Hi, I'm interested in trying out the lotion mask that appears in Saeki's book, yet I don't seem to have any lotion that is hydrating for this purpose. I have what we name, in Europe, "face tonic" for use after the "cleansing milk" to finish off the cleansing...
I live in Europe and I don't know what product could fit to be used in the lotion mask unless I spend a small fortune -for my budget, according to what the book recommends, so I was wondering if there is any DIY lotion for this...
Could simple distilled water and glycerin work for the lotion mask? Or a homemade oil in water solution work?
I haven't tried the lotion mask yet because of not knowing what lotion to use, and the ones recommended in the book are a bit expensive therefore my question. Any DIY lotion for this purpose out there?
TIA, A. |

I use a simple solution of either green tea + rose water, or green tea + kelp 'soup' (I rehydrate dried kelp in warm water overnight to produce a slightly filmy solution with sea minerals in it). Both are good although the thicker kelp version tends to work better.
Lotion is different to toner in that toner's function is to remove the traces of cleanser and close the pores. Lotion's function is to hydrate the skin through osmosis, something in which pore closing is not required.
Kelp is laden with sodium alginate (the gelatinous material that thickens the water) which has been used medically to assist in the healing of skin grafts. |

Hi NotMeNotYou, "I rehydrate dried kelp in warm water overnight to produce a slightly filmy solution with sea minerals in it",... what do you do with the result afterwards? Is it natural dried kelp or is it in 'pill form'? Do you 'fish' out the filmy solution and mix with something else or do you just use the solution of water and film all mixed up? How much water according to kelp amount, distilled, normal?
Sorry for so many questions, but it sounds very interesting !
TIA, A. |

I use the dried natural seaweeds stocked in asian food stores. Not the flat seaweed sheets (nori). I put a handful in a bowl cover with warm water and let sit overnight. Then just strain the liquid the next day and throw the seaweed away. |

Thank you! I shall try that! I like the idea of the kelp being full of nutrients, didn't have it clear if it was the actual algae in its dry form or if it was in pill form. I'll get started in trying it out for the Lotion Mask. |
