can interpret by time of day (darkness), intent, etc. Telling him really made a difference in his behavior!!!

I do the same thing with Kaluna (Zowie has since gone onto the other side) who does not like going to the vet. I tell her the truth - that I have to take her to get a health certificate so we can go on the airplane -- that we're going to Montana where she can go outside and play and that's the price we have to pay!

Well my Annie is on a diet and taking a course of 2 shots per week for 4 weeks its called Adequan canine and Previcox. This new vet is more into holistic and pain mgmt. My other vet said "oh well nothing I can do". She has hip displaysia in both hips and arthrituis in her bad knee. My goal is to hope that she will walk again she is not putting weight on her left leg at all and that she will be pain free. After this course of treatment then we will do acpuncture. She is only 8 (Aug 1) and she is my angel and Iam not ready or willing to give up on her anytime soon. It would just kill me. thanks for all the suggestions and articles. I will keep yu posted-Dale Sad
