Hi hi! My husband and I are heading to Rio de Janeiro for a friend's wedding this week, and he's officiating so I'll have some down time to poke around and shop. Just curious if anyone from Brazil or who's lived there has any recommendations for specific beauty items that are hard to find in the US! Obrigada. Smile

I didn't find any spectacular Brazilian cosmetics when I was there a couple of years ago. But if you want to go shopping, I recommend the markets -- http://www.gringo-rio.com/markets-in-rio.html -- got some terrific original art at the Copacabana market.

Hi Everyone,

I am desperately searching for a hair and make up artist for my wedding. Has anyone used S.A.S.S.Y Hair and Make Up before? Would you recommend them?

I have tried searching on previous posts for make up artists for Asians. Unfortunately both Lisa Carter and Kate Fletcher are not available on my day.

At the rate I am going, I will have to change my wedding date!! First my dream photographer was not available. Now this!

Thanks.

Be sure to take the tour for the jewellery factory (there will most likely be a flyer under you hotel door). They pick you up in a limo, give you a very interesting tour showing how the gems are cut and set, and they will give you a low pressure showing of beautiful and (relatively) inexpensive jewellery. Still kicking myself for not buying more! Then the limo will deposit you wherever you wish to go. I went to the Botanical Gardens which is a little dilapidated, but has exceptional collections of orchids and bromiliads.

Brazil was just about as expensive as Canada, but I did think the jewellery at the factory was good - think it might have been Sterns - many gems are mined in Brazil.

Be sure you go to one of those meat restaurants where the waiters walk around with skewers of different meats which they slice off onto your plate - it is an experience. Most other restaurants charge by weight.

Oh have a good time - Rio is one of my favourite places, it is just so beautiful!

The original post request was from 2011 but I think you probably made some great recs for the newer travelers to Brazil. I'd love to go the markets....

And take a sunbrella! You will also meet a lot of Japanese tourists that way. Cooler than a hat.
