Does anyone have any experience with either of these?:
Olay Regenerist serum fragrance free (niacinamide + palmitoyl pentapeptide-3) with their micro-sculpting cream (niacinamide + palmitoyl pentapeptide-4).
Olay Definity line instead (niacinamide + acetyl glucosamine). Skin brightening + glycosaminoglycan stimulation + enhanced barrier repair.
Thanks, BF |

Hi BF; I currently use the Olay Regenerist serum fragrance free (niacinamide + palmitoyl pentapeptide-3)but not the cream from the Olay Regenerist line. Since I have only been using it for a couple of months, I can't really give you a proper product review, but I will make the following comments about the serum:
I like the fact that it has no fragrance added, yet it doesn't smell chemical either. I have not experienced any negatives with this product(pimples, blackheads, dryness, rashes, etc). It seems to be somewhat cosmetically elegant in the sense that it doesn't leave any residual feeling on my skin once it absorbs (which it does, rather quickly). It prepares the skin well for makeup (acts like a primer most likely due to the 'cones). It is difficult for me to comment on the lightening effect of the niacinimde because I also use a C product on alternating days ... it's hard for me to distinguish which product is actually fading my few freckles. I personally like the Matrixyl in this product; I know the science on peptide products is in it's infancy, but some skin care "experts" promote them (as Havana mentioned). Palmitoyl pentapeptide-3 (aka palmitoyl pentapeptide-4 aka Matrixyl) is one of the earlier and best known peptides. Overall, I would say the product is worth considering, and it's a rather inexpensive trial (ie 50ml for approximately $25). The only negative I can think of is the packaging ... too much exterior packaging/waste (wouldn't a simple box do?) and the bottle is functional rather than attractive ... if that sort of thing appeals to you. I used the Regenerist serum for about a month, but didn't see any improvement in my skin. It does feel really nice but it functioned more as a primer than anything else for me. Even as a primer I didn't notice any obvious improvement in my makeup.
The one Olay product I really love is their Definity Night cream. I actually did see increased brightness/evenness in my skin after only a week! Not only that, but it kept my skin moisturized in the cold/dry Vermont winters. I will definitely repurchase that if/when I can figure out how to fit it in with my new skincare routine. |

Hi BF,
I use Olay Daily Regenerating Serum; I really like how it glides on my skin. I also use the Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream. Do either of these do anything for my skin? Honestly, I use so many products, I can't say one way or the other which one is really working.
But there are people who comment on my skin and ask me what I use. When I tell them, I just stick to the products I used the night before. *l*
My routine varies with what I have on hand, what catches my fancy, and how I'm feeling that day/evening. |

I have used the daily serum but didn't notice any improvement. It felt nice on but that was about it and I used the entire bottle. |

I read somewhere that this cream was given the thumbs up because it was economical (compared to other brands) and its a lot more efficient. |

A relative of mine in her late 40s was being commented that she had no lines under her neck. She then admitted that she slathers the Total Range moisturiser on her neck. Must be working... |

Thanks for the feedback.
Does any one have any research data on these:
Agireline
Matrixyl
Dermaxyl
?
Basically, I am looking for peptides research data - but not copper peptides.
Tks, BF |

I personally not interested in their products. The retail prices are really low, but you know they put a lot of efforts on advertising and so on, which are all included in the prices. Therefore, I don't believe they have many efficient ingredients in their products. |

I am not sure there is a lot of independent research yet on peptides, but I found a few articles you can read as an introduction to peptides.

Lacy, when you are on the web page of something you would like to share, simply copy its web location from your address/navigation bar at the top of your browser window and then paste it into your post window. Voila!

I have wanted to add niacinamide to my routine, but the burning question I have is: are Olay and Nia24 the only options? Apparently, for niacinamide to be most effective the product needs to contain 4-5% of it. I think Olay is 2-3% and I don't know what Nia24 is. Does anyone know? Or know how to get 4-5% niacinamide? |

It's very easy to make your own Niacinamide serum. It's also supposed to be beneficial to pair it with Glucosamine. My recipe is:
VERSION B Oct 4/09
G & N Serum 1oz/30ml
5 tsp. Distilled water
3 ml Dimethyl Isosorbide(for penetration (10%)
½ tsp. Glucosamine (5%)
¼ tsp. Niacinamide (2.5%)
1 tsp. Glycerin
All of the above can be purchased from Bulkactives.
Product details
Solubility: water
Suggested percentage:4% to 5% (4% Glucosamine with 2% Niacinamide)
Storage: Cool, dry place. Do not freeze. Keep away from light and moisture!
Country of origin: India
Manufacturer's data: Niacinamide COA
The Olay products are always highly recommended by people in the beauty industry. I tried the Regenerist cream, but then I got worried it might be blocking my pores. My skin doesn't tolerate creams very well, so I mainly use serums and oils). |

thirtyish, NIA24 and Canyon Ranch products contain pro-NAD, a form of niacinamide that might be better absorbed into the skin than regular niacinamide, that is found in the Olay products. Both NIA24 and Canyon Ranch serums and creams contain 5 % pro-NAD.
Here is a thread discussing the difference between pro-NAD and niacinamide.
- Why pro-NAD is better than niacinamide

Does anyone familiar with Nia24 know if the intensive one is really that much superior to the strengthening one since they are both 5%? The intensive one is a lot more $, and what does it actually do over the strengthening one to warrant the cost? |

How long does the serum last?
I wonder if the cream one will last longer so I dont have to keep making batches |

Keliu, I've added a "version B" for the DIY index ( http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=11902 ) of this newer version of your recipe. Let me know if you would prefer it be listed differently. Thanks! |

I guess it lasts about 8 weeks or so. It's 30 ml and I would only use about 8 drops per day. It actually only takes a few minutes to mix up. I don't use creams on my face - but if you want to put the Niacinamide and Glucosamine into a cream base that would be fine.
Thanks Havana8 for updating my recipe (you really are soooooo efficient!! ) - I'm incorporating a penetration enhancer now. |

I've been using the Olay Regenerist fragrance free serum for about 15 years. Started using it in my early 20s on my whole face under make-up. Now since I discovered EDS and the world of other moisturizers, I use other products as a nightcream but always use the serum anywhere that wrinkles are known to appear because I honestly think I can thank Olay for the fact that I am in my late 30s and still have no wrinkles/lines to speak of. |
