I will complete my 18 weeks on obagi Nu derm soon. Was wondering what other products you use along with obagi when on maintenance. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Basically whatever products you like. You will be doing Nu-Derm 2 - 3 times a week so on the off days use what products you are familiar with and like.
I would recommend having the following
- vitamin c serum in the am (lots of info in the threads if you do a search)
- a good anti-aging cream (as above)
- most important of course con't use of high spf sunscreen |

The ZO Skin Health (Obagi's over-the-counter line) is great while on maintenance from Nu Derm. They are all quality products with a high percent of actives. And, the ZO sunscreen is the best I have used.
I definitely agree with Alley's recommendations, as well. |

Action is basically a moisturizer to help relieve the flaking and redness from the Nu-Derm products. I don't think it really has any other benefits. Riley do you know? |

That's pretty much my thought on it, as well, Alley. If you are wanting just a basic moisturizer, bee, I would just get something from the drugstore and save some money! |

Well,
I had bought action as part of the nu derm kit when I started and I have hardly used it. That's why I thought if I can use it now. But I undersatnd it is just a basic moisturizer so probably will not provide any value.Anyway, thanks again.

I see, bee. You just want to use it, as you already have it! I wouldn't think there would be anything wrong with that. I just did not want to see you spend money to buy it specifically for use on maintenance! |

Hi Ladies,
How are you? I'm new to the forum and Nu-Derm as well. I just purchased my first kit today. After reading a whole bunch of postings, I'm starting to freak out about the side affects of the products. I'm a marketing consultant and I travel a lot to see clients, so I'm usually on airplanes with stale re-circulated air that's dry. And to add insult to injury it sounds like I'm going to be shedding like a snake already This is so not good.
So I get that ZO is the "over the counter" less evasive version of Nu-Derm, if you wil, but are the results that you achieve with them similar? I know that Nu-Derm surpasses the epidermis layer and actually penetrates the dermis layer. Does anyone know if ZO can penetrate the dermis layer or does it just reach the epidermis like most over the counter lines?
Also, I noticed the big price differential between Nu-Derm and ZO, and I wonder if I'm missing something. Usually the more expensive line is the better one right? So is ZO really the better line or am I thinking about this the wrong way?
Has anyone tried the ZO exfoliating polish to help with the peeling? Or the Ommerse daily renewal creme to help with the dryness?
I may be a skin diva, but I certainly have a lot to learn and I'm hoping you ladies can help me out! Thanks so much! Cheers! |

Okay Ladies,
It's me again with yet another question - this post will be shorter, I promise. When I start to experience the flaking from the Nu-Derm system, and I have no doubt that I will since I already have dry to normal skin, which is better to help alleviate the problem: the Nu-Derm Action or ZO Ommerse Daily Renewal Creme?
Thanks |

The Nu Derm is for sun damaged, hyperpigmented skin. It is really best used under a derms supervision, though a lot of people use this on their own. It uses Retin A, AHA, and Hydroquinone to improve the health of your skin on a cellular level.
Obagi's newest line, ZO, is over the counter and uses more of the latest ingredients like peptides, growth factors, retinol, etc.
They are both great systems, but it depends on what your goals are for your skin. If you are after removing sun damage, eliminating hyperpigmentation, improving the health of your skin, then Nu Derm is your best bet. It really does transform your skin.
If you want a great product line to use for anti-aging using the newest ingredients (and prevention in younger people) ZO is your best bet.
ZO uses Retinol, which is no where near as strong as Retin A, but some people cannot handle Retin A, and have great luck using the ZO Radical Night Repair (which has a high % of Retinol as well as other anti-aging ingredients).
I use the ZO exfoliating polish and it does help tremendously with the flakes from Nu Derm.
The Daily Renewal Creme would be used like the Action product in Nu Derm. Only very sparingly, and only when absolutely necessary. This should not be used on a daily basis while on Nu Derm.
Another thing to think about is that ZO is a great line to use while on maintenance with Nu Derm. You would get the best of both worlds, then! |

