Well, since we have hair care, skin care, nail care, I thought I would just add eye care to the mix.
As we get older, our eyes may need extra care. So I was wondering who has great tips or advice for what to do to ensure healthy eyes?
I heard lutein is good. Is anyone taking this? How much to take? |

A friend recommended PreserVision by Bausch & Lomb. I just yesterday got some and started taking them so I can't comment yet. I'll give it a little while and then I'll post a review.
I've also been reading how important Fish Oil and Flaxseed Oil is for helping dry eyes. |

If you are looking for a healthy, natural eye care remedy; different types of advanced eye care creams are sold by pharmacies and health food shops, mostly containing healing properties of flowers and plants like Cucumber, Cucumber Water, Agrimony Leaves or Flowers Marigold Flowers. |

the one I have Narures Bounty
6mg. I per day 1 softgel daily preferably with a meal.
Lutein is a Carotenoid so I think just like Vitamin A it is fat soluable so you don't flush out the extra like with Vitamin C, you should not take extra as it may cause adverse effects.

that is the web site off my bottle, I would think they have more info about it.

Make a Smoothie with blueberries and vanilla yogurt every day and drink it. Or mix the blue berries to your muesli of whatever you eat at breakfast. Blueberries a the best berry you can eat, apart from the goji. Blueberries has substance that promotes the eye vision, and makes you see better in the dark. |

I think the question is more geared towards eye health as to eating the correct things and vitamins and supplements. Not that eye cream isn't great for the skin surrounding our eyes, but there is lots you can do to help eyesight and eye health.

PreserVision
PreserVision is a vitamin and mineral supplement that is used for treating age-related macular degeneration. While it cannot cure the condition, the medicine can slow the progression of macular degeneration and prevent it from worsening. PreserVision is available over the counter and comes in the form of tablets or soft gels. Possible side effects of PreserVision include fatigue, anemia, and upset stomach.

What Is PreserVision?
Ocuvite® PreserVision® is a non-prescription vitamin and mineral supplement used to slow the progression of age-related macular degeneration (also known as AMD or just macular degeneration). PreserVision is the supplement that was used in the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS). The AREDS study showed that this particular combination of vitamins and minerals helped preserve vision in people with macular degeneration.
(Click PreserVision Uses for more information on what PreserVision is used for, including possible off-label uses.)
Who Makes PreserVision?
PreserVision is made by Bausch & Lomb.
How Does PreserVision Work?
It is not known exactly how PreserVision works to slow the progression of macular degeneration. PreserVision contains antioxidant vitamins, which work by reducing oxidative damage. Oxidation is a normal chemical reaction in the body that produces free radicals. Free radicals cause damage, and antioxidants work by slowing or preventing oxidation (or by removing free radicals). It is thought that some of the damage to the eye due to macular degeneration is caused by oxidative damage, and PreserVision helps to slow that damage.
Copper is included in PreserVision in order to prevent copper-deficiency anemia, a side effect of high zinc dosages.

I agree if you are going to wear sunglasses, and you should, make certain they are good and block UVA/UVB as much as possible. Think of them as sunscreen for your eyes.

About Hyaluronic Acid
4. Vision
HA makes up 80% of the human eye - it is present in the vitreous humor of the eye and assists in vision. HA is a shock absorber to the retina thus helping to prevent trauma to the eye.
Looks like another supplement to help keep eyes strong and healthy.

I agree with the suggestion of sunglasses (there are many good protective ones for not much money on the market) although I frequently forget mine.
I also take fish oil pills and
take supplements including super zeaxanthin with lutein & meso-zeaxanthin which are supposed to aide against sun/age related degeneration - I think. I buy mine from Life Extension Foundation. Even if you don't buy from them, they have a nice website where you can read a lot about treatments & vitamins and supplements for different products. They are at lef.org |