Rileygirl,
Thanks so much ! Your reply was really thorough and greatly appreciated. So I using the Nu-Derm under the care of a Derm (actually a Plastic Surgeon, but was totally unaware of the ZO line when I signed up for Nu-Derm. It was only through this forum that I found out about ZO. So that's why I was really unclear. The Derm I'm seeing prides herself on not carrying lines that you would find in a medical spa, but carrying lines that have clinical and real results. So she offers SkinMedica and Obagi. I don't have hyperpigmentation or sun damage. I actually have really nice skin - I want to jump start and make it even better. I want to get as close to flawless skin as possible. Outside of that I want to maintain a very youthful look. So that's why I'm on Nu-Derm to improve my skin health to make it even more better and then I'll want to maintain it.
For my regimen: In the morning I use the gentle cleanser, the eye cream, a vitamin c complex by Skin Medica, the exfoderm, and the healthy skin protection spf 35. At night I use the gentle cleanser, the eye cream, the blender and rentin A.
Thanks for the advice on the ZO line - it does sound like the best of both worlds. I'm just wondering if you still get "tangible" maintenance & anti-aging results with ZO. But I guess since it's by the maker of Obagi the answer should be yes. Have you used the any of the other products in the ZO line that you think really work well and can recommend? So when you say maintenance from the Nu-Derm, are you still using the Nu-Derm cleanser, blender, and retin A, or do you discontinue all of the Nu-Derm products and switch over completely to the ZO. Or is there some kind of combination like the Nu-Derm cleanser and spf and then maybe some ZO products? |

Hi, SkinDiva. I used the Radical Night Repair, Growth Factor Serum, exfoliating cleanser, and sunscreen from the jumpstart kit for 2 months. Then I went back on Nu Derm (because I was bad and did not stay on maintenance, so my freckles came back!). I also used the eye cream and exfoliating polish. In the 2 months that I used ZO products my skin had a really nice, healthy glow and I got compliments from my co-workers, which honestly is a first for me!
The eye cream diminished some of my lines under my eyes, but did not totally eliminate them, nor did it touch my crows feet. (Just my personal note here and nothing scientific at all, but the eye cream caused my eyelashes to grow!). The exfoliating polish is great. Really gets rid of the flakes and leaves ones skin very soft. I did not use the Growth Factor Serum long enough for that to have any effect on wrinkles. The cleanser is nice, but there are others out there just as good in my opinion. The Radical Night Repair is a high % Retinol product with other anti-aging ingredients in it, but it is not as strong as Retin A and if you tolerate the Retin A, I would suggest sticking with that (or when on maintenance from Nu Derm, you could alternate between the Radical Night Repair and the Blender/RA). The Oclipse sunscreen is GREAT! Best sunscreen I have ever used.
So, now that I am on maintenance from Nu Derm, I am using the ZO products again. But I have just started adding them in 1 at a time, so too soon to give any more opinions on results.
On maintenance from Nu Derm, you pretty much use a cleanser (any of the Obagi cleansers, C, Nu Derm, or the ZO - does not matter, but the ZO and Obagi C cleansers do not require a toner), and then you use Exfoderm 2-3 times a week in the mornings, Clear 2-3 times a week in the mornings, and continue with Blender/Retin A anywhere from 2-5 nights a week (depends on what you need, how you are tolerating it, etc.). You can add in really any of the ZO products you want when you are on maintenance!
Let me know if you have any other questions. I am glad to help. |

Hi!Thanks for good info!
I just finished 18 weeks Nu-derm and I did Blue Peel 1 week ago.The doctor/derm recommended me to start with ZO Ommerse night+day after I am healed. But it is very expensive. And I have mix-skin (42 years old), and read that ZO is for dry skin.
I will do Blender+a-vit 2-3 days a week, but I need recommendation for a day/night cream!Maybe Dr Hauschka??? I like the natural/eco-line. |
